And sometimes not even talk.
So what's new this week down in Newport Harbor? Do you think that like, Chrissy still likes Clay? Do you think that Clay still likes Chrissy? How about Chase, is he still flirting with everyone and trying to prove that he is the biggest playa in the history of Orange County? And Mayor Grant, is he still the life of every party? Will Allie ever call Fatty out on kissing Chase right in front of her? OMG so many questions to squeeze into one little half hour episode. Join me to watch the drama unfold in this, our third episode of Newport Harbor.
We catch up with Chase and Taylor, participating in their only activity as a couple - sitting at the beach talking about being a couple - and Chase decides that he is tired of all of this "checking in" he's having to do with Taylor.
I guess the producers keep sending these two to the beach to talk about stuff and Chase would rather just get on with scamming on all the other girls.
He says that he's totally overwhelmed with the whole girlfriend thing and he just wants to chill out for a little bit.
This is h ilarious - as if having a girlfriend has stopped him from doing anything.
Nevertheless, he's sick of having the nagging thought of
Taylor in his mind, so they're going to take some time, have their fun, then see what's up.
Taylor just sits there going along with everything.
She is so lucky!

Great recap again.
Loved the "that ho's in big trouble now" screencap.
I loved Tweak's innocence. When Clay mocked his comment about laughing with Chrissy and he responded "You don't want to laugh with her?" the tone had me cracking up. I watched it twice.
Agree with you re: no action happening, only a lot of talking in/on moving transportation, and lots of missed/ignored phone calls.
Was it just me or did anyone else think there was no f-ing way that Chrissy's dad would have let Chase crash like that at his house?? I was surprised he wasn't blowing up her phone from upstairs just to see if they had kissed yet, like he was so concerned about with Clay. Maybe MTV did tape Chrissy and Chase "hooking up" but Chrissy's dad had the tape destroyed to "keep up appearances."
You are so funny HG

actually, as disappointing as it sounds, they have never shown hook ups on "the real OC". not even season 1, when kristen and stephen spent the night at the hotel after prom or whatever formal that was. so i really wouldn't expect them to do any differently with the newpsies. (yes, i just pulled a fake OC reference)

Yep, that was a pretty boring episode. Good recap though. Most of the kids on this show are pretty normal (although there is too much bleached out hair)...not particularly mean or a standout in any way. I think the only clearly conniving person is Grant. Chase just wants everything his way...he's just immature. He doesn't seem particularly clever.

Great recap!
I don't think that Spencer deserves the comparison to Chase. Spencer is a way bigger douche. Plus Chase gets points for being so smoking hot!

It's a shame more people aren't watching this show. The unwatchable shit pile that was LB3 probably scared a lot of viewers off for good. This show doesn't exactly replicate the magic of LB1 & 2 or anything, but it's decent as far as brainless MTV fare goes, and the recaps make it worth it watching.

You know what? Right now the most interesting people to me are Taylor and Allie. I completely understand what Chrissy was thinking when she hooked up with Chase: OF COURSE that'd make Clay even more attracted to her! Why didn't she think of that before???
I LOVED Taylor in this episode. I laughed out loud at Chase's reaction to her karma line. That douche got what he deserved. And I hope she and Grant really hit it off just to piss off Chase even more.
Anyway, awesome recap. I first discovered your recaps when I started to read your writings for The Bachelor, and they were so much better than the show that I started to search for everything Honey Gangsta! You're looking at a real fan here!

I agree with BonaFide- Chase is way hot and is just being a playa. Please DO NOT compare him to douchebag Spencer!
I think Clay is being a total baby about Chrissy kissing Chase- get over it and stop pouting!
My fave part of the episode is when Allie smiles after hearing Chrissy and Chase hooked up and was like "She can have Chase if I can have Clay.
1- Clay is okay with Allie hanging out with Chase but Chrissy can't?
2- Sorry, Fatty, that doesn't leave you with anyone!

Also, I think Allie called Chase a "sloot" (spelling?), not a "slew." I forgot where the term originated from but it's like a different way of saying slut, with a long uuuuuu. That is waht i thought when i watched the episode and it made more sense than this funner word "slew." that's bootylicious!!

Truthfully speaking, I am actually enjoying the show. Season 3 seemed way too contrived and unatural. All the cast of s3 was totally hamming it up for the cameras and all the drama seemed way too 'forced' (compared to other seasons). These kids seem 'normal' in that nothing is really happening and their lives aren't "ALL DRAMA" (kind of like how Kyndra/Cami tried to come off as)
however, anyone notice that in the last few episodes, the time frames are kinda off (bad editing?)
for example, in this episode, the exterior scene where chase arrives at chrissy's house it's dark out, but then when they're sitting inside it looks like it's still light-ish out??..and i can think of a few other examples i've noticed already...

Hi guys!
As always, thanks for your comments - they keep me giggling.
DP Hooker - I LOVE your sleuth work trying to decipher what "really" went down with Chase and Chrissy, then also coming up with the "sloot" hypothesis. Very plausible theories all around!
AGrinkov - you make my eyes misty. Thanks SO much for the love!
Sweetjane - You blew my mind. You're totally right, they never show hookups. They barely even show them on The Hills! There goes that to look forward to. :(
And finally, in my own humble defense (ha ha) I certainly don't think that Chase has reached Spencer status, he's just showing tendencies in that direction. BUT, I have to admit that you guys are totally right about him being better looking than Spencer by about 1000%. But then, who isn't?
More adventures tomorrow night!
Much Love,
HG :)

Thanks for the Felicity references...
I agree there were a lot of conversations in this episode, but the last few have had "parties" and other "events", so I will forgive it.
I am liking this season better than LB3, you can identify with Chrissy, and I like that the parents are in the show. It is very LB1, I think.
I hated Cami from LB3, even in LB2, you saw Cami look at the camera during the Prom episode two or three times, just to check and make sure they were "catching" her antics. It was pathetic.
