Whistler approaches Michael in the bathroom. No, not like that. He tries to apologize about the whole head-smashin' rock thing, but Michael doesn't want to talk about it. "What are we going to do next?" He asks, but before Michael can answer Sammy and his crew show up. Whistler admirably insults Sammy's mother and gets a punch to the face for it, but they drag Michael away anyway.

Sammy brings Michael up to the penthouse, ready to kill him at Lechero's command, but Lechero would like to handle this one himself. He gives Michael a nice speech about how liars can't be trusted even when they're telling the truth, but his life is on the line: "Are you trying to break out of this prison, Mr. Scofield?" "No," Michael mumbles, with absolutely no conviction whatsoever. He asks him again, but Michael just says they both know that's not possible. "Answer me!" he yells, and Michael asks what he wants him to say. "You just want a reason to kill me?" Lechero puts the knife to Michael's throat and says he has plenty good reason to kill him - because of Michael, he can no longer control the prison effectively. Michael's just scowling at him. He's kind of over this whole thing. He's had a REAL bad day. And okay, I think a lot of us have probably been expecting this, but that doesn't make it any less cool: Lechero says that justified or not, they no longer have faith in him, and there's only one thing he can do to guarantee his survival. "You ARE breaking out of this prison, Mr. Scofield. And you're taking me with you." Dun!

When this guy makes this face at you? You're probably going to want to do what he says.

Mahone, in his hotel room, paces and fidgets and joneses. Sullins and Lang come in with "good news and better news!" Lang winces at this. The good news is the Panamanians are going to cooperate. The better news is he gets to have a great night's sleep in this bed! Mahone is furious - this was supposed to already be over with, he's supposed to be on his way home. Sullins seems to be enjoying this, but he's also tired of Mahone's tantrum and just tells Lang to cuff him. To her credit, she doesn't want to, but she does. So hey, no heroin, but at least you have that nice bed, right?

Michael asks Bellick if he's seen Whistler. He hasn't, but he does have a monologue for us, and like everything else about Bellick this season, it's just really pathetic and sad. Essentially, he always thought he was doing good, keeping the bad guys in prison, but coming to a place like Sona, and hearing about what happened to Sara, he's wondering if there aren't more bad guys outside than there are inside.

We see Susan, saying she warned the guys what would happen if they failed, and if she gives them more time now, she might as well give them a condom and a cigarette to go with it. First of all, shut up, Susan. Secondly, time isn't even up yet, your timeline that you set up still has another day left. And thirdly, she's at the Sona fence, talking to FREAKING WHISTLER. We knew she'd sent him his bird book, but it seemed more like a threat than a friendly gesture. Here though, he's looking pretty damn suspect. She needs to know how this delay is going to affect things, and he tells her it won't be comfortable, but it's possible. She's not impressed. She wants his ass on a plane. At first I thought she said "plate" which actually would have been less scary. So what the hell is this chumminess here? "Four more days," he says. "If I'm out of here by then, I can still do it." Do what? Do what? She says she'll let the brothers know, and as she's leaving he calls after her: "Gretchen!" Cool! Also, immediate nickname: Retchin'. Anyway, he asks about Sofia, but Retchin' assures him she's fine. "Burrows is taking real good care of her," she smirks. And hey, guess who's been watching this little visit? Michael, who is as confused as I am.

The hell?

I will say exactly one word about the previews for next week: TATTOOS. It's the "Fall Finale," so depending on how this writers' strike pans out it might be our last one for quite awhile. The strike also might make this moot, but those of you in the Dallas area might want to check this out. Also, while I'm at it, please enjoy this shameless self-link. Those of you who made it all the way through this lengthy double feature, please discuss!

Firthguy:

Great recap.

It was probably better than the double-feature itself.

"Whistler approaches Michael in the bathroom. No, not like that." - Classic!

mamabird:

This is the first episode since season 1 (with the notable exception of S3 premiere) that I was literally on the edge of my seat with my heart in my throat. Watching the first season, every episode started with me on the couch and ended with me 2 feet from the TV alternately holding my breath and screaming at the TV. What a great buildup to last nights fall finale.

And although Michael got his "moment" aka Skid Row Power Ballad Emoting; Wade Williams was totally MVP this week. I am embarrased to admit that I actually teared up when he said I can't even kill myself; which was compounded by my memory of the scene in which he did not, in fact, kill himself. So utterly fantastic.

Now about that Skid Row Power Ballad Emoting; OMG I swear you are in my head Loula. That is EXACTLY what I thought when I was watching (er, wincing)....Which is so weird b/c Sebastian Bach was one of my first crazy famous person crush. Could have been so much better. But the genuis Chicken Foot Throwdown move afterwards made me forgive them.

And Whistler and Snoozin/Rethcin...WTF is that? Can't wait to see what happens and where they are taking Michael.....Again, they better not kill him!

Oh and how awesome was that helicopter scene? Terrible editing and somehow I found it rather hysterical. But it was pretty ballsy move....

Thanks for doing it all in one shot. Know it must have taken much longer but you did it! So, till next week.

blahblah:

"Turns out what he found in the yard was a cigar butt - Antonio, his man on the outside, used to give them to him as tribute and now he reeks of them. Ponytail guy looks up at Sammy, who gave him the cigars in the first place, but Sammy fails to leap to his defense. I don't really get what the problem was, but the end result is that Lechero has a body to string up and Whistler goes free."

Ponytail guy looked up at Sammy because Sammy gave Ponytail guy the cigars - meaning, Sammy probably killed Tyge (he has a name?).
