This week on Prison Break: Season Finale! Linc is exonerated! Bellick finds himself on the receiving end of some seriously nasty acts of violence! Kellerman saves Sara! Then Michael, Sara, Linc, LJ and Kellerman all sail off into the tropical sunset on a boatful of booze with Westmoreland's cash and all live happily ever after. Oh, and Michael and Sara totally get their own room.
Okay, so only some of that is actually true. The stuff that actually did happen was alternately awesome, heartbreaking, weird, confusing, and awesome again. Which is exactly what we've come to expect from Prison Break. They left us a lot to chew on, so let's get to it, shall we?
I wanted this to be a reasonable length, I really did, but it's a season finale, and a really crazy one at that. I'll try to leave most of the speculation for the boards and the comments section, but it's really, really hard, because holy crap.
2.22 "Sona." We pick up right where we left off, with Mahone telling Michael he wants the boat and the money. Michael thinks. The thinking includes some flashbacks to remind us of all the crap Michael's taken on Linc's behalf, and it's probably just this one scene, and the grey sweatsuit, but I don't remember Season 1 Linc looking quite so much like the love child of Steve Carell and Hanz and/or Franz. As Michael and his flashbacks pace around the deck of the Christina Rose, a kid walks up with a crate full of goodies. Spliff? Magic mushrooms? Whatever Michael wants, he can get it. "Magic mystery tour, right in this box!" Michael shoos the kid away.
As promised, Mahone calls back after five minutes. "So. You gonna do the right thing?" "And you'll just let my brother go? Like you let Tweener go? And Abruzzi? And Haywire?" Mahone says things are different now, and hey, they both know what the other is capable of! No games, just a couple of guys doing each other a favor. Michael finally agrees, but it's going to take him at least 24 hours to get to the dock where Mahone is holding Linc. The old Mahone would have called bullshit on that right there, but this Mahone is delirious and desperate. He even does an actual "Yes! Booyah!" type gesture. Linc fails to ask how the hell he's supposed to pee chained up to this pipe for 24 hours. Mahone dials his phone and leaves a chipper voicemail: "Mr. Kim? This is Alex Mahone. Call me."
We're back in the courtroom now as Kellerman takes the stand. "What I'm about to divulge to you will in all likelihood get me killed," he begins, but as usual, he just seems kind of idly amused by the whole thing. He's just, he's so awesome. I can't even tell you how perfectly Paul Adelstein just sits up there, breaking the whole elaborate conspiracy down bit by bit in that delightfully matter-of-fact, smug, smirky delivery we all know and love. It was supposed to be about country, and loyalty, he says, about what's right. Sara rolls her eyes. "But it wasn't," he says, "because I wronged people who shouldn't have been wronged." On the orders of then-VP Sweet Caroline Reynolds, he planted evidence, procured a body, lured Linc in to the parking garage. "From the ground up, we framed him," he says simply.
The Feisty Black Female Prosecutor's like, oh right, this shadowy cabal, big conspiracy, blah blah, what does this have to do with Sara jumping bail and aiding fugitives? Kellerman is quick to interrupt: "She did so because she feared for her life, which was appropriate, as I had orders to kill her." There is murmuring and gavel pounding as everyone tries to figure out what the hell they're supposed to do with this information.
Meanwhile, Michael continues to pace. He spots the kid from before. "Hey! You still in the magic business?" "¡Siempre!" he grins, and introduces himself as Chaco. Chaco's pretty damn charming. Can we keep him? They're going to need a cabin boy!

I don’t even want to admit how many times I have visited TVGasm since Tuesday morning in anticipation of this recap. And can I also just say that I watched most of this episode crouched on my couch with my hand over my mouth; I was freaking out. OK, enough with the confessions.
I’m glad they left the Sucre storyline where they did – now they can choose whether or not to pursue it next year. Also, does this mean C-Note really had a Happy Ending? Yippee! One good thing did happen this year!
You’re dead-on about Kellerman’s Final Scene being freaking PERFECT! It really does work either way: a fitting end, or a way to allow him to return (and I really hope he does).
I’m looking forward to next year – I hope they go the Mahone-Michael-teaming-up route, because that could be awesome! Maybe we’ll get some more nice Mahone hand-to-hand combat!
Is it August yet? Hope to see you back here then!!

I'm just halfway through your recap and wanted to say that I love how lovingly you write about Kellerman. Both the scenes in the courtroom and in the van gave me chills.
This show gets a lot of crap for the leaps of faith you have to make but there is such fine acting and some incredibly beautiful moments. I actaully find my jaw clenching watching T-Bag chewing up his scenes, get the willies whenever Balick is doing anything, and my heart breaks for someone at least once an episode...this episode it happened a few times.
Kellerman, you beautiful man...if you're really gone R.I.P.

Uh, yeah, that was me talking just now. In case you didn't figure that out. As you were!

Believe me, Loula, I understand why it took “so long” (2 whole days! Egads!) for you to post the recap. I’m still dissecting the show in my head 3 days later. I was just eagerly anticipating the awesomeness of it. Maybe you can post a Director's Cut of the recap during our 4-month PB drought.
Punkrox – you’re right, she does write so lovingly of Kellerman! It’s great that there are other Kellerman Lovers here. We know who the real star of the show is.
I’ve never watched GA either, but with this spinoff, I’ll probably DVR it and just watch the Paul Adelstein scenes.
See y’all back here in the Fall!

Awesome freaking recap Loula!
I HEART KELLERMAN...although I am in the fortunate postion of also being a Grey's fan so I will be watching the spinoff and figure either way I got a win/win thing going here - YAY JINGER!!
That Sona place is the scariest place ever, my emotions were all over the place. This was a rockstar finale fo shizzle!
Thankfully this is on of the shows that start up a little earlier so the new season will be here before we know it!

Thanks layla and Jinger! And yeah, speaking of rock stars, how cool is that screencap, with Michael standing in front of those grafitti wings with the two thugs behind him? It looks like an album cover. That whole sequence was shot beautifully.
And I was consoling myself the same way, reminding myself that the season starts earlier than everything else. But then I remember it also ended earlier than everything else. Dammit.

Oooooo... you are so right about that screencap. Didn't even pay attention to it.
Gotta save that one for the archives...

ya i am totally looking forward to the mahone-micheal teaming up to escape thing - i didn't know where they were going to end the season, but i got to say that i loved the full-circle back in jail thing - very cool
- and i don't know if this was mentioned, but not only is kellerman joining the Grey's spinoff but they initially thought of him for dr.burke, the character now played by isaiah wachington - think how much less friction on the Grey's set that would be.

Loula - thanks for the recaps this season. you totally better be back next season. before you i was a huge sg_dub fan and when he left I thought all hope was lost for the prison break recaps, but you rock them.
awesome episode.
sad that michael and sarah couldn't get it on at least a little before secret asian man showed up. guess they won't be writing sarah wayne callies pregnancy into the script.
I wonder if t-bag will show up in SONA also? maybe they'll capture sucre too and it will be like the whole gang back together again.
btw the whole "it's in his blood" thing makes me kind of nervous - I hope they don't do any of that hokey stuff they used to do on alias having to do with destiny and prophecies and crap, even if the screencap of michael as an angel was awesome.
next season is too far away!

That was Bellick sniveling on the floor in SONA? I totally missed that.
I used to love Sucre but now he's just annoying me. Why wouldn't he at least try to call his aunt's house just on the off chance that Bellick was lying to him about capturing Maricruz (which he probably was)? What did Bellick say again? snuffleupagus something?
13 of 16 | Posted by fycin | Posted on April 6, 2007 9:12 AM
fycin, I checked the "official" Fox recap to make 100% sure, and yes, that heap on the floor was definitely Bellick. Which means that Sucre has some incentive to break these guys out of Sona, along with Linc and Sara.
Re: Sucre, I have fanwanked that since they live in the middle of nowhere Auntie Sucre doesn't have a phone, or else it doesn't make any sense. Also, he's never once even asked about Auntie Sucre! And it took me forever to realize that Bellick's "snuffleupagus" comment was a reference to the alpacas. He didn't tell Sucre he had Maricruz until after he knew about the money, which makes me even more suspcious that he's full of shit.
Either way, not telling bloody dying Sucre in the street was pretty unforgivable. And it looks like karma's taking care of that.
T-Bag not only knows about the Company, he screwed up their cool plan. So my guess is he will end up at Sona. He kind of belongs there at this point. It would be fun to see old-school prison T-Bag, and as much as I love RK he better stay put this time.
citychick416, I really think we're safe from any scifi crap. I think the "in his blood" comment means we'll get some backstory on who Aldo was and what he did to piss these guys off so much. I hope he was an escape artist or something, and if they can bring it full circle and tie him to Westmoreland (whose money, btw, is presumably still sitting at the bottom of the canal) I will marry this show.
Thanks so much - it's hard stepping in to other people's shoes, but it's really fun so I hope to be back!

Bravo! well done, it could't have been any better. I also believe that Agent Kellerman was the true genius of this show, and sad to see him gone. I am completely stumped by this whole SONA thing, and wondering what exactly is in Michael's past? Alos, why do he and Lincoln have different last names if they are brothers? So many questions, so little time...

I know I'm soo late, but I just got back from overseas and I just now finished the second seasonn...and I wanted to shoot myself at the end..what's going to happen to my husbandddd?!?!
I think Kellerman is dead, and if he is...*salutes kellerman* He was the second most badass character on the whole damn show.
And as much as I hate Bellick, it kind of broke my heart to see him crying and shaking on the floor like that...even if he did kill Marilyn. And was just generally an assfuck about everything.
Andd...Loula, I really hope that they leave you on recap duty for this upcoming season, because your recaps are definitely the best Prison Break recaps I have ever read. They're thorough, yet provide speculation and enough snark to keep me giggling.
And you actually seem to like the show which is a huge plus. Keep up the great work!
I CAN'T WAIT TILL FALLLLLLL
