I have been reading on these here internets that some of you are disappointed so far with this season of Project Runway, and I guess I can kinda see your points. No, there really aren't any standout stars so far, yes, many of these people seem like they were chosen because they're freaks of nature instead of above average designers, and yes, the fact that not one of these contestants could pull together a decent ensemble for the first menswear challenge ever is just WEAK, but come on guys. It's Project Runway. Where else are you going to get an episode that opens with a creepily psycho insecure queen nakedly stalking the most likely to succeed from behind a shower curtain?
I'll get you, my pretty!
Speaking of insecure, Kit Pistol tries to convince Sweet P that she still deserves to be in the running. Sure, she didn't come close to finishing the last challenge, but her intentions were good. Carmen's intentions were just...well, ugly. Sweet P, the woman who invented the six foot long tie, tries to buy this load a horse pucky and decides to concentrate on the positive. "Better her than me." Agreed.
I like Sweet P so I feel nervous for her, but I feel really bad for Kit Pistol, who hasn't realized that there are tiny little cameras in each or the four corners of the ceiling. She's going to be mortified that she's been filming a mini-series this whole time didn't even realize it.
Roots
Always ready first, Chris and Rami bs in the living room and decide that Project Runway should have a fragrance. Rami says it will be made of tears, sweat, and before I can say testosterone, Chris chimes in with "Chinese food". Eh. I liked mine better. The straight guy stays as far away from all of this as he can and shows off his new tattoo.
Dramatic music pumps through the studio as Heidi comes out and mischievously leads the designers through the model firing. YAY! I'm rooting for Yentl to win this thing, otherwise I don't care.
Go Yentl!
Since God decided to hand Jack a miracle win last week in the Challenge That Shall Never Be Spoken Of Again, he gets to decide if he wants to keep his model or swap, and he decides to swap. I would say that he didn't mean it to be bitchy, but he sucked in his cheeks and turned up his chin and really intensified his lisp when he answered, so I think that he probably did. He apologizes to Ricky and then steals his model. The girl kind of resembles Eliza Dushku back in the Buffy days, so I don't really blame him. Ricky doesn't either. He's totally mature and gracious and congratulates Jack on having such a good eye. Just kidding! He's hellapissed.
Heidi tells the designers that Tim is waiting upstairs with a woman and some old friends of hers. Sweet P says she immediately thought this was gonna be a senior citizen challenge. LOL, Sweet P. Glad you're still around. Unfortunately, she was off about ten years. It's Nina! And she's smiling! Am I the only one with terror running through my veins?
Her old friends are pics from Elle Photo Shoots Past, and the challenge is to pick a style and make it work for today's woman. And to buy Nina's new book, The Little Black Book of Style, which is struggling to get off the dollar rack at Barnes and Noble. Sweet P is chosen last again, and she's starting to think that she's cursed. Aw! Don't think like that. The world isn't against you, hon. Wait. You got the sweater dress? The universe hates your ass. Sad horns.
Jack chooses first, and he goes with pleather, or as he calls it, "Britney Spears On Crack". Christian picks the Zoot Suit, and finding a look she knows well is crazy face Elisa, who chooses the skin tight spandex one piece with cutouts. It truly is amazing that even on a challenge where they're given completely crazy outdated looks, some of these designers are finding ways to do the same old thing. By the way, just wanted to point out that Chris is looking all hair gel-ed and solid printed today. Who does he have a crush on?
Don't sleep on your stomach, straight guy.

flipit, darling, I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of the judges' decision. i screamed in agony at my tv when they said that miss waterworks got to stay. Chris was by far the funniest character, i adored him! I agree, too, that they seems like a lot of mediocre talent that happen to be interesting characters. But even still, there's nothing really special there, either. sigh, i miss past seasons. i could really go for some vintage early episodes of season 1. kisses.

This season is making me miss Jeffery. Yup, I said it, at least he was snarky and funny and made me laugh (especially when he was quacking like Angela). I couldn't believe they sent Chris home, at least his garment was finished and had the shoulder pads and I actually liked it. Ricky couldn't lead, his garment was not finished and I hate him anyway....

Okay -- Jack is dating Baldhawk. WTF?!?!?! I would post the link but I can't. It's on the outzone tv blog via the Bravo website. EW EW EW EW EW!
Anyway....can't believe Chris is gone and not Ricky. I really liked Chris a lot. I mean, what can anyone do with shoulder pads? NOTHING. Jillian really annoys me for some reason, and Victorya? I was kind of on Ricky's side, as annoyingly weepy as he is. She was being totally passive-aggressive. If you wanted to the team leader, you should have said so, bitch!
But really, Ricky needs to go next week. And for some reason, I still love Christian.

Flipit, that's not LILO's fault, I think you may need a dietary intervention.
And, *sniffle* I weep, I curse the heavens for the early loss of Chris. After being auffed, I really wish they would have made him Tim's assistant, or something. Wouldn't you like to see Chris making the rounds, making snarky comments on the others' garments? Sure, you would. But alas, he's gone. *sniffle*
Victory-a was getting on my every last nerve-y-a. I was even kind of taking Ricky's side in the whole thing (no, really!), although she's clearly a better designer (& I expected him to GO). Elisa, I LOVE, Flipit.. so back off!! (:)) who cares if she can't sew? or measure? or mark (other than w/ spit?) She's a little wood sprite that has wandered onto our TV screens.
... until next week. I totally miss Santino's Tim Gunn impressions (but nothing will make me miss Jeffrey>..)

Flipit, you are brilliant!
this is the first season that i have watched so i'm not familiar with the way it works, but Ricky kinda sucks. kinda a lot. i mean he made a really cute red dress 2 weeks ago, but i don't understand why he is still there.
i liked Chris. he was funny, and snarky, and i thought his dress was really cute--his jacket was interesting, which is more than i can say for Ricky's fug dress. i don't get it.
Victorya was being quite bitchy, but i can't say that i blame her--Ricky was being a whiny little brat. they were both wrong, but since he sucks i didn't mind her bitchy. maybe he'll go home next week. i don't spoil, so i don't know what is going on with Jack, but i still like him, so i hope it isn't too bad.

I don't really understand all the Chris love, but maybe that's what I get for being up to my tits in gays- I can't appreciate a dine-a-dozen Flubber for the sweet snark that he is.
I'm one more bad episode away from being over this show. Was Sarah Jessica Parker the "Jump the Shark" moment? The insistently rushed summer season last year? Who can say. It deserves a Haiku cycle though.
On a less reflective note I bought Nina's book as a gag birthday gift for a friend. I skimmed it- there was a tirade against the fasion it bag, but over all it was a little too in good taste with lame illustrations of girls in that sketchy style that might look like they should belong as the applique on a free with your 20 dollar cosmetic purchase at Kohl's which I found sort of offensive as an illustrator. It's 3 weeks later and she still hasn't read it. Sadness.
AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This guy has had unfinished crap work two weeks in a row and his team sucked the hardest BY FAR, but in the end, I guess he's way more of an asshole, making a better "character". I am glad I have a full week to calm down, because I am not pleased. Can you tell? I hate you, Judges! I hate you Witchiepoo Karan! And you can take that shit book of yours and shove it up your cornhole, horse face Garcia! Flipit out.
You didn't get rather emotionally attached to this weeks episode did you friend?
I see the problem with these designers is that quiet a few of them have come from the Parsons school of Design, Paris, LA and NY City.... you don't think they will be getting rid of them DO YOU???? And if we want to get right down to who makes American fashions it is the one armed gimp in India running an antique Singer with a foot pedal pump....... seriously.
I know everything from my underwear and bra to my Christmas duds are fashioned and made in a country that wonders what the hell we do in this country every freaking day of our lives.. and why He has to sew the fashions. we do it in for 20 cents a day.... I say bring on the burkas people... now redesign that and you will impress me.

LOVE it Flipit!!!!
How wrong, wrong, wrong are they!!!! Victory-a's dress was HIDEOUS!!!!! AWFUL!!!! SO UGLY!!!! and hat boys was a fugly mess--how can they be this far off the mark. so what if Chris is on the flambouyant side . . . at least it's interesting and fun, and well constructed!!! IT's NOT BORING!!!!! Bitches . . . isn't that what they're always afraid of, being bored . . . . HARUMMMPHHH!!!!!
Chris wasn't a good leader, but I also liked Sweet P's dress . . . Stephens was also a mess, and so simple--ban leggings, I say--If they had a shirt version of leggings would Carmen still be in, no, but you see my point! I only wish Chris had used a better fabric, as much as I love upolstery . . .
Wish I wasn't so underwhelmed, but I do love Elisa . . . go wood sprite!!!!

What bummed me out the most is I was actually looking forward to seeing what Chris could do - whereas - I don't feel that way about anyone else (well maybe Christian, but for totally different reasons)
Thanks for the brilliant recap, Flipit, your frustration at the end was like you were reading my mind...oh well...Heidi has lost major points in my book - Heidi if you are reading this (and my guess is you are) you screwed this one up BIG TIME! You shouldn't let larger, scarier women (Nina, DKNY, Michael) intimidate you. You know that Ricky's cryin, lingerie-making, beret-wearing, sending- shit-down-the-runway ass should've been thrown in an envelope and mailed back to whatever sweatshop he came from!!
Whew - I feel better now!
I guess my new favorite will be...Daniel Vosovic..whatever, a girl can dream...

Everyone keeps saying how Victorya is to talented. I just don't see it. She is a decent seamstress, but here fashion sense is really limited. I don't like Ricky, but I too was rooting for him over her. That being said, he should have totally been kicked auf instead of Chris.

Where's andre'...gawd, Season two was the best...
I hated this challenge...Ricky is a lingerie designer and THAT is what he comes up with...yuck-o.
My fav is Christian, he would just be such a funny person to keep around for awhile, anyway?!

There's almost nothing to like about this season, but I have to say this.. it amused me no end to see that cow Nina Garcia pooh-pooh the old fashion -- the unhip, the dreadful fads -- using shots taken from the pages of her own magazine. She wants us to believe it's ironic and underhandedly hip. I say it's simply a matter of cornering your market from as many angles as possible, in the most cynical way.
I mean, really, these people package and sell the public questionable fashion as a rule; then turn the more faddish around and pretend 'they never said that' -- ignoring what didn't work so well and calling it 'so last year.' FF another decade and we're back in business with the same old crap, calling it this time, "retro."
Yes, every contestant miserably failed this challenge. But the producers or whoever failed in the design of this challenge altogether.
As always, a brilliant job by Flipit.
