It’s been a fun season for Project Runway. From Dirty Diana on the dance floor to Kara avoiding “Daingah in her dress to Andrae’s endlessly funny gay expressions...so many memories. Now we are finally coming to the end. That’s right, this week was the penultimate episode. The last runway elimination before we get our final three for New York’s Olympus Fashion Week. After Nick's surprise departure last week we are left with the horrifying reality that at least one, and possibly two people who are the least talented of the entire group will make it through to the final three. Those two are Santino, a one note designer who makes everything look like Muppet puke, and Kara, whose ideas are so dull and uninspired that the only real talent she has is mangling the English language. Who will be the one to squeak through? I suppose if I had to choose it would be Santino, because he does have some talent, and not just for doing Tim Gunn impressions.
With this being the last official runway competition, the challenge was a bit of a surprise. Instead of just another random challenge that would test their “creativity, “ingenuity or “gayitivity, it was something that actually tied in directly with their final presentation at Fashion Week. Oh yeah, they also drag out another aging supermodel and treat her like she cured a fatal disease. And we all know the only supermodel to ever cure a disease was when Elle McPherson discovered a vaccine for tyrosinemia in 1996.
First, I feel it important to share this with all you Heidi Klum fans out there. Make sure you pick up this week's Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue where she does an entire photo shoot with nothing but body paint on. Which is just more evidence that every woman should get back down to 2% body fat within a few months of giving birth. If Heidi can do it, anyone can. Or should I say, if Heidi taking two months off and working with a team of highly paid fitness trainers can do it, you can do it.
We start as always with the fallout from the previous person's eviction, or firing, or “not fitting in or whatever they call the person who gets booted. The “auf Wiedersehened? Anyways, Santino is no longer well liked among any of the remaining contestants for his overly competitive nature and insulting comments. Daniel is particularly upset that he lost his boy Nick and blames a lot of it on Santino. To try and turn even the viewers against Santino we then get to see a shot if Santino waking up in his tighty whities and talking about how he feels “pumped up. That’s an image that will linger.

No need. Simply no need.
They are brought in front of Heidi and she tells them that this week's design will be an evening gown. But the twist is that their evening gown must represent their collection for Olympus Fashion Week. Oooh! Pressure is on. But before we start with the new challenge we have to get rid of another model. Will it be Nick's model, the Gumby-legged marshmallowy looking Rachel, or my red headed wild child and the future Ex Mrs. Hill, Grace? Yeah it’s not much of a contest; Grace stays, and my heart soars. At least Chloe didn’t use some Danielesque “you’re not losing, you’re moving into bigger and brighter things excuse. She just says “I’m sticking with Grace, and Staypuft is sent packing.
Back in the workroom Tim comes in and has them all gather around, as he has something to tell them. Olympus Fashion Week is organized by a company called “Seventh on Sixth. Fern Mallis is the executive director, and they are going on a brief field trip to talk to her. “Field trip on this show has come to simply mean “awkward product placement. Kara for one is amazed that they get to meet someone who has so much “powah in the fashion industry. When they pick Fern's brain for ideas Daniel asks about any beginner mistakes that they can avoid. Fern says that she can’t ever underestimate being nice, at which point Daniel turns around and glares at Santino. He totally just learned his lesson. I mean, a good glaring is just the best comeback ever.

Kara should of been gone ages ago. Santino still sucks, and looks like bad chinese food. Him in his underpants was disgusting. All of these gowns sucked.
I think Daniel will win.

No one cares about Iman? Girl is married to David Mother Humping Bowie!!! That's all the reason I need to care about her.
At any rate...
I thought Kara's dress was quite lovely. Chloe's, I wouldn't be caught dead in. Daniel, yawn. Santino, pretty freakin' ugly. Oh and thanks for that screencap that looks like Santino's home porn intro.

Hilarious recap. Or maybe I just have the dirty mind of a preteen boy. Anyway, I always thought those people who commented things like "I spit my coffee out all over the keyboard!!!" were overexaggerating and lame. But this sentence, "If Michael Kors talks about Daniel’s puckering slit I will have died and gone to heaven" sent my container of fries tumbling from my knees to the floor.
I'm so glad Kara is gone. I still cannot get over that black tube dress with a piece of caution tape stuck on it.
I think the reason everyone said Chloe should go is that she admitted she didn't know if she wanted to win. I know it would piss me off if someone I was competing against said something like that.
Overall, this season's designers are so much less inventive. I feel like there was way more color used last season and I really felt like I had an idea of each designer's sense of style. This season I have no idea what Daniel is going to do and I'm kind of worried it's going to be boring. His gown looked like a prom dress.

Santino's clothes seem to start off with great potential, then he goes all Tana on them with the bedazzler.
I'm excited for the finale!
Great recap EdHill!

First time commenter...
I think the "poochy" is actually supposed to be Pucci. He's a designer known for the swirly prints in his fabrics.

I really hope Santino wins just so I can laugh at all you haters. He is the only one who is original and I truly think he has talent. I picked him from day one and I stand by my choice. Did anyone see him on Regis and Kelly? I TiVo'd it...pretty funny...

EdHill...you're the best. The entire recap was awesome but to have it end with "poochy" was just so unintentionally funny and priceless.
I actually think Santino will rock at Fashion Week. Don't get me wrong, I don't like him (of course he wears dingy tighty whiteys...of course he does!) but give his creativity that kind of time and I think he'll do really well. Daniel is definitely still the man to beat, though.

Now I want to be a designer and call myself Poochy. I wonder if Pucci could sue. If so, I'd change my name to Goochy.
I disagree with the slagging of Iman. Besides being married to Bowie, she's still gorgeous and has that amazing, creamy voice. Plus, I like hot old chicks, since I hope to be one some day.
And for your fashion education, EdHill, the other mangled name (from Nina) was Carolina Herrera.

Edhill - der Rausgeschmisse = "the one who was kicked out". Der Gefeuerte = "the one who was fired". Der Verabgeschiedene = "the one who said good-bye". Take your pick. Pfiat di!

Chloe definitely set herself up by saying she wasn't sure if she even wanted to win. That gave them all an easy out when asked who should be eliminated--Daniel and Kara don't really think Chloe is a worse designer than Santino, but they probably suspected Santino was going to make the top 3 and didn't want to have a confrontation with him later. So they picked Chloe, knowing that they could justify it later by saying, "But you said you weren't even sure you wanted it, that's why I singled you out to leave."

Kara acted shocked that they'd have to do evening wear. What kind of show about runway design would not include evening wear? dresses made out of plants, surprise. Dresses made out of satin, not a surprise.
Santino's dress looked like that one Scarlett O'Hara made out of her curtains in gone with the wind.

jenny10girl- yes, santino is original. but sometimes original doesn't translate into being very good. santino needs to learn to stop adding layer after layer of fabric on his clothes. he just innundates every potentially good piece he has with ostentatious garbage like ruffles, jewels, etc. if he stopped 2 hours earlier with this dress, it would have been great.

anonym. - with a bit of coaching (for lack of a better word) I bet he would be great...I must admit I took a peek at the runway show pictures and I really think Santino did a great job...I would wear quite a few on his pieces...but I guess you will have to decide for yourself...

"Austin is flitting about like Tinkerbell talking about how he loves being thin but wants to be rich"
Hehe...I had a recapgasm when I read that. Especially since I adored Austin and all his fluff and flounces last season. I think he could design circles around Santino - shame HE didn't make the final three in his season. Seems they always have to have that ONE controversial finalist for everyone to root against. Talent be damned.

I thought Santino's dress looked like something from an 80's nighttime soap opera like Dallas or Dynasty. The only thing that was missing was the huge shoulder pads. It's really too bad Nick didn't make it to this week's challenge because I would have loved to see what he came up with.
I know Kara and Daniel felt betrayed by Chloe saying that she didn't know if she really wanted to go to the final 3, but I still don't think that was any excuse for them to stab her in the back and say that she should be the one sent home. Daniel especially talked a lot of smack about Santino, and when it came time to do something about it, Daniel copped out. Kara just went along to get along I think, plus she knew it would probably boil down to herself and one other person. I don't blame Chloe for feeling betrayed, especially when she made a legitimate point as to who should go (Santino's lack of sewing skills)and everyone else's reasons were either retaliatory (Santino) or flimsy (Daniel) or baseless (Kara). But at least their comments didn't prevent Chloe from reaching the final 3, which is as it should be.
I loved Iman's comment about Daniel's dress when she said that the dress was boring but that she wasn't, so it would all work out.

jenny10girl- with coaching, santino would be good..but unfortunately, to be in this competition, you should know how to sew..it's Project Runway, not "dress up your Wal-Mart vest with pieces of flare" (yeah, took that from office space)
sorry if i sound so biased--i'm a nick lover, so that may weigh pretty heavily on my criticisms of santino..i just think nick is a far better designer

about the whole "wearable" description -- I thought the point of a runway show was to treat each completed outfit as a sort of work of art, and it's not really supposed to be wearable. Then elements of the garments created for the runway show are taken and put into the actual clothes you buy at the store, which are wearable. Am I wrong? I don't think their runway shows should be "wearable."

I wish Santino would get his fingers caught in the overlocking machine so that Nick could come back! At least Kara is gone and we no longer need to live in fear of what she may "design" next. PS to the writer-hidden poochy is actually Pucci-the designer

I haven't liked Santino since around the second episode of this season. Having said that, I have to agree with "jenny10girl" in that I took a peek at the NY Fashion Week pics and he actually designed some nice things. Odd that NONE of it hass all the added crap that he's been doing all season.
I'm still pulling for Daniel, though. And I still wish Nick would've made it over Santino and/or Kara.

Does anyone remember Poochie the pink-stamping dog from the 80's? I broke Lauren's in my ballet class and she threatened to call my mother. I laughed and told her she didn't know my last name and COULDN'T call my mother...That is until Lauren laughed wickedly and reminded me that I was in ANNIE that summer and she could look up my name in the program.

fycin- i don't know about the 'wearable' argument..i saw some of santino's outfits and they were nice, but daniel's stuff is just so crisp and clean and well-made, so i have to give it to him.
jenny10girl- i agree that some of nick's stuff started to look simiar, but i think the "fishtail" skirt was just his 'signature look', kind of like 'the ruffle' is santino's and 'boring' is kara's :)

SANTINO ROCKS! he is the visionary. fashion is about the next big thing! not playing it safe. his model really fits his designs well also as she has an exotic look that enhances his weirdness.
daniel v is very good, but maybe too polished and safe. i will have to admit he does have the best model, heather is the bomb! she really fills out his creations. Iman stating that danny v is "borderline boring" sorry but that is the death bell for a designer.
chloe, just about the same thing, i think she has a better chance than danny v. she can afford to experiment now that she has gotten this far and i think she does not really care because of her established business. that is a plus. she may go nuts on the next project. she can be more creative than she has shown. i think her model grace is too skinny and sickly looking though.
i still say santino will win. he has the total package. plus he could have his own show,(prediction) he is very marketable.

Great recap as always . . . just caught this one last night, and I had no idea they would all go to fashion week to keep us from knowing (so really, top 4 was a good enough inspiration)
I can't help but think that Nick would have had a ready theme for his line, isn't that what a fashion designer has been dreaming of all their lives, and I can't believe they all didn't have a "dream" dress ready to roll out for said fashion line.
I have found Santino entertaining at times, but he's back to ick-ville for me, slimey ick-ville. I thought his dress was horrid and I agree with whoever said if he had stopped 2 hours sooner, because the bodice inparticular was nice--same thing with the skating dress, the initial form was fine. I just don't get all the flourishing, but now i must go peek at getty . . .

i just finished looking at the fashion week photos of our heroes here are my thoughts.
#1 SANTINO had a great collection, a lot of metallic colors and very hot designs. outstanding. real professional and chic no where near as weird or crazy as his work on PR.
#2 KARA surprise, surprise came through with an awesome collection. very colorful and hip. not boring and lame like she did on PR. very cool and hip. she really did a nice job with layers and a sexy urban look.
#3 chloe, very cool, much more over the edge than on PR. you would not guess it was her work based on what we have seen. a lot of classic design and cool professional.
#4 DANNY V.. more of the same as PR. and that is pretty good. i did not see any change from his norm on PR. to me it seems he ran out of ideas. maybe he shot his wad on PR.
what did you guys think?

I just watched the slideshow and think Chloe will win...she combined style and originality best.
Btw I agree, WTF is so great about Iman?? I mean, ok, I'm not a fashion designer, but come on Bravo, you have a lay audience to entertain! Yes she's Bowie's chick and that's cool but still...

Wait a minute, wasn't it Iman who got Mr. bowie to fix his teeth . . . that was a good thing!!!
I didn't study the fashion week things, but I agree with Heehaw, Santino was surprisingly tasteful, and feminine, kara, big surprise and good for her to have the chance, Chloe's the winner for me, despite that dress with the hugh sleeves, and Daniel, ho-hum--I don't think he'll win . . .we'll see . . .
