Hi Gasmii--
I should really heed Kandi's words and "Fly Above" the nastiness of chickadee2586, who basically accused me of phoning in last week's blog, but please allow me to emphasize the inherent difficulty of "recapping" a Reunion in which everyone gets along, refuses to go off on each other, and declines to answer any remotely juicy questions. Considering the drama-free tepidness of what Bravo gave me to work with, I feel that I delivered as much snark as humanly possible. Perhaps chickadee would like to try her hand at spinning this tired shit into comedy gold. I'm sure she could have livened up my painful "summary" by injecting lots of hilarious jokes about Kandi's ex-fiance getting whacked.
Despite the promise of actual fireworks in the second half of the Reunion, not a whole helluva lot happens in this one either. Forgive me for not having enough free time to fabricate a more entertaining Reunion from scratch and then recapping that. Was that snarky enough for you, honey?
OK, I feel better now. I know MOST of you do appreciate all the work we recap artists put into these things, and I've been thrilled with 98% of the reaction to this blog. I'm not mad at YOU. I'm mad at the tired, hypocritical attitudes of the RHOA (minus Kandi of course). And chickadee2586.
So let's wipe off the flop-sweat and try this shit again....
Miss Thing kisses up to the Wives by telling them what feisty little "one-liner machines" they are. Then we get a montage of the season's most deathless dialogue, including my personal favorite: NeNe referring to Kim as "a dirty, low-down monkey with a wig on." Kandi barely has one line, and not her classic about NeNe being lucky she ain't paid to think. Lisa gets none.
"You can whip up a metaphor about a wig in a minute flat!" Miss Thing squeals to NeNe, who modestly says she just stays in the moment and works with it. Then Miss Thing starts rattling off "the famous fans" of RHOA: Anderson Cooper, Ashton & Demi, Cameron Diaz, Jimmy Fallon. Have any of the Wives heard from any of them? NeNe says Gayle King and Demi & Ashton, who sent her "a shout-out" on Rachel Zoe. Lisa drops Tyler Perry. That surprises me. I would've thought Sheree, as "Atlanta's #1 designer" would be the fave of Atlanta's #1 DL Daddy.
Miss Thing mentions a recent mayoral debate in town in which the candidates were asked if this show is a good rep of Atlanta. Kandi, the smartest and most likely to follow politics, heard about this. MT says several candidates said definitely not. Kandi found the question "dumb"-- the show has nothing to do with the mayoral race, but she adds that she's met more than one candidate at a party and they asked for photo-ops with her.
Riveting!
Next up-- MT introduces hair-related clips, including, yet again, the barely averted scuffle between Sheree & Kim outside Fab. Miss Thing asks what S meant when she said "I felt the need to tug on Kim's wig... shift it a little". S says "there was so much going on"-- she and Kim were both "loud" and "it was more of a calm-down". Does that mean S was trying to tranquilize Kim or herself by yanking on Kim's hairpiece? Kim says she can look back at that night and laugh. But at the time she must've been "freaked", MT prods hopefully. Kim says "at the moment" it may have been "uncomfortable" but now all the swearing on kids and weave-grabbing just seems "funny".
MT says NeNe looked "shocked" at the sidewalk mini-altercation. NeNe chuckles. Kim says last year Kim's hair "was a real sensitive topic", but not anymore. Once more, we see MT ask Kim to "take that damn thing off right now"-- MT just wants "to see what it looks like". Kim refuses, but grabs her hair by its lapels and wiggles it back and forth on her scalp for a beat. "You want one?" Kim cracks to MT. Yes, MT gushes. On to "the intervention scene where NeNe convinces Kim to sit down and hash it out with her Sheree": it was "so intense" Bravo devoted an entire episode to it (the "director's cut" of "Unbeweavable", available on iTunes) and "it was shocking when we extended the scene and a certain celebrity dad showed up":

OMG! Is it just me or did Dwight look like Eddie Murphy in "Vampire in Brooklyn"?? LMAO! When he was handing out critiques to all the ladies, that would have been the first thing out of my mouth if I were anyone of them!!

Wow LL! I can't believe you dedicated an entire intro to what I thought was a simple critique. There was absolutely no nastiness intended and I can't believe you actually got that from what I wrote. Obviously, I am well aware that there is not much going on in this reunion to work with but I didn't expect your recap to be so summary heavy. Which is all I said in this supposed nasty comment. I've been reading your recaps all season and thought they were great. Last week's was off to me and I just thought as a reader I would give you honest feedback. You shouldn't be so defensive when no one is attacking you.

LL - I love you! You crack me up!! Bethenny mentioned in her blog she thought the girls were jealous of Kim when she was singing - did anyone else think that?? I totally think they were embarressed for her. That performance was so pitiful and embarressing! I was also getting really annoyed with Kims dirty looks to MT. It's like she's all up on her high horse now or something. MT backed down way too easily, he's running the show and should have reminded her of that. It will be interesting to see what they do next season with the ATL girls, since they are all clearly above the drama now. Whatever!! I'm ready for the OC trainwreck now! Fantastic job LL!

LL, I think you read way to deeply into my comment. I never said that your work wasn't funny. I've been reading since your first RHOA recap. If I didn't think your work wasn't funny I wouldn't have contiuned to read for such a long time. While I did say I read through the first few pages (as in, 4-5 pages) when I left the comment I did finish the recap after thinking my opinion would change. In fact, even after your tirade against me at the beginning of this recap I still read the whole thing. In the end I still felt the same way -- too much summary. I'm not sure how else that would be phrased to make it more constructive to you. I'm not a writer, so I was just voicing my opinion in a way that made sense to me. Obviously, it didn't translate to you, the writer. I just feel that these last two recaps were almost word for word telling me what happened and were very very light on the commentary. That's not something I particularly enjoy reading. Yes, yes, I know-- then don't read it. I've been reading your recaps for a long time though and would like to continue too... which is why I voiced my opinion. Ultimately, it seems as if you really don't want anything other than positive feedback. Your visceral reaction to my comment was really unnecessary. Your Al-Qaeda comment was also really uncalled for. Using 9/11 as a comparison doesn't make sense and makes you seem hostile.

@leia labiblia
When some poster tries to go all Al Qaeda on your recap and yank on your weave like that, you really should follow Kim's example and turn the other cheek.
Every time you respond to a flame, the terrorists win...

Leia and Chick need their own show, there fighting is much more fun than the Reunion show was!

I'm not sure what chickadee did to deserve such vitriole. I think her comment was in no way an attack but she sure as heck received one in return. Not all comments are going to be raves but you shouldn't attack the ones that disagree with you.
I agree that part of what makes TVGasm great is that we get a healthy dose of snark not just a play-by-play of a show. If we wanted the play-by-play we could go to the show's website. It's the added spice that makes the gasm the gasm.
If you want to rip on someone - keep it to the people in the show you are recapping, not the people who are kind enough to respond to your writing.

I'm not sure I really follow. Basically, I'm done with this argument. You're being irrational and defensive. You've made it clear anything less than positive feedback is unwanted. If I don't like any of your future recaps, I'll simply stop reading.

Leia, as a writer you should know that not everyone is going to love what you write. Your tirade eagainst Chickadee was not funny or entertaining. The ladies of Atlanta are not the only ones who lost a fan this season.

Leia - I will admit that what Chickadee initially wrote was harsh in tone and seemed more snarky than warranted. She could've phrased it differently. So, I understand your response to it. However, her comments on this post were incredibly well thought out and seemingly apologetic. Yet, your behavior in her recent comments was unwarranted, particularly in calling her a 'stalker,' when she attempted to explain. Two other posters also responded, stating your behavior seemed a bit extreme, but you blew off one of them, intimating you don't quite care about reader response. I have enjoyed all of your reviews for RHOA and MP. And, I am a writer. But, if this is how you respond to minor comments, particularly when the person makes an attempt to amelliorate their statement (and others ask you to re-consider your position), I might ask Flipit or whoever is the current tvgasm editor to reconsider using you as a tvgasm blogger. There is a reason there is a contact page. Bring the snark, but leave the virulence at home. And, any writer who takes the attitude 'well, I don't need any of you' to non-aggressive comments on a site that is not their own and dedicated to a public audience, should re-consider their dedication to the craft. Will I cease to read you? I don't know, I enjoyed your past posts, but your current behavior, which I hope is just due to a bad day, makes me re-consider.

to chikadee, tvland and anicho :
did you guys have your sense of humor surgically ex-planted? Or did someone step on and broke your funny bone?
I'd have never thought it would be so HARD for some people to recognize good, home-grown sarcasm. Maybe you should find some other blog to read since this one seems to go right over your heads. You all got so worked up about nothing, spewed so much painful indignation for no good reason.
You criticize the blogger, demand MORE SNARK, then CAN'T GET THE JOKE when she hits one out of the park! This is Leia's blog, this is her home turf, and it is her right to defend and explain herself. That she can do it with so much fun and wit should be celebrated not bitched about. Why do you try to ruin it for everyone else? You do not like it here - stop coming over, stop reading, stop commenting. We live in a free country, and if you are big enough to dish it, you should be able to take it.
Leia - you are awesome. I absolutely love your recaps, and you do make oratorical miracles happend out of some increadibly sad crap that this show has been giving you to work with.
Laugh on!! Can't wait to read your recaps again. :)

I don't like what's going on in this board. It reminds me of when my parents would fight, beat each other, and break furtinure while I hid under the bed.
Let me just ask...is everyone arguing because of me? Just like mom and dad? It's all my fault.
Just kidding and trying to lighten things up. Oh, jeez, don't people blame me for being insensitive to people who did witness such abuse in their homes.
Man, I guess not just anyone can be a writer.
All I can add is that my entire life has been making people laugh all the while offending someone else in the process (not on purpose, of course) or trying to be funny and no one getting the joke.
Let's all just find a happy place and play nice.

I just noticed that LL deleted all of her comments on this post. I'm not sure if that was her choice or not but it totally makes me look like I'm talking to myself. LOL
Anyway, thanks anicho01, tvland and tink for seeing where I'm coming from. I appreciate your input. I was starting to wonder if I was really far out of line.
Renata, I'm not trying to pull you into an argument too but I don't think LL's response to me was intended to be sarcastic. It's very clear to me that her response was entirely serious. I'm not trying to ruin anyone's fun. I don't know if you read what I wrote in previous posts but I did explain that I've always loved LL in the past and why I wrote the initial comment.
Ultimately, I know this is all a silly and petty argument over a RHOA recap but I would appreciate it if LL would respond at this point in a less defensive manner. Not that she owes me anything -- I just think it would be a nice gesture.

Of course I was joking. Of course my references to 9/11 and stalking and jalapeno enemas were not to be taken seriously. Of course I am very grateful to Renata for her articulate voice of sanity.
I did remove my responses because the humorless maelstrom they were causing was bumming me and everybody else out. No one ordered me to do it. This is a free-expression zone and everything short of extreme vulgarity or hate-speech is allowed, from readers and recap artists.
I am a snarky bitch paid thousands of dollars a month to entertain you. When I hear I am not being snarky ENOUGH, what do you expect me to do? Send you a muffin basket?
Chickadee & The Chickadee Fan Club-- Let's please chill out, forgive each other, and put this to rest for this week.
But props to the balls on whomever thinks they can get me fired just by asking. It didn't work for Naomi Campbell in 1986 and I doubt it's gonna work now.
Besos,
LLB

That final response has revealed that you've definitely lost another fan.

and you lost another fan.
Thank you chickadee for posting what I was thinking as I was reading...

Leia:
I'm still with you, sistah! And all those people who are hating on you can just fuck off, imo. When I read Chick's original comment (on the last recap), I found it uncalled for as it could have been phrased better. To me, it seemed to really be unappreciative of the work and dedication that goes into writing these recaps. NOT TO MENTION the fact that you had to do double duty when you and Flip thought this season only had 9 episodes.
I also found the intro about Chick quite funny. If she had a sense of humor, she probably would have too. But, ah well, we can't have everything in this world can we?
So let me stand up and say that I think you do a fantastic job. You are one of my favorite recappers here and I look forward to the next show you recap. I am appreciative of the time and effort that you put in to entertain me and everyone else.

"I just think it would be a nice gesture"
Good thing chickadee2586 doesn't get paid to think.
*snap*
I don't even know what the ruckus is/was but I could not resist that one.

Ok..Between all the random ass bold words and lame ass highlights..the recaps just are not funny. They do not encapsulate the wit and spirit of the site when it was at its best..no need to give BSide's blog address..but yeahhhh..way more humor and "snark" over there...if people wanted a summary, they would watch the show..heck..if people wanted an intelligent recap of trashy reality TV, then they would frequent Videogum..wayyyy more clever and interesting..not simply a summary of the events that occurred or a bitchy response to non-congratulatory comments..
21 of 23 | Posted by anperez05 | Posted on November 12, 2009 11:30 PM
Hey anperez05, here is some free advice. If you don't like the recaps, don't read them. I'm sure somehow the rest of us will be able to move on with our lives without you.
22 of 23 | Posted by Snootchy Bootches | Posted on November 13, 2009 9:44 AM
Leah you've still got me. Keep writing the best recaps on this site and I'll keep reading. Let the haters be your motivators sistah.
