I feel like The Duel just started a week or two ago, but the truth is that we're already down to five guys and five girls, which means there's not much time left in this season. Maybe it's for the best. This iteration of The Real World/Road Rules Challenge started off so promisingly and seemed to get better and better each episode, but with the questionable elimination of Beth, the drama has quietly leaked away. I think one of the main problems is the lack of a secret vote. This whole pick'em thing just doesn't deliver the dramatic goods. Why not steal a page from the two best reality competitions out there: Survivor and Big Brother. Get them secret votes going! This show needs less X-TREEEEEME competition and more scheming and manipulation.
But for now, I guess we'll have to deal with what we have, and that's not bad by any means. With only Brad, CT, Eric, Wes, and Evan left for the men, the big question was who was going into the Duel, and who was going home? (And would CT ever overcome his chronic nose congestion?)
This week's parade of silliness began with Brad and Eric talking about how crazy the Duel is. I mean, it could blow your mind! You never know what the event is; so how do you strategize over who to pick? "I don't know how I would ever pick," Brad said, which clearly meant that he would in fact be picking later this episode. However, Eric then told us that he's not sure who he'd pick to go into the Duel either, but it definitely wouldn't be Brad. Okay, scratch that last comment I made about Brad. Eric is DEFINITELY going into the Duel and dragging Brad with him. POTENTIAL JUDAS!
Meanwhile, sitting on the ever romantic Bench of Stupidity were Diem and CT, flirting the night away and whispering sweet nothings (emphasis on "nothings") into each other's ears. CT explained that he's been trying to kiss Diem for so wicked lawng, but the only problem was that she had a three week moratorium on smooching. Alas, this meant all CT could do was shower her with compliments like "You're fine." And when she didn't believe him, he insisted, "You are!" But of course, in his Boston-ese, it sounded like "You AHHHH!!!!"
Back at the compound, Evan and Wes announced that they wanted to take out CT from the competition, and their best bet, they figured, would be if Eric were to take him into the Duel -- assuming that Eric was going into the Duel, which he may not have been. As you can see, Wes and Evan's plan wasn't exactly "foolproof", or as I like to call it, "Them-proof."
Later, the clue for the next day's challenge arrive, and Jodi read it out loud: "At tomorrow's challenge, you're really going to have to step it up!" What could it be? Well, one guy off camera suggested, "Maybe we'll all be riding escalators, dude." Yes. I'm sure that's exactly what it is. Everyone knows competitive escalatoring is one of the most intense X-Treme sports out there.
We then saw flashes of locals playing soccer and whatnot, and I got to wondering: why the hell had there not been any soccer-centric competition yet? I mean, they're in Brazil, home of Pélé. Can we even try to be as smart as The Amazing Race and derive games from the local geography? Apparently not. This week's challenge had to do with stacking crates. Actually, this was a pretty fun event. Basically, each guy would team up with a girl and then stack crates to create an ascending staircase so they could reach a flag hanging from the ceiling. Fastest team to grab the flag would win both an NHL package for the girl (and you know Kina's the type that walks around Jersey in a Devil's jersey) and immunity from the Duel for the guy.
Well, all the men paired up with the women, and as the first three teams prepared for the event, CT began flirting, surprisingly humorously, with Diem -- telling her not to fart in his face and whatnot. He told he us he was so confident he wasn't going into the Duel that he'd rather flirt than strategize. Hey, if you don't want to compete, how about you cut your hair instead? That beast must be tamed.

and I agree, these challenges are getting lamer and lamer with each season. the only ep that I look forward to watching is the first one, so i can see who's in it and how different they look since the last time.
i heard MTV is bringing road rules back though..that should be good!

Is Svetlana's tattoo real? PLEASE tell me it isn't - I'm hoping because she's Jewish, she would not do a real one.
OK, the girls have the next duel. I think either Aneesa or Svetlana will be picked, but they will not pick each other. I think Svetlana would pick Diem, or Aneesa would pick Kina, and they could easily take them out. I predict the last two girls will be Aneesa and Jodi. Jodi on account of all the male hormones.
A three week rule for kissing? How heartfelt and spontaneous.

I think the guy duels are going to be very interesting from now on. All the guys left appear like good competitors. I hope evan does a good job as he seems to be the only one who isn't a dick on the show

Boring episode for the most part. Who the hell cares about CT and Cancer Girl? She did this same thing with Derrick last season, as nurseratched points out. Maybe it's all for attention and airtime? Yeah, probably.
Only thing I can say is I'm glad Brad won because I don't particularly like Eric, whereas I love Brad. In fact, I like all of the guys left. I hope Kina goes next (though she was noticably absent from this episode, thank God), then Diem, then Jodi.

CancerGirl is SUCH a tease! I don't believe she didn't think anyone could see and her CT kissing for a single second, either.
Apparently TJ had been heavily smoking and drinking the night before this challenged. He sounded mighty hoarse.
I love how Wes makes these plans which always fail. Is it wrong that I don't dislike him as much as I used to?
The prize for the girls this week was totally lame, but I laughed at the looks on their faces when TJ announced it.

Love the screen cap of Kina. She drives me nuts (I think it's the eye shadow), and I can't stop laughing at the screen cap.
I think next week Kina and Svet are going into the Duel. No real reason, just my guess from the previews. I really want Svet to win it all - I hated her on Key West, but she's slowly turning into a fave of mine.

Great recap as always. I find myself thinking just like B-Side when I am watching the shows. It is very much entertaining.
I am honestly thinking it will be Kina and Diem in the final (?) female Duel. It kind of seems to be the smartest move if either girl goes in because both Aneesa and Svetlana have defeated people in the Duel. Besides, there is no way either of them would ever beat Jodi in the final unless it was a contest like who wears blue eye shadow better or who wears the crappier wigs. If they were smart (and a BIG if), that is what they should do.
If it is Kina and Diem in the next Duel, I am going for Diem to win because Kina is the most ANNOYING cast memeber EVER, whether in the challenges or her stupid season. Her season and her castmates were the most HORRIBLE season of Road Rules anyway.

Diem only mildly irritated me up until this show, but after the whole "I'm so embarassed, could you REALLY see me kissing CT in broad daylight just a few yards away from the porch of the house?" and the uber-irritating "It was the #1 best kiss ever. hee hee hee" she has officially joined the ranks of Kina. She needs to go home NEXT WEEK!

I caught the “unsturdy” comment also and thought B-Side would have a field day with it! But at this point, it’s probably getting a little old (and way too easy) to continually state the obvious…that Kina is illiterate.
Frankly, her misuse of the English language wouldn’t even be an issue for me (sad, but not an issue) if she wasn't so irritating and full of herself.
Too bad Beth isn’t still around to annoy Kina the way Kina annoys all of us!

Don't be too hard on Kina for her grammatical missteps. After all, her boyfriend is (was?) Big Ran from RW SD. I'm sure you all remember his lesson in "agnostics" with Robin. Birds of a feather.

On a more snarky note, everytime I look at Brad, I want to knock the bug eyes out of his head. Take off that hat, you tool! God, what a douche.

WTF???????? I really didn't think anyone would leave eric for last. I was very surprised that he chose brad and even more shocked when brad won. The previews look sooooooo good. I think kina is so crazy. and i mean looney crazy! In the previews she kept saying she was crazy and i think she was trying to scare the other girls, but i think she was trying a little too hard. I hope aneesa or svet take her out in the next episode. that would be so awesome. I think Diem is so FOS I was wondering what happened to her and Derek too. I thought they were hooking up after the last challenge. I think she was using him hoping he would lead her to victory and when he didn't, she probably dissed him afterwards. I think she is running game on CT as well. you know, she does kinda remind me of tonya!

I honestly am starting to like Wes... is that weird? He's not really that obnoxious anymore. I also love Svet, and pray her tattoo isn't real! The rest of this season should be good with all the really competitive guys left.

Brad needs his own talk show where he could interview people in his quiet, intense voice and the bug eyes. No studio audience...a closed set, for added intensity. That'd be awesome.

Still hate Kina, still hate Cancer. I don't get it, she goes on a long, hot sweaty run with the wig, but takes the wig off to suck face? WHY?
I used to like Big Easy, but for some reason I think he's becoming more and more unlikeable.
I can't believe I'm even saying this, but I'm kind of rooting for Aneesa and/or Wes. I'd be OK with Svetlana too. I feel dirty.

I don't think they should be allowed to pick the same person they picked the last time. Every episode CT picks Diem and Evan picks Jodi, etc. That would shake things up a bit. People would be hardcore scheming then!

I want Wes to stick around and make it to the final but not win. That way, he'd take down more veterans, but if he didn't win the money then I'd get to see him distraught/sad, which is great 'cause he's a douchebag and I hate him.

Chee-Z, I think Diem taking her wig off to kiss CT was supposed to be symbolic of her letting her guard down and becoming involved with him... something stupid like that. Only makes it sound even more contrived, like she knew everyone would be watching them and she wanted even one more excuse to throw in a stupid comment.
