It turns out they do have to sit on the ice, but not for hours. They're playing some kind of human ice shuffleboard. They'll pair up in teams of two--one dude, one girl--and the chick will sit on the block of ice and the dude will push her and hope that she lands into one of the circles that are marked 5, 10 ,15. The highest points win, and if the chickies touch the ice their team will be DQ'ed. Basically, all the girls have to do is sit on the ice and hold on while the men do all the work. In speedos!!
Evan grabs the 6 strongest guys to be on his team, which in a total rip-off of the Apprentice, they name Team Success. Team Success is made up of Evan, Mark, Brad, Landon, Big Easy, MJ and their respective partners.
Outfitted in his Speedo, Dunbar tells us that "I feel great, but my penis hates me." Oh Dunbar, I hate your penis too and think you should cut it off so there's no fear of Dunbar II.
Dunbar pushes Diem, but her foot hits the ice and they gets DQ'ed. Couldn't have happened to a nicer person, now get off my screen and moan to someone else how CT's rage is your fault.
Everybody else gets their broads over into the points circle, with the exception of Ryan, who literally pushes Jenn off the ice block.
MJ pushes Robin, and they are one of the only teams to not score. Hope his daughter wasn't planning on going to college.
Mark pushes Rachel pretty far without breaking any of his old, brittle bones. Brooke and Nehehmiah get DQ'ed, as do Brittini and Landon.
My homeboy Brad and Tori are the last ones, and they score. Team Success wins! Now Team 2 sits it out while Team Success divides themselves into 2 teams of 3 pairs.
Mark, Brad, Landon are Team 1 (Team SUC?), and Evan, Easy and MJ are Team 2 (Team Cess).
Evan pushes Paula off her ice block, and they get DQ'ed. What, Evan, no dramatic statement now?
Mark ignores the pain in his knees and his recently replaced hip and Rachel goes pretty far. MJ and Robin do pretty well.
Landon and Brittini score, as does Aneese and Eric. But, Brad pushes Tori into the 5-point circle, so Team 1 is the winner. Go Team Suc!
Now all 3 pairs from Team Suc are competing against each other. Mark pushes Rachel into the 10-point circle, then promptly falls down when celebrating. He's been taking his Centrum Silver, so he doesnt' hurt himself too badly
Landon also gets Brittini into the 10 point circle, but Brad fails with Torii. Mark and Landon are now tied and enter a sudden death round where distance will win.
(Side note: Landon is pretty hot. And I thought him and MJ were BFFs on thier season but hardly seem to talk on this challenge? Anybody got gossip they can share?)
Mark and Rachel win, making the AARP proud. He interviews that he's the oldest, but looks best in the speedo, and I painstakingly have to agree with him. Centrum Silver does a body good!
Mark and Rachel are safe from the duel but now have to decide who the first person they want to save is. They have about 30 minutes to decide. Rachel says Aneesa, and Mark agrees but on the condition that she saves Landon. I don't really understand why the pecking order matters, as long as you're not called last.
MJ is scheming, or trying to scheme, with Evan. Evan says his only obligation is to say Paula's name. MJ wants to get Paula to vote for him, but Evan says it will backfire since Paula has obligations to Ryan. MJ argues that Ryan is a little playa since he was drinking wine with Robin, an offense punishable by death. Isaac wisely stays mum throughout the whole convo (go Team Issaac!).
Ryan and Paula are talking, and Paula promises him that she'll do whatever possible to protect him from going back into the Duel. Paula mets with Evan, saying everybody said she's supposed to pick up MJ, but she wants to stick with Ryan or Dunbar. Evan plays dumb, saying all he knows is that he has to say Paula. He interviews that somehow along the way he became the Godfather, and I submit this statement as Exhibit B in the case of Why I Dislike Evan.

thanks for making a soup reference. one of my favorite shows, and joel mchale rocks. not suprised that you watch the soup...joel mchale and tvgasm are the two reasons that i'm scared to go on a reality show, so how fitting...

If my memory is correct, the previews showed Evan having the last pick and choosing Paula to go in the duel and paula flipping him off...it might have just been that he didn't save her...i am not entirely certain about the last choice part, though i imagine no one else will
save her if evan doesn't, so she probably is in regardless

I have been watching these duels since the bald guy hosted the inferno..what was his name? Oh someone please look that up I'm so lazy. Anyway, I'm so glad someone is recapping them like this because as much as I love them, my god, could it get any more ridiculous?
Also, I agree with tv freak. The Soup is great. You should recap it. Although recapping a recap...well now I'm dizzy.

what happened to Robin, I remember her on her season, she was a tough girl, now she has turned into this low self esteem, hanging all over guys chic. She needs to move out of LA and discover who she is.
I think it wasn't fair for Ryan to pick Nick last week, because he had a broken hand.
Paula is an idiot, why rock the boat so soon, I am sure some of the other girls would have picked dumbar anyway, but now she lost her alliance with Ryan, and Evan, painted a bulls eye on her back, and made it so obvious she was working with Dumbar, very foolish in my opinion.
Once again I like that Isaac and Ruthie are playing hte game, like they see how stupid the whole thing is.
Landon is a major hottie, but for the life of me, can't recall what season he was on, I know he had a crush on the black girl in the cast, but I can't remember anything else.
And what season was MJ on, I like how Rachel as mellowed down from Her Veronica adn Rachel Mean girls days.

Aren't people's ex-boyfriends fair game? And wasn't it Diem who wanted to seperate from CT? It's like Diem's a little girl who doesn't want to play with her doll, but gets jealous when another little girl does. In fact, all these contestants are like little girls.

Ok, I have to defend Robin. She did keep it together this challenge. Yes, there was some crying but she didn's freak out. I like her and she appears to have had some personal growth. My question is, why didn't she pick a weak player like that chick who was making out with the gay guys? She seems like easy pickin's.
Anyway, great recap! Soo looking forward to this week's episode. I hope Paula goes home, but I don't think she will.

Maybe I missed it, but why does everyone hate Diem? I remember her from the Fresh Meat Challenge. I was really touched when she told CT she had cancer and really proud of her competing without hair. I still like her. CT was really nice during that Fresh Meat Challenge. That's where Evan got his start I think. I like Evan too. MJ gets on my nerves though.

Diem was Derrick's partner on Fresh Meat and he was the one she first told about her cancer. Diem didn't meet CT until the challenge after that, which was The Duel 1. CT was not on Fresh Meat
A lot of people don't like Diem because they feel like she tries to make people feel sorry for her because of her cancer thing.

i dont think robin was on the show long enough to have one of her freak outs. and the girl who made out of the gay guys, brooke...she had to do rock climbing on her season. i think she would've beat robin too.

I knew Aneesa would win, it was obvious. She was seen throughout the trailer.
Anyway, I'm surprised Mark won, I thought he would do lousy on this challenge, but win on the "Last Man Standing" challenge.
Rachel won too. Don't care for her too much.
Anyway, I'm glad Ryan lost and Paula Walnuts is a bitch, I hope she loses soon.
I can't believe Kimberly beat Robin, how shocking.
Anyway, I already know Landon will win the next challenge(Look in the trailer, Mark and Landon are the last two. Landon takes down Mark.)

I still don't understand why MJ came in and now people need to save him and answer to him. Why did Paula mess everything up by picking Dunbar? Ryan still got picked... does Ryan think if MJ wasn't last, he wouldn't have gotten picked? I think it was funny that MJ & Robin were picked last since in the first episode MJ was sucking up to Robin begging her to pick him. I never understand why certain people get picked and others don't, like Isaac my favorite! And I will never like Easy after the challenge where he did NOTHING and got to the final challenge and ruined it for his team...i'm still so glad that happened. He is not a good competitor.
Nflow-I was thinking the same thing about Robin., she makes me nervous, i feel like any second she's going to crack. She was that tough bartender in the san diego season...
Also as for Diem, I thought she was sweet and so brave for fighting cancer, but if you beat cancer..would you really waste your time on CT? when she hooked up with CT i kind of lost respect for her because what is she thinking?? he's not even hot and he has a long history of being an asshole.

there was a scene where ryan, paula, and a few others were sitting around talking. ryan said that if mj was the last to get picked, he was definitely going to pick him to go into the duel. paula agreed. so by picking mj, paula was most likely saving ryan as well.

First, I am embarrased to say that at my age I am still watching this show, and am still very much into it (I stopped caring about Real World long ago). Moving on.
I used to think that CT was so completely hot physically, even though he was a gigantic douchebag. Now, not only is he not good looking, but it is crystal clear that within the next year or two he will be charged with anything ranging from aggravated battery to homicide. He is a certifiable, dangerous human being and if MTV keeps insisting on bringing him back for this shit, they'd better have lots and lots of liability insurance.
The fact that Shauvon banged him within the (what seemed like) first HOUR of being in the house--the Diem situation notwithstanding--not only proves her to be a dirty skank whore, but one with not a whole lot of sense.
Landon is still SO hot. I hope he hooks up with the Black girl on this challenge (don't know her name, but obviously not Aneesa), for purely selfish reasons! I loved when he hooked up with Shavonda during his RW season, although I was sooo jealous that it wasn't me!
Davis was my "Gay Boy crush" during his RW season, and I LOVED that he also makes out with girls! So again, I'm glad that Ryan is gone for purely selfish reasons.
I will end with this...if Paula still thinks that any of the usual suspects are her "friends" and will not betray her at the drop of a hat (LIKE LAST TIME), she truly is an idiot.
