Overreacting for Dummies

hulklosesit.jpgBefore I even go into the D-R-A-M-A-! that was this episode, I'll reflect a little. I've been watching the Real World for many many years, and I'd have to say that the last few seasons have declined into just arguing and stupidity from well... more entertaining arguing and stupidity. This episode is the reason that people used to watch the Real World. I broke into gleeful laughter no less than 5 times at the idiotic things that came out of these people's mouths. As much as I hate Irulan and Arissa, watching Brynn smile sweetly while Trishelle throws her a bachelorette party just isn't the reason that I watch the show. It's so I can hear Irulan say stuff like 'take responsibility for yourself.' Really? I mean, really, did you just say that? I almost checked my dicitonary to make sure the definition for hypocrite hadn't been instantly changed to Irulan from the Reunited Real World: Las Vegas. And on that note here's tonight's episode...

Things start off innocently enough for this crew. Trishelle is planning a bachelorette party for Brynn, and all the other girls are on board. No surprise that it won't be in the original Palms suite, I mean we've got a product placement quota to meet. Besides, if strippers showed up, Arissa might launch into a tirade about disrespecting communal spaces.

Anyway, the boys decide that the best thing to do is throw Austin a bachelor party the same night. At this point Steven again amazes us with his witty humor and makes a comment about Austin screwing any girls that might show up. If someone's mom has died in the last 5 years I'll take bets that he manages to incorporate it into his comedy routine in the 3 episodes left. Since Trashelle has been behaving herself, I'd offer longer odds on her taking off her clothes.

I'll be here all week!

The girls have rented a suite with a name that I refuse to mention because I will NOT give them more free promotion. It's quite nice acutally, and the most interesting part is that it has a stripper pole... in the shower. This could shorten the odds on Trashelle and her clothes. They surprise Brynn with some cake and a few cheesy gifts when.... why is that the door? Who could it possibly be? It's strippers of course, two of them with towels(?). They drag Brynn over to the couch and proceed to strip. Well... sort of. I never actually saw any thing other than an undershirt, so I'll chalk it up to bad editing. Another knock at the door and it's more strippers! These two are cops and again, all I see is clothes. Not to worry though, because Trishelle has ordered even MORE strippers. Irulan complains that there are now more strippers than guests. But I mean, come on, it's an easy mistake for any novice party planner to make.

Spazziest Stripper Ever

grossboobies.jpg

Just like Brynn five years ago! But with ginormous fake boobies.

After the strippers leave, Trishelle mentions that she had to take pole dancing lessons for her movie. My first thought is why would someone hire Trishelle for a movie, and my second is surprise that she didn't already know how to pole dance. The girls beg for lessons, and the pants come off. She's actually pretty good, not that I have any clue what pole dancing should look like. She coaches Irulan through it, but ultimately Trashelle keeps her clothes on.

footinmouth.jpg

I'm about to put my foot in my mouth.

The boys' suite has a basketball court, 4 female bartenders included. The bartenders are tamely dressed, so it's still possible there are no strippers at this fiesta. Knowing the set of brains that Alton has he probably mixed up the word naked and clothed when he ordered the strippers. Well, you can't be blessed all over. Alton decides to challenge the girls to a basketball game, for the suite. Steven then proceeds to tell us that he is the only guy on his team that is good at basketball. Super athlete Alton not good at a sport? Blasphemy! Or another joke, Steven?

While the two parties are separate things are pretty boring. The boys finally beat the girls in basketball. The score was 15-2, which pissed me off. Why did I watch 5 minutes of Steven and Alton worrying they might lose their $40,000 suite if there could have been some more arguing? I'm quite gullible so honestly I was a little in suspense about them losing the game, but the girls leave without any debauchery.

Great recap KittyKitty. I felt the same way about Arissa and Irulan. I can't believe they're like 28 years old and still acting this way. You'd think that once you saw yourself on TV looking like an ass the first time around, you'd learn and try to come off as less of an ass next time. Nope.

I loved how Irulan actually showed him the little bump on her leg and said "i hope this was worth it" as if she had lost a limb because frank decided to drive drunk or something. She seriously acts like a 4 year old.

Also loved when Irulan was about to get on the phone and Trashelle walked in and was like "whaaaat? i was just at the bar...." shocker.

i really hate irulan. I agree with Emilita that you think she would learn to act more mature and less like a child than last time but oh no, that would be taking responsibility for yourself. who does that?

I was absolutely astounded by the time this episode ended. Just to make doubly sure I have this right:

Frank was goofing around. Irulan got pissed. Irulan took it upon herself to chase him all over the place. Irulan tripped over a chair. Irulan got a tiny mark on her knee. This is somehow Frank's fault. Irulan pouted. Alton wouldn't kiss her ass and tell her she was right. Irulan pouted more. Irulan decided to pull out all the stops for sympathy and declare she wanted to take her toys and go home.

And somehow, Trishelle felt that Irulan was actually justified and that Arissa's disgust at Frank absolutely trashing a place that didn't belong to him WASN'T justified???? (sorry, I have to side with Arissa on this one)

Somebody, please tell me that there was so much more legitimately serious information to warrant all of this that was edited out, because I'm appalled that these nearly-thirtysomething people are still acting like twelve-year-olds. It literally sickens me. I may be calling it quits and refusing to watch the rest of it. That would be 90 minutes of my life I'd never get back.

I'm glad you pointed out how hilarious/awesome Trishelle was in this episode. My favorite was right after Irulan stormed out, she says to no one in particular, "I thought I was going to be the one to cry and leave." HA!

I disagree in a major way. Although Irulan and Arissa are petulant and spoiled, they are coming to an amazing realization: Why am I putting myself through this living situation that I obviously hate and can't deal with for a second time? And, obviously, the answer is pathetic -- they're just trying to extend their 15 minutes of fame and most likely are get someeasy money. I mean, they knew they weren't into the people, the situation, the idea of living with an ex, but did it anyway and now in the middle of it, have to come to terms with the fact that they are pathetic. I mean, if they had successful careers or families/lives outside of the real world non-reality of infernos and crap they probably, maybe, possibly, would have passed on the chance to do this 'reunion'. But obviously, they don't.

At least Frank and Trashelle are pathetic but don't care - they're shamelessly camera-pandering. And Frank is coming off like a major loser, like the old guy at a college party, whose trying way too hard. That Stephen comes off as the most likeable now is just odd.

Kitty,
That was a great recap of a great episode. I loved your before and after shower screenshot. Too hilarious!

I love how Irulan embodies every trait she seems to be annoyed by. What a little whiner.

What a shame for Irulan that Arissa took the same night to flee the suite. Now the attention she so desperately craves is going to be shared with someone else.

And where does Frank keep finding these blur girls to make out with? I mean clearly these girls aren't using him to get their faces on tv - so what's in it for them?

bakismaki [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I think Frank realized after watching himself last time that he was too nice and didn't go crazy enough. So now flash forward he's trying to go crazy all the time. At time he does try too hard.

Arissa and Irulan are extremely annoying. They come off extremely emotionally unstable and high-maintenance. I feel really sorry for whoever their significant others are. When they were younger, the princess type stuff was kinda cute, but now that they are older, it's not very attractive.
