The Real World: The Powers of Rationalization

TyloveSo this is finally it. After years of reading TVgasm and all of the great recaps, I finally get to recap a show that people actually watch. Finally, a dream come true: a chance to make fun of the Real World cast in a public forum. And I promise I'll try to do my best to fill B-Side's gigantic shoes (seriously, they're like clown shoes). But, with the introduction out of the way, let's see what went down this week in Denver (Colorado!).

The show starts off at night showing the Denver skyline, and it looks pretty boring, and this is all while ominous music plays in the background. At first I was wondering if the Real World could actually start off on a serious note, until they showed Monarck. Everyone knows if you see Monarck, you know the Real Worlders will be inside, since there are no other bars in Denver.

It's at Monarck where we're introduced to the first storyline of the night: Tyrie and Jazalle. The two lovebirds were in line for the bathroom, kind of making out, and then we hear Colie mention that "They're so cute together," to Stephen and Alex. She's such a romantic. Well, Alex says that he thinks it's kind of hard on Tyrie, but not really because he likes her so much. Then Stephen jumps at the chance to tell them, "Tyrie told Jazalle he loved her." Both Alex and Colie react with shock, but it looks like Colie might also be a little jealous. At least, that's how it looked when I paused my DVR as she was leaning back. Alex says that it's bad for the Frat if Tyrie's in love with her. Hey, remember the Frat? How could you not, we've been hearing so much about it lately. (First sign of jumping around timeline.)

After that we see Tyrie and Jazalle in her car outside of Monarck. Tyrie tells her that he's very protective of his heart, and the only person who has his heart is his mom. But you're dead wrong if you think he just gave it to her. He made her work for it. He says it just to point out that he's trying to be careful with his heart. Jazalle responds by saying that Tyrie has her heart, "So don't fuck it up." Then Tyrie responds with the sweet words, "YOU don't fuck it up." Then Jazalle said "If you ever make out with that Brooke chick though, I'm through with you." I've got some bad news Jazalle...

Back at the house, Tyrie and Alex are doing what all normal people do after a night out: shooting hoops. This scene was kind of boring to me, since I don't really care about people's "feelings," whatever those are. But basically, Tyrie said he liked Jazalle a lot. Alex said he thought Jazalle was an intuitive, intelligent person who can help Tyrie should he ever need someone to lean on for support. And Alex said she's good-looking. We can't leave out the most important thing.

Tyrie responded with "I think she's fine." Hold on Tyrie, let's not get crazy with our adjectives here. Alex says, "She's not as fine as Ashley, but she's twice as smart!" I think Tyrie agreed, but he said when you consider personality and looks, Jazalle comes out ahead of Ashley. I also take that to mean that he thinks Ashley has the personality of a door, but maybe I'm just inferring that.

Then Tyrie points out to us that after he met Ashley, he invited her to come to the gym with her. Well, "Some things progressed," he says, which I take to mean their relationship on a purely spiritual, non-physical manner. Ok, that's a lie. They did it before he went to the gym. And might I add nice work Tyrie.

I was actually thinking that tyrie was alright til he started screaming at his girlfriend. abusive behavior is not alright and it pisses me off

Jenn is such a slut, damn! she jumped on stepehns friend the minute he came in there, and she had the audacity to get mad at her "boyfriend" jared for kissing someone. the stupidity amazes me.

anyone else notice that stephen is never around when something jumps off?

i dont know if its the stupid editing or what but something doesnt seem right with the way things played out in this episode.

luvly_grrl [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Hey i was first! thats a major accomplishment in my not-so-exciting life...sad really...

colie'scooter [TypeKey Profile Page]:

In terms of criticisms, Chee-Zee, I'm gonna let you have at it first before chiming in since I suspect you'll succinctly tackle everything I really want to expound on, but I WILL say this for all the Hills fans ripping into LagunaConsultant--clearly, it could be worse.

aholic [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I thought this recap was good. Totally loved the Gollum screencap.

shiaobundan [TypeKey Profile Page]:

^
??
I thought this recap was great. I have no problems with it, and I laughed out loud a couple times.

Treadingonme! Nice job! :)
You should have included the "GODDAMNSH*T!" Tyrie screamed after the "I'M NOT SCREAMING AT YOU!" That was the best part of the episode IMO.

Jenn, Jenn, Jenn! She has the wierdest logic ever! So, she has oral with one guy, sex with (one or two?) others ON CAMERA, but of course, its much more humiliating for Jared to kiss girls in public back home. Yeaaaaa. Not so much!

Tyrie was kind of scary this week. Jazelle was definately throwing a hissy fit over nothing, but he really shouldn't manhandle a chick like that ever. Maybe Tyrie doesn't realize how physically intimidating he is, because I guess if it had been Alex or Stephen doing/saying the same things it wouldn't have been as scary. I don't know, I felt sorry for both Jazelle and Tyrie.

And Jazelle is the most ridiculous spelling of "Giselle" I've ever seen in my life. It's worse than Kyndra for "Kendra"!

my little ^ was meant for comment #3 :)

MissKatrina [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Well done, Treadingonme!

This episode was edited beyond recognition as far as the Jenn/Jared thing. The only thing I could make out (pun intended) was that Jenn is slutty, but we all knew that already.

As for Jazalle, I think she was hammered drunk and being pissy, BUT Tyrie was getting scary. I don't think he'd hit her but he sure didn't hesitate to get in her face and yell at her. Talk about a deal-breaker.

And what was with Colie reading a book?! I bet it was, "He's Just Not That Into You, but Maybe If You Drunkenly Pester Him Enough He'll Come Around Eventually."

colie'scooter [TypeKey Profile Page]:

So I guess I'll chime in now...sorry pretties, but it's all in the syntax; this recap reads way too much like a play-by-play without enough creative liberties in the way of jokes or honing in on a particular moment(s) that might be hilarious even if it doesn't necessarily assist in the narration of the storyline. For me, with the exception of the screencaps, the funny observations were usually buried under
"then Tyrie did this, and that made Jazelle do that, and they both went..."

And lest you think I'm just having sour "no one will ever replace B-Side!" grapes, Treadingonme, you can definitely hop over to LagunaConsultant's first Hills recap and find that his writing--while rocky in some aspects--is already more polished in the aforementioned techniques. Don't be afraid to go a little wacky in your recpas--assert those jokes!

abffforever [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I loved your re-cap....Oh, I also love Colie.

jozeyg [TypeKey Profile Page]:

colie's cooter#8---

that's what i was thinking when i was reading the recap. there's too much of 'then he said, and then she said, and then wha happened was....' hehe. but u get my point. yeah more funnies would be better. But it started getting better towards the end.
Overall it was pretty good Treadingonme!! good job =)

oh and Jenn has issues! Does she seriously need to hook up with every guy she meets? And she tells every single guy 'you are so sexy' Someone needs to help her. And then she's gonna end up hooking up with Stephen?! ummm....stephen???? c'mon now.

I see Trishelle was on the aftershow.....i bet that she had no problem with Jenn's sluttiness. But she was probably thinking 'i was better at it'

swimbikerun [TypeKey Profile Page]:

To all those realizing just now thatTtyrie is a jerk, I say, duh!

It was pretty evident when he hit us earlier with his alter egos, which is simply an excuse for irresponsible people to act like jerks without expecting to be held responsible. Hey, it wasn't me, it was Leroy Jenkins, blame him! Idiot.

I'm sure the festivities in the bathroom will fizzle out in the first 20 seconds of the next episode.

Thanks for the recap, witty and entertaining, and easy to dance to, I give it a 9.

An one small, small critique for all of the new writers - please consider the difference between "to" and "too" when writing. Sorry, I was taught by nun. Nuns with rulers!

dmbislove [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I thought the recap was great. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm getting tired of all the B-Side comparisons. Don't get me wrong, he was great, and I loved reading his recaps, but he is gone now so everyone needs to move on. I feel like some aren't even giving the new writers a chance. And I am not talking about you colie'scooter, I am mostly referring to the 200 comments over on the Hills recap and the ones I am sure are going to fill this recap. I just think the writers need to find their groove.

Goulet! [TypeKey Profile Page]:

The recap wasn't bad. I just had the same issues others have already stated - too much play by play. Other than that it was good. The part with Darnell touring the house had me laughing out loud.

ponsoldt [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I thought this was a pretty good recap. Much better than Laguna Consultant for the Hills. I snickered a few times and really enjoyed the LOTR reference. The show didn't lend itself to as much joking this week with the whole domestic abuse undertone. But good start.

Jenn really is disgusting, but at least she wasn't wearing cut-offs for once. I think that went out around 1995. The way she was talking to Stephen's friend was so embarrassing.

sunshine858619 [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Treadingonme, job well done!! I must say, I was fearful about who might replace B-Side in the Real World recaps, but I no longer am. You did a much better job than B-Side's other replacement on the Hills! This recap was humorous, and included great screencaps! My favorite was the picture of Stephen with the caption "This was the moment Stephen realized he had feelings for Darnell" Thank you for the good job!

I agree with shiaobundan, Tyrie's "I'M NOT SCREAMING AT YOU!" followed by the "GODDAMNSH*T!" was a key hilarious moment. However, the end was really uncomfortable to watch with Tyrie getting out of control. Did you see the previews for next week when he is getting handcuffed outside the RW house?

And, agreed, don't take love advice from Colie. Well, unless you want to perfectly master the delusional and needy overbearing booty-call!!

luxe [TypeKey Profile Page]:

i didn't like this recap. i agree that it was too much of a play-by-play. it wasn't terrible, but i think it could be much better. sorry.

Chee-Z-TeeVee Addict [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I'm at work, but just wanted to weigh-in!

I thought the recap was pretty good, and I especially appreciate the fact that it was done so quickly! I think recapping is actually fairly difficult, and I respect both treadingonme and L-Con's willingness and dedication to all of us in taking it on.

I miss B-Side too, but he's moved on and think all of us need to as well. I am shamelessly addicted to MTV reality television, and aside from all of our silly disagreements and flames at each other - I'm very appreciative of the fact that we all have a place to interact. I genuinely believe that 50% of what makes this site so funny, interesting and entertaining is our participation as "responders" to the recaps.

I also think that there is a bit of a learning curve in establishing a dynamic between writing a complete commentary on the episodes, and finding a niche within an existing group of posters. Had treadingonme or L-Con begun recapping from the start of their respective seasons, the transition would have been much smoother, and we would probably have been less critical. We're a tough crowd! LOL!

See guys, I'm really not a TOTAL bitch! :-) Just don't let that get around.

I'll be posting more later on the actual episode - All I'm going to say for now is: I almost started thawing out on Tyrie by last week, but I should have trusted my initial instincts - he's a nasty motherfucker.

Also, I've made a personal commitment to not allowing any of my posts to miss an opportunity to bash E. Colie. MissKatrina - I actually thought the same thing about "He's Just Not That Into You..." LOL! You beat me to it, arrgghh :-) heh heh!

I did notice however that that pile of hay on top of her head looks just as good when she's lying in bed as it does in the bars. God, she's a fucking mess.

luxe [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Chee-Z,

I agree, I think it would be quite difficult to write a recap. I personally would be very intimidated!

I didn't like this one, but I didn't think it was bad either. I'll definitely keep reading the recaps no matter what. I'm a TVgasm junkie.

Shasthebest [TypeKey Profile Page]:

YankeesFan [TypeKey Profile Page]:

As Treading mentioned in the recap - i think this entire episode happened much earlier in the season...there was too much ashley talk (who has been out of the picture for awhile), The Frat thing, Jenn only hooking up with Alex once, and I think that the reason Colie had stayed in is because this is during the time she had mono...

Shasthebest [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I thought you did a pretty good job!! I didnt find myself comparing you with B-side as much like with LagunaConsultant!!

Something tell me that Stephen was more pissed at the fact that he wanted to make out with Darnell, and Jen ruined that for him!! I'm sorry but the guy screams gay!! Did you see the panties he was sleeping in?

I got Dejavu when Tyrie and Jazelle were fighting with the episode where Tyrie was trying to blow Jazelle off at the bar and she was like, "Stop being mean to me!" The way that she whines pisses me off, but she was right on both accounts.

I begin to wonder if maybe Jazelle has self esteem and insecurty issues, because she felt it necessary that Ashley is NOT cuter than her (SHE IS).
It doesnt help that Tyrie said so himself that Ashley does look better than her!!(I agree)

What I didnt understand was why after Tyrie grabbed her arm the first time did she run IN the house?! I would've been going in the other direction! Right after I told him to never put his Fu##ing hands on me!!

After this airs, I wouldnt be surprised if a couple of Tyries ex-girlfriends came forward and claimed that Tyrie abused them!! He is a total psycho!!

silentfire [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I liked the recap and I thought the screencaps were great but I do agree that there was a bit too much play by play commentary. Overall though I like it.

I thought it was funny that tyrie screamed that he wasn't screaming. I think he was just getting pissed off that jazaelle (sp?) would not shut up and since he probably was drinking it only made it worse. I don't think he realizes his strength when he pulled jaz like that, in hindsight after he watches this episode he would probably feel sorry/shitty.

Mgasm [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Treadingonme,

Thanks for stepping up to the plate. The fact that Jenn asked her sister to make out with her is HILARIOUS!! However, I do have one question: Is anybody editing these recaps before they're published? Because, I have a theory: B-Side is a professional writer with a background in journalism. Grammar ain't no thing for B-Side. I agree with the other posters who said there were too many, "then this happened and then that happened." I have a solution: Let someone edit.
But, overall I think you're a "rock star!" I'm not hatin'.
Jenn may have just out-skanked any other Real Worlders in Real World history. I think we should have a vote, though. Who can think of anyone skankier than Jenn on the Real World (or at least a girl...Remember the Miami threesome?) What was that whole Davis/Lance Bass thing about? And, did anyone else hear the sigh of relief from Jared when he heard Jenn had sex with Alex. I guess he thinks 'Once you go black, you can't go back.'

AC [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Mgasm- Didn't Jenn's ex look just like Tyrie? I remember her saying that and stating that is why she had so many issues with him earlier in the season?

AC [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I must say that this recap wasn't that bad at all! I actually read the whole thing and enjoyed it. Good job!

Definitely looking forward to your future recaps. I guess the only constructive criticism I have is what everyone else seems to be saying . . .just work on adding your own opinions into the mix.

Madeyoulaugh [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Maybe it's cause Im sick today and feeling all weepy n what not, but I have to just say how much Im enjoying these comments. Its kinda heartwarming to see the TVgasm community come around a new writer and give what for the most part is good constructive criticism and not just bashing. I just thought Id point that out, those notes will help the writer which will intern help the readers.

Ok vicodin is starting to wear off. got to go.

good job Treading, once you give less reporting and more commentary I think youll be a rockin out.

Ciao

carriec [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Mgasm - I think Jenn just seems skankier because she is trashier than a lot of previous Real World gals. They may seem a little classier but for my money, it's hard to out skank Kara from Chicago and pretty much all of the Vegas cast.

Rock Star [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Yankeesfan, good call. That all definitely makes sense.

This recap was okay. I did laugh out loud a few times, but I agree that it was too much of a play-by-play and you need to make fun of people more...or something. Less play by play, more ridicule.

Cdogg [TypeKey Profile Page]:

After reading The Hills recap, I was quite ready to just skip reading the Real World recap, and just trash whoever wrote it. But, alas, a funny recap from a new writer. Who knew that was possible? Bravo! I'm a tough cookie to please...you did a great job.

sassybella19 [TypeKey Profile Page]:

that recap was better than i expected. i literally had to cover my mouth (cause i'm at school) when i read the smiegal reference and stephens feelings for darnell. that was much better than The Hills recap. my only advice- dont be afraid to be mean and make fun of them more!!!!

roleepolee [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Did anyone else catch Stephen's famous "oh~, migod!" phrase? That's the gayest said in the most gayest way thing I ever heard a straight guy say. What am I saying, Stephen's a closet homosexual. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I hate Tyrie. Never liked him from the beginning. He clearly needs help, and I've said this before, he just a arrongant, and after seeing this episode, abusive psychopath. (At least he's more entertaining than Stephen though, I'll give him that...)

I was hopeing Chee-z would replace B-side but good job with the recap, treadingonme! Looking forward to next weeks. Don't be afraid to be a little more edgier.

roleepolee [TypeKey Profile Page]:

haha, i really need to review my post. I meant to say - that's the gayest thing said in the most gayest way I ever heard a straight guy say.

also-'He's just an' arrogant bastard..(about Tyrie.)

Chee-Z-TeeVee Addict [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I totally cracked up when Stephen was watching Darnell and Jenn from some bench in the hallway. He looked retarded, especially while gripping the lone bongo drum between his knees.

I kept hoping he would break into a rousing rendition of "Day-O". LOL!

Mgasm [TypeKey Profile Page]:

AC- you're so right! She used to date Tyrie's stunt double...
Carriec--True. Kara was pretty skanky. Was she skankier than Tami from L.A., though?

Miss Information [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I think he was just getting pissed off that jazaelle (sp?) would not shut up and since he probably was drinking it only made it worse. I don't think he realizes his strength when he pulled jaz like that, in hindsight after he watches this episode he would probably feel sorry/shitty.

Holy crap. Please tell me that this was written tongue in cheek, a nod to the Powers of Rationalization title? Way to reference all the elements of the cycle of domestic violence in two sentences. Impressive!

Volcat [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I think that you did a great job for your first time, Treadingonme. Like some of the others, I agree that there was a little too much play by play, but you'll find your groove soon enough.

Oh, and I love "The Smeigel of Slut" caption!

carriec [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Mgasm - I never thought Tami was a skank but those were back in the days when they didn't really show any of the cast members hooking up like they do now. I don't recall any night vision shots or people getting it on under blankets. Tami was no role model though. Some highlights - wiring her mouth shut to lose weight, trying to rig her appearance on Studs to make money, and of course the on camera abortion. Even though she worked for a safe sex clinic.
You know, I took a little refresher look at all the casts and I might have to go back on my previous statement. Jenn and Colie may be skankier than Trishelle and Brynn from Vegas. But Kara, she was skanktastic!

UglyAllie [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Um, seriously this episode was the worst example of the producers messing around with the actual order of things to create "drama." They seriously must think that a bunch of brain dead teenagers sit and watch this show, not the intelligent and wonderfully critical people who post on TVgasm.

Oh, and all of this talk about proofreading/editing....cut treadingonme some slack, people! Not everyone is perfectly articulate, and we should all be happy that someone stepped up to the plate to write a RW recap!

NYWord [TypeKey Profile Page]:

i still think tyrie is the most normal and likeable cast member, considering everyone else is really psychotically oversexed. he seems to be a victim of real world groupie syndrome more than anyone. we really have to wait to see what went down with this "altercation" cause i don't think it's going to pan out any more than the "nigger" episode or even brooke going psycho.

jazelle is annoying and didnt he choose her cause ashley said she wasnt going to be around for a relationship? now tyrie has to deal with his second choice realizing she was second choice, and i dont think he's really a wifebeater of any sort, and mtv is just playing that angle up for what else, ratings.

thanks for a good recap treadingonme. it defintely helps when the recap isnt trying to shove his neurosis down the reader's pipe..

ComeAlive [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Loved the recap! The screenshot captions were hilarious, esp. the 'Yay! Jenn's a whore!' one.

srh [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Im pretty sure we have all witnessed something close to these types of situations in our own lives...
The only difference and also the reason why we critisize these people is because they are on TV.
I personally feel the only people who act somewhat normal are Brooke, Alex and Stephen...
I know I have lied to get out of working,I also know I have ridiculed as stephen has, and Alex...well he just did what any guy would in the situation...
But the rest of them are CRAZY!
thats my 2 cents

ILuvTrashyTV [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Treadingonme,

I've been reading the Realworld/Hills recaps religously. I loved B-sides recaps. I've never posted before, but I just wanted you to know that yours is the first recap that ever made me laugh out loud. I thought it was good for a first one. Like Shasthebest, I actually stopped comparing it to B-Side's recaps (here and there) and enjoyed it for what it was.

ILuvTrashyTV [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Also, I thought it was hilarious that Tyrie just kept yelling more when Jazalle was like "Stop Yelling at me!". Yeah, yelling at someone always makes them listen. There had to be collective eye-rolling at that scene. He would scare me too.

swissms99 [TypeKey Profile Page]:

"From there we go to the airport with Stephen and Alex, because Stephen's friend Darnell is arriving today! They walk into the house and Darnell asks Stephen, "Is that your room right there?" Stephen said no, that's the phone room. "Oh, that's crazy," was Darnell's response. He also asked if the kitchen, the shower, and the toilet were Stephen's room. I'm not too sure this isn't actually Darnell's first trip inside of a house, so good for him for going outside of his comfort zone. "

Ok Treadingonme -I was thinking the sam damn thing! What is wrong with this guy?? Oh, he wants to hit with Jenn...there's the problem...

Oh, I cannot wait until next week's episode - Tyrie is a maniac! "Darc Kent" coming out!! Geez - he needs to control himself!

And JENN! I just LOVE how she rationalized everything...No way she could be more at fault than her boy toy. Interested to see if she gets it on with Darnell aka Hot Lips. :)

Cdogg [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Mgasm,

What ever happened to our party night celebration extravaganza in honor of B-Side at Don Antonio's?

jozeyg [TypeKey Profile Page]:

srh#42 --- you think Brooke is normal?? The girl is psycho. She blows up over the little things. You probably didn't see the little preview that was shown for a future episode where Brooke started screaming and trashing the guys' room just because Davis said she wasn't that pretty.(well from the way they edited it) i thought that was hilarious. crazy....but hilarious.
But yeah........i'm just saying that Brooke is far from normal, but fun to watch

Sevenmack [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I didn't see Tyrie as being anything other than reasonably angry. Jazelle got angry because a girl with whom he used to f--k came to his table, even though he didn't say anything to her. Then she gets mad at him, later refuses to listen to anything he said when he was actually being calm on the phone.

Should he have tried to keep her from leaving? Hell no. And he was wrong for grabbing her arm. He should have calmend himself down, said that he'll talk rationally and tell her if she left without talking it through, it was over. No one needs the drama.

But I can't blame him for being mad. He was in the right and still treated as if he was in the wrong.

By the way: How much of this 'big' and 'scary' thing with Tyrie has to do less with his height and bulk than with his race? Let's be real here: An angry Black man is considered the ultimate threat to most White folks, even if he has no intention of hurting anyone. You guys should look in your own hearts and ask how much of your own antipathy towards him has to do with the stereotype of the angry Black man with which you have grown up.

Chee-Z-TeeVee Addict [TypeKey Profile Page]:
You guys should look in your own hearts and ask how much of your own antipathy towards him has to do with the stereotype of the angry Black man with which you have grown up.

With all due respect Sevenmack, my reasons for disliking Tyrie have absolutely NOTHING to do with the fact that he is black. I am actually offended that I even need to justify my opinion about his behavior based the color of his skin.

The fact that Tyrie is physically imposing, and screams at people while violating their personal space and boundaries is reason enough, in my opinion, to conclude that he has a problem expressing frustration. He goes from calm and rational, to enraged in a matter of seconds.

Brooke is also not in control of her anger issues, and she is often inappropriate, however she is NOT physically imposing, and she does not "get in people's faces". She screams, and yells, and tantrums - but no one seems to think she's capable of any real violence.

People are scared of Tyrie. If this was an issue of prejudice, why was Jazelle so clearly scared and intimidated? Darnell and Steven were also concerned that Tyrie was getting out of control. In fact, Darnell was the first person to think intervention was necessary. Are they prejudiced against black men too?

Just for the record, I thought Wes and Nehemiah were equally out of line and aggressive with Rachel (RW: Austin). They are both physically huge, and aggressively violated her personal space - color played no part in that they were both hostile assholes.

I know there are racial and cultural issues and stereotypes that exist, and I know they are hurtful and ultimately damaging to all of us. I just don't think that is the case in how most of us are reacting to Tyrie's rages. If he were a white man I would feel exactly the same way - using physical force to intimidate and control people is just disturbing.

YankeesFan [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I really don't think this has anything to do with race. If there was an angry white guy (or any other race for that matter) with the same stature and temper as Tyrie, most women would be equally as scared.

Shasthebest [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Well Said Chee-Z-TeeVee Addict, the fact that Tyrie is a heavily built guy and has a booming voice is reason enough. And we're watching from a television, I can only imagine how scary it must have been for Jazelle in the bathroom and for everyone else.

I never understand how people can get so defensive when stererotypes are brought up to Judge a person, but in situations like this where no one has mentioned anything about race, it's always that person that comes out of nowhere with the race card.

Relax, beleive it or not, everything doesn't always boil down to the color of someones skin.

goodAg [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Yay, Treadingonme! Funny! I laughed outloud several times at what you wrote. Overall, I like your style. Nice amount of snark.

Agree that the scenes seemed out of synch. Didn't Jenn hook up with Alex twice? She made it sound like it only happened once.

Jazalle seems like a whiner to me - not because of the screaming match with Tyrie, but because of her behavior after seeing Big Head in the bar. She seems a little too insecure, but she also seems very young.

Missy23 [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I agree with the poster that said that race plays a part in the judgement of Tyrie. Davis is likely to harm someone both physically and emotionally. Davis tried to get provoke Tyrie to hit him, and Tyrie refused. Even though Davis got into his face (and Colie's too). Yet no one would call Davis scary. Tyrie's bark is much worse than his bite; he is like a big teddy bear. I don't think that Tyrie should have yelled at his girlfriend like that, but it happens. People need to examine why Tyrie is so "scary".
