Whoa. Just when we thought that the biggest scandal to hit Ladder 62 this season was going to be Probie's penchant for cuddle breaks with his Lumberjack roommate, Rescue Me hits us with an ending, that has already caused some stirring in LAST week's comments page. Personally, I'm a little torn about what to actually call Tommy and Janet's little meeting at the end of the episode, but we'll get to that a little bit later. The Probie gaywatch continues to take suprising ups and, umm, downs, while Sean came out of the closet of his own making, proclaiming his love for CrazyTaty to Tommy. Throw in some crazy-pill popping Sheila and a Girl Gone Wild flashing her TaTas at the Chief with a dash of Al Sharpton and a heaping load of the return of Lovable Lou, and you had a solid hour of television on your hands.
The boys are on their way to a call to help a man with chest pains, and Probie is shocked that there is $1,200 in the smoking kitty. I am just shocked that Probe can count money. Tommy begs him to call the kitty a can, and once again he is ignored. Probie then enters even more dangerous waters by asking him if he's spoken to Johnny, Tommy's brother who was the victim of a Tommy hate-crime once he found out he had been sleeping with his ex-wife Janet. Tommy again plays the Irish stereotype card and says that's just how they roll in the Gavin family. Well I understand, in my family we eat our feelings, in the Gavin family they beat their feelings. Who am I to judge?
Franco and his eagle eyes spot an overturned school bus just up the road and tells them to stop the fire truck. The guys run out to the bus and ignore the other call; there is another truck being rerouted there. They try to get the kids in the school bus out through the back Emergency Door, which isn't opening. Someone should probably call in a SHAME ON YOU on the bus people. I think Connie Chung is available to cover the story.
Tommy grabs Probie and they get into the bus from one of the windows and start helping the kids get out, but there's one unlucky little rugrat stuck under a seat. We're gonna need the saw! Tommy starts to saw the girl out, but Lou, having one of his few lucid moments of late, notices that the bus is pouring out gasoline. He tells Tommy to stop sawing, while Franco runs over to get some other non-spark inducing tool. Tommy, ever the rebel, continues to saw the girl out. We then see Franco running over to the truck to get the alterna-tool and boom the bus goes up in flames.
I guess Tommy should've just waited. Now, he and the little girl are dead. PSYCH! They're totally fine, Franco just should've gotten his tool out fast enough. And to quote the amazing Michael Scott: "That's what she said."

This was a great episode!
I totally missed Janet ohhing and ahhing, but it was hard for me to watch....so maybe I looked away.
But how she reacted afterward was a enough to show her consent. And well, yes I agree with the whole "25 years of sex life" theory. But for me, to see my HERO ( I love Tommy Gavin, the bad boy cartoon face that he is in all his glory. My husband can't decide to be jealous or not! Haha)
Wierd.
I am so glad Lou is still alive too! And he talked to someone.....now he can start getting better. Yay!
Probie is so totally gay! It's just fun because he is so stupid and there are actually people that stupid out there!
Love it!
I have to admit I do not share the same feelings for Tatum or crazy tatty whatever you call her. As a character she is so so.
Thanks for the great recap!!!!!!!!

I have a feeling Janet just conceived the next "heir to the Gavin throne."
Great recap!

Random thoughts/oneliners
Explosion line: Hey where were you? You missed the explosion
Stopping the truck: Why there a broad?
Sheila mentioning to Tommy he should be nicer to black people? The same Sheila who was dropping "chink" in the Chinese restaurant for pops birthday?
I forsee Alicia trying to get Franco's daughter somehow, bad idea to drop that little bit of info to a older childless woman who loves kids.
CrazyT on Sean: He's like a box of dumb rocks and not the good kind either.

Denis Leary is a genius on so many levels: he gets to write himself a kick-ass character who gets to have rough and/or kinky and/or violent sex with every female who crosses the show. Throw in the fact that he gets loads of money and awards to do it. Yeah, Denis has it all figured out.
I was worried about Lou by the buzzing third rail. Not that he would commit suicide on it, but by deciding not to and then accidentally stumbling against it. I, too, am glad that he confided in Tommy and is now pedaling in the right direction.
One final thought: Tommy Gavin reminds me of a hyper terrier that will hump anything in the yard: another dog, the cat, the garden gnome, whatever. If it's got a vag, an orifice, hell, even a papercut, Tommy'll have a poke at it.

Excellent recap...but I just have to tell you that Franco's daughter's name is Keela, not Kayla. Hope you don't mind an editorial comment.

I watched Rescue Me again last night and noticed that Lou tells the homeless guy to, "Hake a tike," instead of take a hike when he first sees him down by the third rail. Too funny.

I haven't had a chance to catch an episode of this show yet, but I'll be sure to...they just filmed an episode in my Harlem apartment building today. They used two apartments on the first floor. I wasn't home to watch but I'm curious to see what footage they got from the old lady's place...she's got like 3 rat looking dogs and the plastic still on her furniture from like 1950 lol

Umnata, I agree this was just a very hot grudgef-ck, not rape, although when the scene got started I was appalled at where it appeared to be heading. These two, in addition to hating each other, are also obviously still hot for each other.
The scene w/ probie Mike and his roomate was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time. I loved watching these guys rationalize how what they're doing doesn't make them gay. Makes me nostalgic for the days of Bill & Monica. If you're horny enough I guess you can rationalize anything. This show keeps getting better and better, and if it isn't nominated for an Emmy (along with The Shield), it will be a complete disgrace.

I am finally all caught up on Rescue Me, just in time for tonight's show. You are the best recapper ever! Since I didn't really see last week's episode I can't judge that last scene. Sounds a little questionable, or at the very least not a healthy relationship.

Yup, it did start out as a hatefuck and it stayed that way for Tommy, but it went from rape to nostalgia for Janet. Either way, no matter how it turned out, it was rape.
Probie's not smart enough to realize that, pitcher or catcher, if you enjoy sex with another male, you're gay.
I agree that Janet's going to show pregnant real soon. Sheila's a loon, but a sexy one. Mrs. Thurmody's just kinky. Tommy is, indeed, like a puppy with a hard on. Never met a gal he didn't want to fuck.
