Rock Is Like A Box Of Chocolates

jason80806.JPGAm I just crazy, or at end of last week's episode of Rock Star: Supernova didn't the band say that this week the rockers would each be given a new Supernova tune to write lyrics for? Hold on, let me check: no, I'm not crazy. They said it. But for some strange reason, they seem to have forgotten they said it. Still, when you consider their collective partying history, I guess it's not that strange that they forgot it. At this point in their careers, we should just be glad they remember to show up for the tapings every week.

And to wear pants.

Anyway, for whatever reason, we didn't get to hear any new Supernova songs this week. Instead, we got the usual assortment of songs: some good, some bad, and some Zayra.

Brooke welcomes us to the show, and introduces Tommy as "Mr. Hell Yeah!" I know it's been a while since I did any RAW recaps, but wasn't "Hell Yeah!" Stone Cold Steve Austin's catchphrase? What's next? Will TheDave start ending his segment by asking if we can smell what TheDave is cooking?

I hope not, because I have a feeling it would smell like children.

It wouldn't be a proper recap without a weather advisory.

Before we get to tonight's performances, Brooke gives us a look at what happened in the mansion over the past week. Magni received a special delivery from Iceland in the form of his wife and child. At least I think it's his wife. But since the producers never say for certain, we'll just say Magni receives a special visit from his baby mama and baby baby.

Five rockers and a baby.

The rockers are seen working on their songs for this week. Except for Zayra, who's shown working on her wardrobe. "What I wear onstage, I do it more for myself," she tells us. "I want to see excitement, I want to see fantasy." Which is good, because that's exactly what her dreams of being the lead singer for Supernova are: fantasy. "I want to wow myself," she continues. "And if people get wowed by it, perfect." Is it just me, or is this segment starting to sound very pornish? The only thing missing is a pizza delivery guy and a "boom-chicka-bow-wow" soundtrack.

Lukas says that this week he's going to show a different side of his voice: intelligible. Actually, he says more heartfelt and not as angry. But I'd settle for intelligible.

Dilana oversees the song selection process. First up for bid: "Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who, with Gilby on guitar. Toby says he thought about going for it, but then started to worry that performing with Gilby might backfire on him. Which kind of goes contrary to the whole point of the show, TOBY! Amazingly, nobody wants to perform with Gilby. Maybe they're afraid that Jill will hump their leg? Dilana asks the group four times if anyone besides her wants the song, and they all say "no". You know TheDave is not going to be happy with their collective lack of testicles.

Josh says it's not always a good thing to jump on the band's songs, citing Patrice's position in the bottom three following her performance with Tommy Lee. The big difference there, however, is that Patrice is Patrice.

Time for this week's shameless-yet-awkward product promotion, as Dilana downloads her song on V-Cast, then gets a special V-Cast message from Gilby on her V-Cast phone. What are the odds? All that mentioning of "V" reminds me of that old series V, about aliens who look like humans but are actually mice-chugging reptiles. Dilana is totally a mouse-chugger.

guitarcam80806.JPG
Guitar-cam!

Remember when I said TheDave was not going to be happy? Yeah, I was wrong. Because TheDave is worse than not happy; he is downright pissed! He can't believe that nobody fought for the song. "What the hell is wrong with you guys?" he asks. "You have an opportunity to play a song with Gilby Clark, guitar player for Supernova, the very band you're auditioning for... After what we said to you last week about nobody jumping in to play with Tommy, and nobody wanted this song except Dilana? If it were up to me, and you guys are lucky it's not, if it were up to me, Dilana would win this thing right now!"

I love the summer of Copygodd natural disasters. SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY! Steer clear of all brooks!

copygodd, your recaps really make me laugh though I can't bring myself to watch the show. I loved the t-shirt and please keep using that picture of TheDave- never gets old.
"Especially on my new Sharp AQUOS HDTV." Hoping for some endorsement money?

Copygodd- the rockstar website has them performing all the supernova songs they wrote. You have to watch Dilana's song, it's really bad!

Copygodd, I am here to worship at your alter. One problem this season is they don't tie in the website reality episode to the CBS broadcast. That would explain why everyone was left wondering where the mystical Supernova tracks went. Sad to say there is no way Dilana is going to win. Check it out and see. Her songwriting performance for the Supernova track is horrifying. When you are left trying to find a word that rhymes with "thong", you may want to think about starting over.

I'm not sure if it's just because I really like the Talking Heads, but I thought Toby's performance was really good tonight. And I usually find him pretty "meh". I also enjoyed Lukas' song as well, what can I say, might be that I want to support a fellow Canuck, but that little hobbit has really grown on me. Behind the cocky facade, he seems like he might be a fairly down-to-earth guy. But I reserve the right to change my opinion upon seeing future episodes...

Also, the t-shirt was gold, Jerry, gold! I laughed out loud at that one.

I'll be visiting Denver in about a month . . . after reading your recaps I realize I better bring my rain boots, foul weather slicker and possibly a rowboat.

Oh. My.
I just watched the webisode, Dilana's song- it's just... so, Spinal Tap. I expected her to throw in "Working on a Sex Farm" somewhere. Ryan's was pretty good though.

I don't think that Patrice doesn't have charisma and presence, she is just way too happy during all of her songs. She's always got that shit eatting grin on her face no matter what the lyrics are. She reminds me of Sheryl Crow.

Is it just me or does Jill look like Chris Katton (spelling?) from SNL fame when she smiles? She needs to go.

Lukas was great. I just love when he does that Mick Jagger thing to his face - and goes into that epeletic fit move. I don't know what my thing is with him. I'm one sick puppy. I'm pretty sure he is going to win it though. Either that or he is doing what Phil did - get publicity for his band back in Canada. He definitely redeemed himself from last week's performance - he even had me go....oooh that's unfortunate.

America is unfortunate enough that Zayra will probably end up safe again - although I for one can't stand her fingers-down-the-chalkboard screeching (even though this week wasn't AS bad as usual) or her gold lame gyrations. If she isn't in the bottom 3, I expect it will be Josh or Dilana (gasp). I was unwowed by both of them.....even Toby's megaphone moment was better IMO.....

i have become a tvgasm junkie....'cause of course tv isn't enough of an addiction, now you get tvgasm too! About Rockstar: I don't know about you all but in Canada we get a 1/2 hour episode on Monday's showing what happened at the house after the show, song selection and "challenges" for the rockers. The Supernova songwriting "challenge" was aired on Monday and I have to say Dilana left me flabbergasted. She sucked more than Dave Navarro.(sorry was that out loud?) The hobbit however was impressive....I bet we are led on a journey for the ring by Supernova. I love that Z is absolutely insane but my ears have threated to walk off if I make them listen to her anymore. Although if they don't get rid of her this week I put $1,000,000 on her to beat the hobbit. Over all though I thought that this weeks show was the best so far performance wise. Except for Patrice...I always forget about her, which says alot. (OOOH WAIT!!!In a perfect world tonight will be a double elimination...Patrice and Z)(I know it's not BB but a girl can dream)

Seems I was too tired to see the last 3, but I'mcurious now, can't imagine liking lukas, but alas . . .

Must go to site and hear songs, I'm bracing for some lame.

Saw part of the live blog, such fun, and wondered, did everyone think Jill was attempting a stage dive, but got punked, or do you think she intended to jump that . . . coz it looked painful to me to land that hard . . .

As to Miss Z, perhaps mute will help those among us who can't listen . . . .but you can still watch!

boo-hoo, this lame ass computer never plays anything . . . I can't hear those songs, it doesn't do anything, any chance anyone can do something hear we can snark upon.

Have to say, I'm surprised that Dilana sucked, but I can't tell till I hear it . . . what will I do . . .

I don't know why but everytime I see the Z-Screecher I hear the music from Ringling Bros. & Barnum & Bailey® Circus...

CG - where's the cooter laser shot? Double L so looks forward to her lasers!

Also, I thought it was telling that no one wanted to perform with anti-leg hump gilby! Is it in support of Jill? Are they straining for interactive things they can do that don't involve domination!? How interesting that Storm is going to spank them, but Jill can't hump . . . actually, I would like to see her spank them all very much, esp for being so lame--actually, I don't think TLee has any problems with the blondes or the sexuality, and if Storm can't find a whip, I'm sure he can lend some flogging anatomy (OMG! I"m grossing myself out . . . )

Loo Author Profile Page:

Dilana, Jill, and Storm rocked, but Lukas was the surprise of the evening. (I think the judges were way too easy on the rest of the guys, but we all know they want a young man.)

Zayra's Mad Hatter costume and spider eyelashes were utterly fabulous, in the Lewis Carroll/David Bowie tradition. No, she's not a strong vocalist, and her attitude is very defensive, but I think this woman has the potential to be more than this program's laughingstock. I'll be sorry to see her go.

Really, Loo? I find her entertaining, but it's more in a william hung way, which isn't exactly a laughing stock . . . I think their personal belief in themselves, and utter unawareness of their limitations is part of what makes them endearing--Z's a lot hotter though, I could see her doing the circut of Talk shows, etc, and frankly, if Paris Hilton can do a song, maybe Miss Z could . . .

Jill's jump was totally planned in advance. I don't care if Dilana wins it anymore, so long as she gives us more of the first two weeks and less of the last four. Almost everybody, really, has been less impressive as the season drags on. I am getting all meh about this show.

To be "fair," Oompalukas actually seems to be improving, at least from last week. I still would rather see his head on a pike, though.

Memememe Author Profile Page:

lol@ Lukas. "Song that you overthink, turn out to be overthought." thanks for that, dude. Dilana's is really terrible, you guys are right.

I actually liked Zayra's performance last night. When you're doing early Bowie, you can pretty much do anything. And she (for once) sang the song. It started out iffy, but by the end I was impressed.

My favorite of the night was Toby. I've decided I like Toby.

thx all.

i couldn't get the webisode to play either. so i'll just take y'all's word for it that dilana blew. maybe she needs more brains.

wink: oompahlukas? that's awesome! i believe i'm going to steal it.

zevonia: some endorsement cash would be great. although i only mentioned it because i'm giddy like a schoolgirl over my newest toy. it took almost two years of begging, but the wife finally relented and let me buy one. yay wife!

hb: unfortunately, jeff crank did win. even more unfortunately, his name is a very apt description.

zoobabe Author Profile Page:

I wasn't impressed by Storm this week, but I liked Magni, Lukas and Dilana. They really should be trying to play with the band members if they want to sing for them in the end. As for Z, I was impressed with the outfit but nothing else.

cgodd- very funny t-shirt (and recap). My moderator love might have to come 'round your way sooner. You ARE funnier than infected pustules!

zevonia Author Profile Page:

oooh copygodd, I want to see you giddy as a school girl. I'll bet that's fun. And yay for your wife, too. I'll bet she puts up with a lot.
