It's elimination time once again on America's "number once dance show" (according to Nigel - "suck it ABDC!")... it's So You Think You Can Dance!
The opening number is to "The Dance" by Charlotte Martin. It definitely looks a little freaky... like I wouldn't want to meet these people on the street - it looks like...

A bunch of "Cirque du Soleil" freaks lead by Slash from Guns n' Roses.
If the point of the routine was to completely transform the cast then it definitely worked. I could barely recognize people, aside from Mark who was sort of the "ring leader", aka Slash. And there was lots of yelling and banging of sticks. Seems like aggression is the flavor of the evening.
There wasn't much to it but it was entertaining and something different. I love how they incorporated our sassy host, Cat, who just strut out through the cast like their Queen bee.
When the camera pans back to the audience I totally get a chuckle out of thinking what these girls are told before the show starts...

"If just one of you bitches crosses this line you will be shot down! Understand?!?! And you in the yellow - suck it in! This is "SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE" not "Biggest Loser"!! TOE THE LINE BITCHES!"
And what's up with Cat's outfit?! They just seem to get more and more outlandish...

Tonight she dressed in honor of Jessica - "The Little Mermaid".
Apparently Mia Michaels was the choreographer for the opening number. Not surprising - although I thought it could've been Wade Robson as well. Spastic movement is usually his realm.
The judges from the night before are back - Adam, Mary and a leather-daddy Nigel. I wonder - what is the reasoning behind him wearing an ugly suit or a leather jacket. Is elimination night "casual night"?
The first three couples come out: Thayne & Chelsea, Joshua & Katee and Mark & Chelsi. Thayne and Chelsea are fucked since the other 2 couples totally rocked their routines. And they're up first. There are flashbacks to Adam calling them "out of their element" and Mary doing her 40 minute lecture on the fall of their Tamale Train ride.
Of course - Cat announces them as the first couple in the bottom three. Mary comments that it was a difficult dance to learn and --- hold up ---

Although I make fun of Mary - can I just get a "Hollah!" that she changes her hair up for every episode? Sure - it might be a complete and total train wreck sometimes - but she keeps it lively. She's a woman-about-town our Mary is!
Mary keeps it positive and reminds them they'll be taking into account ALL of their dances before ultimately kicking their ass to the curb.
Up next - Joshua and Katee. Last night Joshua was wearing pants so tight you could tell what religion he was. Kudos to him for having an ass that could rock them though. If it was me I could have blinded the audience with spandex shrapnel.
They're coming fresh off their first-class trip on Mary's "Hot Tamale Train to Hades". BTW - did anyone else think it was funny when Joshua gave his thoughts on when he found out he was doing the Samba - "Time to do your solo!" that he sounded exactly like Edith from "All in the Family"?! "But Ahhhchie - I don't waaaannna do the saaaaamba! Oh!"
Cat announces that Katee and Joshua are SAFE! Yeah! Next up - Mark and Chelsi - who (I think) had the best performance. The judges did too - which was clear since they all hemorrhaged with enthusiasm. Seriously - I think production is going to have to start scotch-guarding Mary's swivel-chair.
Cat opens the envelope-of-fate and... America loves them too! SAFE! They're totally gonna be in the last 3 couples unless they royally fuck up. Mark and Chelsi go apeshit and Cat tells them about 6 times "Well done... leave the stage...Great job... leave the stage." They should really give Cat a fiery cowpoke for these times.
The next three couples are up and we start with "Twitchington". Last night they did a "jail break" hip-hop number. It was so good Mary "passed down an old Murphy ancient proverb" which was screaming. It's good to know stupidity runs through her bloodline. I can just see her ancestors screaming when fire was discovered, screaming at the beheading of Anne Boleyn, screaming at the signing of the Declaration of Independence or screaming when the bedazzler was invented.

Wow! Thanks "yuds"! Much appreciated! Keep reading and pass it on to friends! You made my day. I plan on printing your comment out and putting it on my mother's fridge. That'll show her. And she thinks I'm wasting my college education. HA HA!

Yes. Another FINE recap; and a testament to our Amercian education system.
I was okay with Chris leaving. I really liked Chelsea, but all three of the women were great, so it was a toss-up. I felt Chelsea didn't show her best the last two weeks (partly due to bad wardrobe and unlucky dance picks, though).
I still wish they'd let them all stay longer before we had to eliminate them.
Twitch and Joshua deliver every week, and remain my picks to make the finals.
And... just show your mom that fat TVgasm paycheck; THEN see who is nagging you and climbing into her oven...

Poor Comfort, first she had gay now she has gayer. Maybe she'll Matt as her partner eventually and have gayest.

Another great recap, Bbitz!
I was not sad about Vanilla going home, the dude had zero personality...
umm... I'm on the fence about Chelsea. I think she's a better all around dancer than Comfort, I just think she was very unlucky with the dances they picked... I think, in this case, personality won over technicality again...
Mark and Chelsea H. are still my faves, I hope Jess gets booted next, she just annoys the sh*t out of me :)
LOL at the audience on the line screen shot! nice one :D
Looking forward to your next recap!

What? You think Matt is the most flamboyant of those 3? I'd say Chris for sure...
Also, I'm kinda ready for Gev and Courtney to leave. I don't like either one of them. Chelsie leaving was pretty sad, I really like her, but at this point since they've gotten rid of Susie, I like everyone left (besides Courtney and Gev, of course) so the rest of the season is going to be so sad! At least, as sad as I can get about a dancers on a show in a country I don't live in...
Oh, I also wouldn't be particularly broken up if Kourtni or Matt left, although I guess they both seem nice...

Oh, and as nice as it was to see Dominic and Hok and...someone I don't know back on the stage, I was really waiting for the dancing to start at any point during that performance...

Great recap bBitz!! I had no probs with Vanilla hitting the road but I did like Chelsea and maybe I just liked her hair the most (she has the cutest bangs!).
And I really like Kourtni despite the ridonkulous spelling and I like her even more for dancing to Ani DiFranco (LOVE her and it took me back to my college days)...but for some reason the collective America does not like her...come on girl!
Twitchington are still my favorite but I like pretty much everybody except "The Little Mermaid" girl but I can't figure out why...hmmm.
Oh, and Cat's dress was HORRIBLE...it looked like someone glued an orgami'd napkin to the top of her dress...FUGALICIOUS!

Love your recaps, especially the caption comments! Oh, when we all saw Cat come out in that outfit, we thought, did she put that dress on upside down?? And then the kids all yelled, "Turn your dress over" every time they saw her!
Cat really enjoyed standing next to Jordan, for once she didn't tower over everyone!

Ugh! Bbitz I love, love, LOVE reading your recaps ... But dancers do NOT call turns "spins." Other than that, you are beyond awesome and I look forward to reading your recaps because SYTYCD is one of my favorite shows ever! Keep up the sassy commentary!
P.S. Comfort totally sucks and needs to leave NOW!

TURNS NOT SPINS! I'll never get it wrong again! My apologies - unfortunately the only dance education I have is 1 semester of "Dancing with the Stars" and every semester of "SYTYCD"! Thanks for the schooling Mama J! :)

Is it possible Cat was wearing a shower curtain?
14 of 16 | Posted by cattyfan | Posted on July 2, 2008 8:28 AM
I agree cattyfan! I think she must've spilled something on her first dress and right before they went live someone was like "Here - just wear this shower curtain! It looks slimming and perfect for when the dancers get their sweaty bodies all over you!"

I liked how Jason said his pants were so tight you could see his exact change. And they WERE. awesome. He's my new fave.
I hope Comfort goes next week. I don't know what it is that I don't like about her. Maybe it's the schtreet vibe she gave off in the beginning, all the while her secret beauty pageant past and years of dance classes were waiting to be revealed.
