Next up is Kayla. Hooooooo-ly Crap is she a hot mess or what? She's dancing to "Stupid" by Sarah McLachlan, which is perfect, since I think this solo is stupid. She basically spends the entire thirty seconds with at lest one of her legs up in the air. Kicking, leaping, kicking again.

When not kicking or leaping......flailing
I know the judges and choreographers all think she's brilliant, but she chokes BIG TIME every time she needs to do a solo. Is that ever going to come into play? Kupono is next, and he's no better than his partner.

Yep. It's just that exciting. Even the few actual moves, a jete and a couple of chaine turns, are WEAK. This is the second solo from Kupono that has sucked rotten eggs. This guy cannot choreograph a decent solo to save his life, and it makes me wonder who did his choreography for the auditions. I don't remember him being this weak. NEXT!

Holy Guacamole, Gasmi! Jeanine has officially become my favorite girl this season. She rocked this solo, putting together a great combination of musicality, strength, and tricks. I absolutely loved this. If they send her home I will personally beat the crap out of Nigel.
Last, but not least, is Phillip.

I'm completely biased. I love what Phillip does when he's in his own style, so I loved his solo. It was a nice reminder of why we (I) like him so much. That said, I think we're going to keep seeing him in the bottom because he doesn't seem to be able to do anything else. Next week or the week after I'll think he'll be gone for sure.
So while the judges stick their heads up their asses even further than they already are deliberate, we get to suffer through yet another "musical" guest star. But wait! This time it's someone I actually like! It's Kelly Clarkson. Well, at least we know the girl can sing.

And eat
I'm kidding Kelly! I actually really like her. I still remember how excited I was when she won the first American Idol. It's been all downhill since then. I still protest the inclusion of singers instead of dancers, but at least this time they had someone good. Except for when she was flat. But I still want more dancing instead. She didn't even have backup dancers. That at least should be a requirement.
Results time. Ladies first. Nigel tells us they are unanimous. Jeanine, please step forward. Nigel says it can be very difficult when dancing with someone as unique as Phillip because you can often take the back seat to them in terms of people talking about you. Tonight she has danced the strongest solo of the evening. Brilliant. He sends her off to sit down and relax. I love that she makes a point to stop and give Phillip a hug before leaving the stage.

Loving this girl!
Kayla, please step forward. Nigel says that without question she is one of the judges' and choreographers' favorites. Really? I hadn't noticed. But he felt her solo was not great. She was static and it felt like she was throwing in a lot of kicks (because she was). He didn't feel that she was dancing form the heart. Please step back.
Karla, please step forward. He thinks she's a very very good dancer, but basically, he just doesn't want to bone her, so they're saying good-bye to her this evening.

Saw that one coming.
You know, that is such a load of crap. I'm not a huge fan of Karla, but she out danced Kayla tonight by a mile. What a bunch of horse shit. My outrage is not helped by the fact that Mia practically said Kayla was safe BEFORE SHE EVEN DANCED!!!
We get Karla's good-bye montage and Cat asks her what she's going to remember the most. Probably getting the shaft for the judges' pet! She says she'll remember the contemporary piece, and all the friends she's made.
Time for the guys. They are unanimous again. Phillip, please step forward. Nigel says there's no denying that Phillip is unique and superb at what he does. That said, they thought his solo was a little desperate and overworked tonight. I disagree. They all feel that he still has an awful lot of hard work to do to manage the other genres of dance week after week. So rest up buttercup because you're going through to next week. No one was surprised by that, were you?

I was happy with the girls descision, but the guys one was more full of crap than Kupono's solo. I like him during the performance shows, but he for sure should have gone this week. Kayla staying was a good choice IMO. I think she has been great enough in the routines that she deserves to at least make the tour.
Hoping for the dismissal of Caitlin and Kupono next week, but I'll be happy as long as Phillip, Jeannine, Brandon, and Janette survive. (emphasis on the Phillip and Jeanine surviving)

PottyMouth: I can't believe you didn't like the opening number!! I thought the blocking moved well and the choreography matched the power and fun of the song. It made me want to get up and dance. No, it wasn't as spicy as last week's number, but I was completely entertained. Plus, it was a nice, subtle tribute to MJ.
And on another note, I too was so happy that people were into the pas de deux. Do I think it was a total set up to have Melissa and Ade perform it? Of course. But I didn't even care because watching ballerinas en pointe almost always brings tears to my eyes. I am SO glad the producers are incorporating the basis for ALL dance on the show. What took them so long?!

Okay...we've had classical ballet. Now let's see who can tap dance. (I took tap for more than a dozen years, then taught it for a while. Not as easy as it looks - if done well.)

Great recap for a highly predictable show this week. There was no doubt in my mind who was going home this week. It was probably deserved (and I really like Vitolio), but they were so set up for failure this week. The only surprise was that Philip and Jeanine were in the bottom two instead of Caitlin and Jason. And the look on Philip's face when that was announced was so feakin' patronizing - I am really over him. He is an amazing dancer (in his style) but he acts it up for the camera so much it is driving me crazy. That said - what dance will he possibly get this week to keep him around to make the top 10, you have to think Nigel is counting on it or else the tour is going to be composed of nothing but contemporary dancers.
I love all the video clips of previous dances. I have been trying to look some up on youtube but a lot have been taken down (copyright crap). I wish they would make a compilation DVD of the best dances from over the years.

Great recap, PottyMouth! I love Cat and her bizarre wardrobe choices. She's so happy and bright and "Oh look, she's skinned a disco ball and is wearing it as a dress! A very small disco ball. Nice gams!" but that's OK b/c she's so cute for an Amazonian blond. (She acts so cutesy you'd think she's four foot tall; then some huge guys stands next to here and she dwarfs him.)
Kupono leaves me totally cold He's hot, no doubt -- but touching yourself while dancing to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was a little too in-the-bedroom for me. How is his masturbatory homage to Hawaii preferred over Vittolo's leaps? Sure, they weren't flashy, but Kuporno's solo would make a nice sleepaid. Grr. Poor Vittolo/Karla were doomed as soon as they drew the foxtrot. That was the judges way of saying, "just leave already."

Note to whoever is editing the group routine footage: stop changing the camera angle every .00000000012th of a second. The average attention span is what? 5 seconds? At least give us that. I think I actually liked the group routine, but I’m not positive because I couldn’t focus on anything long enough to tell.
It’s no surprise that Vitolio and Karla were cut considering who was in the bottom this week, but I was hoping going into the results show that Caitlin’s time had finally come. I still don’t really have a favorite, but I do have a passionate, all-consuming desire to see Caitlin leave. If there’s any justice in the world she won’t make top ten. If she survives next week I may be a candidate for blood pressure medication.
Endless praise to you PottyMouth for adding a touch of Monica at just the right moment. I think I finally understand your Hugh obsession - pictures can be so cathartic.

Thank you once again for the clip of Danny dancing. My heart fills with joy when watching him perform.

Excellent recap. I was kinda hoping they would buck up and let Kuopono go after that ridiculous solo, but I can't say I'm surprised he left. I love Melissa, but Jeanine is defninitely growing on me. Def pulling for Evan for the guys, although he hasn't been spectacular in the pairs numbers. I just love watching him dance in his style.
Cat rules, btw. Cat for president!

I know that this is ultimatly a popularity contest (America's FAVORITE dancer versus the BEST one), but the viewers normally get it right. With that said, PHILLIP HAS GOT TO GO!!! He is amazing at what he does, but has so far not shown me that he can do much more beyond that. People keeping him simply because they like him is only going to cause a better, more deserving, dancer to get cut. I figured the judges would give him a pass the first time he made it to the bottom 3...next time, SEND HIM HOME!!!

YEAH Cat for President!! So she's goofy and she makes odd remarks but she is the most likable host of a reality show I've ever seen. Well, she ranks up there with Tom Bergeron. I love her daring sartorial choices, her crazy hair pieces and her obsession with sweaty men. But she seems genuine and really cares for the contestants. She is also good for a random aside. Like when Nigel said Caitlin looked like a dancing condom, Cat quiped "Safety first!" Ryan Seacrest couldn't make something like that sound natural if he made it up himself.
GOOOO Cat! And if she can't be president at least give woman an Emmy. Sorry I have a MAYJAH girl crush on Cat Deely.
PS: No one is really blowing me away this year as far as the dancers. I agree they are prob keeping Phillip so he can go on tour. I guess...Janette or Jeanine for the win.

tv freak: Kupono’s solo wasn’t full of crap; it was a big poop pile on the stage! ;) I’d like to see him go home soon.
mama j: It just didn’t really do it for me. It was better than most of Tyce’s stuff on this show, but I just wasn’t feeling it.
cattyfan: We won’t see that unless Ryan makes it next season. We might not even see it then, but I’m really hoping. I’m not a tapper myself, but my sister was, and I have great respect for those that do it well.
brat: I was really surprised as well that Jason and Caitlin didn’t end up in the bottom. Not because they deserved to be, because this week I don’t think they did, but because they don’t seem to have a huge fan base.
jennaboa: I completely agree about Kupono. It was so obvious who was going home as soon as the bottom three were announced.
ohhhyeah: I’m so glad you get my addiction to Hugh! Pictures ARE cathartic, now all I need is the real thing showing up at my door one day! Yes, I lead a rich fantasy life. :P
natpatben: Mine too.
themiki: I love Evan too, and I really hope he starts to shine this week because he could be in trouble otherwise. Cat for President? Here! Here!
sassygrl72: I think you’ll get what you want soon. IF Phillip makes it through this week, I think he’ll go next week.
Yanksfan24: No! Not Janette for the win! That girl just rubs me the wrong way. I have a feeling we may see a whole different side to her once she’s given some tough criticism.
Tonight’s the night! Two dances a piece this time FOR SURE, right? I swear if they do six dances in two hours you all will hear the screams of frustration from where you are.
SWAK, PottyMouth

Thought Kup should have gone home, based on the solos.
Between her personality and her accent, I find Kat adorable.
Liked the opening #.
Great recap.

its obvious the voters don't like Kayla. she doesnt stand a chance at winning. Sorry sister!

Pottymouth...I agree we probably won't see tap until Ryan is on...and I would like to know why? If a hiphopper has to learn contemporary, and a salsa dancer has to waltz, why not make them all learn to tap sometime...or all try to learn classical ballet (not just an already trained classical dancer and a contemporary dancer.) Let's see the dancers REALLY learn a new style.

I completely agree, cattyfan. For those of them that have trained for years I'd think they've taken some tap over the years. Same goes for ballet. I'd love to see what would happen with genres.

LOL--I said the same thing the minute Cat walked out. Her smeared eyeliner and ill-fitting dress just completed her "walk of shame" look.
