So You Think You Can Dance: Vegas, (Cry) Baby

This week on So You Think You Can Dance (dance.........dance) everyone seems to be PMSing or something. Seriously, the estrogen levels must be off the charts because every other person is FUCKING CRYING!!!!!!!!! So get your hankies and your life vests ready and let's see if we can swim on over to the other side of this episode.

Too bad he didn't fucking drown himself

Cat gives us a brief recap of the first part of Vegas week. In a nutshell, some people got cut, some people didn't. Some of those that didn't, will. Oh! And by the way? Season six is going to blow season five out of the water.

SYTYCD20091014a

Ya don't say?

We pick up at 5pm on day two of Vegas week. Only seventy seven dancers are left, and it's time for Drill Sargent Gibson. Wow. She is a giant bitch. We see clips of her telling the dancers they are messy and asking them why they are looking at the ground (prolly cause they're afraid to make eye contact with her).

SYTYCD20091014b

You eyeballin' me boy?

Iveta says she's like a teacher in Russia (HAHA!), and some dud gets singled out for talking thanks to a camera man that didn't pan away fast enough. One of the guys asks a legitimate question about the routine and she goes OFF

SYTYCD20091014c

I will gouge your eyes out and skull fuck you!

In the first group to perform for the judges is Karen Hauer, one of the husband and wife ballroom teams (aka NOT the face licker). She says her brain hurts and she can't think and she's about to start crying. She wants this so bad.

SYTYCD20091014d

She tries, but she's just okay with this one. I gotta say that this entire group (what we can actually see of it anyway) was not that impressive to me, but I don't recognize anyone else in there, so I'm not too upset by that. Karen and her partner are through, but Nigel gives her the so-so hand motion thingy, so it looks like her outfit may have helped her there.

In the next group is her husband, Matthew, and boy does he suck donkey balls trying to do this routine. SO BAD.

SYTYCD20091014e

You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around......

Nigel tells him that as a Latin dancer, he was expecting more fire from him. CUT. But thanks for trying so hard! Outside he consoles his wife who was standing in the auditorium while his group was dancing but didn't know he got cut??!!?? BAD WIFE! Don't worry Matthew, if she makes it to the top twenty I'm sure they'll try to pair her up with some hot guy and then talk about how great their chemistry is all season. BYE!

Nigel actually stops the next group we see to chastise them and tell some girl she looks like a wet rag. Oh no! Iveta is in this group and Nigel says he has no idea what she was doing! Pull it together girl, I actually like you! He tells them to do it again and do it better.

I guess Iveta didn't because Cat tells us six more dancers have been cut, and she's the only one besides the same sex ballroom guy that I recognize.

SYTYCD20091014f

Awww, I really wanted her to make it and be paired with Russell, they were so cute together.

Speaking of Russell, he's in the next group, along with Mollee Gray and Billy Bell. Go Russell!

SYTYCD20091014g

Is it wrong to hope that she trips?

They just show Russell in a couple of quick clips, and I'm a little worried because his timing seems to be off from his partner's. I'm hoping she's the one that's really off. Both Billy and Mollee handle the choreography well, and I'm sure they'll get put through to the next round.

Nigel tells Mollee she's dancing like a little girl right now, and he needs her to dance like a woman. He continues, saying that's why the minimum age is eighteen rather than sixteen, because he wants women here.

SYTYCD20091014h

Funny, I always thought it was so he wouldn't get arrested for statutory leering.

Then he calls Russell forward, and I am nervous as hell. Nigel asks him what other training he has had, and Russell says he just dances, he gets it, whatever comes at him, he just does what he can. Nigel asks if this means he has had no formal training. Nope. What a minute! Didn't he say he did other styles when he was at the auditions?

keenai:

I can't believe you included Blake in that hotter guys on the show gif. VOMIT.

I'm scared Russell won't actually make it in the top twenty. They have done this to me before.

And I hate Legacy and his crybabying. Ugh. So I know we'll be stuck with him. I'll only be super annoyed if he's paired with someone decent and not someone who is canon fodder.

judyjudy:

Love the recap!

My husband and I cannot agree who is worse - Mia Michaels or Lil C. I'd like to lock them both in a closet together to see what happens. Actually, nothing would happen because they would both be so busy congratulating themselves and butchering the English language they wouldn't even notice anyone else was in there with them. Maybe we'll have to throw Baby Mollee in there with them so she and her camel-toe can bring a little sunshine.

pixiegal262:

Hate Hate Hate Legacy. That's all I have to say about that.

Love Russel, I am sooo hoping he gets in, he's perfect for this show. He is a natural dancer. He's interesting, different and has weirdly great technique even though he's not trained in dancing. I suspect that he means he's not literally a "trained dancer" but he has done other styles of dance. I've taken samba, salsa, ballet and modern classes but I wouldn't call myself a trained dancer.

I didn't think it was weird that Adam was getting all emotional. I started to cry a bit because what I saw was Adam seeing himself as this kid some 30-odd years ago. I think Billy Bell IS Adam as a youngin'. I think Adam is happy that Billy is being given a chance because he's such a great dancer and Billy reminds Adam of himself, that's all.

The husband of Miss SmarmFace is gorge and his body was like...yum. I hope he makes it through just so we can see SmarmFace every week freaking out because her delicious husband gets to dance with a bunch of beautiful young girls every week.

As for the ladies...meh. None stand out for me. Mollee is a bit annoying and I fear that if they put her on the show she'll get as far as that little dumpy blonde from last season.

Bianca annoys me for some reason. Her giving up last season rubbed me the wrong way. I know she's "seen the light" and all but man, suck it up bitch.

Although I gotta say, I have totally been that girl at the pool with my swim cap on (she probably forgot to bring one and the producers wanted girls in bathing suits...). We black chicks need to keep our hair DRY-frizzies are not cute :).

Oh, and I expect that Mollee's sprain wasn't as bad as the other girl's. They zeroed in on Mollee landing badly as well and her ankle didn't completely roll to the side. I've gotten about 10 sprained ankles and there is definitely a difference when you roll it completely and drop your weight on it and when you just kinda twist it hard.

Ade99:

I hate Legacy. One of the best bboys they've ever seen?? They're implying that they haven't seen much then...coz, I'ma say Bgirl Sara could teach him a thing or 70 - I picked a girl coz she's not as good as some of the guys who've been on the show - and Legacy is not as good as her so...

Anyways, Mollee needs to be gagged. Her voice is annoying. Spoilers say Legacy and her made it to the top 20. *cries*

Yay!! Russell is LOVE. That says it all.

tv freak:

People I want in the top 20:
Bianca
Phillip Atmore
Nathan Trasoras
Maybe Ellenore Scott
Billy Bell
Kevin Hunt (hip-hop ftw)
and
Russel

bigjr6633:

People I would like to see make it of course Russell, Ellenore, Nathan, Bianca, Kevin Hunt, and Billy!

People I couldn't care less about of course Legacy, Mollee, that damn ballroom couple!

What connection does Legacy have with the show? I was wondering why he kept getting put through when he hasn't been good all week. I guess it makes sense considering they know him. Best b-boy please I've seen what he does a million times and better. Oh and a moment of silence for Silky, I really thought he was going to make it this season hopefully he comes back next year.

Lizbot:

I missed this episode (or most of it). I didn't know Legacy was on the show. I'm disappointed to hear that he wasn't that good and that he was a bit of a douche -- I first saw him in the ACDC dance battle on youtube and was impressed.

He shows up at about 53 seconds -- also, there are a few SYTYCD connections, including Adam Shankman, Dave Scott, Lacey, and Hok

(Sorry, I just love that video -- any excuse to rewatch it and share it again!)

Lizbot:

Ok, double posting because I just finished reading the recap.

I don't know who I want to see in yet (I havent' seen parts of Vegas week), but I can say that I agree -- I can't stand Mollee. Or Ashley (the one with the hottish husband). If Ashley makes it, she's so going to be my Lauren of this season. If Mollee makes it, she's so going to be my Chelsie (sorry Chelsie lovers! Her personality just grates on me).

I like Billy Bell to an extent -- he's amazingly gifted, but something about his dancing just doesn't reach me. It must be a personal thing. He's very graceful, but somehow I don't feel like he has a lot of power behind his movement (obviously he has power or he wouldn't be able to do it so gracefully, but the power doesn't come through for me). Danny and Blake are still the two best contemporary dancers from the show for me. Billy is up there in talent and technique, but something is still missing for me so far...

gerritv:

If Legacy makes the top 20, which I hear he does, it's only because he'll be cannon fodder or there's a lot that he can do that they have not shown us. Hope it's the latter.

Wondering why so many tappers have gotten through to the top 38. Is Nigel planning to choreograph this year and will all the dancers be required to dance a tap routine? And with so many tappers left, isn't it a bit ironic that Ryan, Evan's brother, didn't make it?

Don't know what to make of the Di Lellos, they both leave me a little cold. One is a peacock and the other acts like she's superior.

But what I really want to know is why Mia left? Didn't something happen that set her off - a permanent 3rd judge or some other feud? All I know is, like her or not, she is a great choreographer and her routines and Emmy potential will be missed. Additionally, based on the Vegas backstage interviews with the judges that are posted on YouTube, she's quite a dancer. You can see her in the background working on a routine with the other dancers while Adam is being interviewed and that lady really has some moves!

With Iveta gone, there's a 'd' creeping into the beginning of my 'gruntled' feeling. . .

cattyfan:

"Legacy" will be one of those dancers the judges keep saving (because they can't admit their mistake,) and he won't get the boot until the votes are soley in the hands of the viewers.

ohhhyeah:

I'm sure at least 15 of the top twenty dancers have gotten almost no exposure as of yet, and the scenes that are used for the audition shows are based almost exclusively on emotionally impacting moments rather than what effect anything is having on the judges' final decision, so I no longer place a whole lot of importance on anything that is shown leading up to the final twenty. About the only thing I can determine is who I don't want to see because they are somehow annoying. That list includes Legacy, smarmy-faced girl and Bianca.

I did want to see Iveta make it, but I had a feeling she would struggle with other styles and wasn't surprised when she got cut.

Mia quitting the show is news to me; I'm sad to hear it. I liked her blatant honesty, even if her tact left something to be desired.

PottyMouth:

keenai: Sorry about that, but I have a friend who LURVES Blake and I would have never heard the end of it if I didn’t include him.

judyjudy: HEE! I love it! But could we find a closet big enough for all their fat heads???

pixiegal262: I was really pissed at Bianca last year when she said she wouldn’t be back again, but I’m willing to forgive as long as she doesn’t pull any whiny ass complaining during the season. I REALLY wanna see some tappers in the top twenty.

Ade99: I agree – Sara was SO much better than Legacy. Maybe he and Mollee will be paired together so we can get rid of them sooner.

tv freak: I like your list!

bigjr6633: Legacy’s connection to the show is that assisted Lauren in the choreography rounds last year. That’s why I’m sure they’ll probably put him through. Barf. I hope Silky comes back again next year too!

Lizbot: Thanks for sharing the video! I still don’t like him. He will totally be my Lauren f this season. I hear what you’re saying about Billy – maybe it’s because they’re chopping up his routines so much. I don’t know that anyone is ever going to top Danny for me.

gerritv: I’m hoping that they’ll actually bring in Ryan to choreograph for the tap numbers. I bet that would ease the pain of getting cut! I haven’t heard any word on why Mia left – I think if it was about Adam being brought on it would have happened sooner. Who knows? I won’t miss her comments, but I will miss seeing her choreography.

cattyfan: I fear you are 100% correct.

ohhhyeah: Agreed. It will be interesting to see who is in the top twenty and how many of them cause us to scratch our heads over who they are. I’m pretty sure the three you mentioned will be in there because I can’t stand them. Yes, the universe does revolve around me. :P

Thanks for all your great comments and thoughts everyone! I’m really excited to finally find out who our top twenty will be. I’m also curious to see how these first couple of weeks are going to play out without a results show. I don’t trust the judges to make the elimination decisions with no input from us. SHADY.

SWAK, PottyMouth
