Tonight America finally gets a vote, Nigel is PISSED and re-writing history yet again, and Cat has commissioned yet another dress made out of gift wrap. THIS is So You Think You Can Dance (dance........dance)!

Tune in next week when she wears a dress made of old potholders
Oh group numbers, how I have missed you!

This one is choreographed by Dave Scott (YAY!). I really liked this number. Obviously I loved seeing Russell get a featured section, also Legacy and Jakob really stood out. I thought it was interesting that Ryan actually did pretty well in this number considering how disastrous his hip hop was last night. Hopefully we'll be seeing more of Dave Scott this season. (Shane too, please)
Do we even need to introduce the judges at this point? How about I'll just let you know if and when we ever get a guest judge? Sound like a plan?
After her intro of the judges, Cat asks Nigel how he thinks the show is going to change now that America gets to vote. He's afraid that it will put some people in a position where the judges can't vote them off tonight. Pretty much, Nigel. That's the way YOU set up the show (after the first season that is). Cat wants him to name names, but he does not.

I'll have more to say on this later, don't you worry.
Cat moves along to Mary, saying she must be so relieved now that it's been taken out of her hands. But it hasn't really. All that's been taken out of the judges' hands is the determination of the bottom couples, not who gets sent packing. Silly Cat.
Mary said she'll let us know how she is after the show, if America got it right. And if they didn't, well, she might have something to say about it. Uh, Mary?

Shut Your Piehole
I hate when they say America got it wrong and act all petulant. That's my job, goddamnit!!!! Seriously, I don't vote, so technically I should probably shut up when the votes don't go the way I think they should, BUT I have no effect on the outcome, no matter how much I rant and rave. The notion of America getting it wrong when the show's premise is finding America's FAVORITE dancer is beyond ridiculous. GROW THE FUCK UP NIGEL AND MARY.
Sorry. They piss me off every season with that crap.
Cat asks Adam if he thinks everyone at home is going to get it right. He thinks just by definition they're going to get it right because the show is about voting for your favorite dancer, not necessarily the BEST dancer. (Uh, hello? Danny? I know, I know, I'm a broken record)

Thank you!
He thinks there are going to be a lot of instances where people are going to be picking up the phones to save their favorites even if they didn't dance well the night before. He thinks we're going to start seeing some sketchy stuff. I think we already HAVE seen some sketchy stuff. One thing that comes to mind is Russell being in the bottom dancers a couple of weeks ago when he wasn't the worst guy of the evening. That was pretty fucking sketchy.
Nigel says at this stage of the game they're choosing and trying to sort out the top ten to their likes as well. So don't fuck it up, mmmmmkay?
Ready to find out some results? Let's bring out the first three couples. Joining Cat on stage we have Kathryn and Legacy, Channing and Victor, and Ellenore and Ryan.

We're going to start with Ellenore and Ryan. They had hip hop. They sucked. They are in the bottom three. Neither of them seem surprised. Cat wants to know if Adam is surprised. Nope. But he is excited to see their solos.
Moving on to the other two couples left on stage, Channing and Victor did a decent contemporary number, but the earth didn't exactly move for the judges. Legacy and Kathryn did an Andy Butterfinger Broadway number, and Legacy was praised as usual while Kathryn was berated for her inability to give Nigel a boner. They are all safe. No word on whether Adam is surprised.

In case you're wondering what to get me for Christmas.
Then it looks like we're back for more results, but in actuality we're stuck in one of those lame infomercials like the ones they always do on American Idol. Here we have Dominc asking fans to do various dances moves and then there's something about a scooter from Kmart.

It's as lame as you think it could be. No, wait. That's wrong. It's lamer.

Peter, by performing without musice, actually made my point about what's wrong with the tappers chosen for this season: they don't dance with a discernable rhythm...they just make noise.
Look at his solo again, and try to figure out what count he might be using in his head. Is the music playing in his head to which he's dancing 4/4 time...3/4 time...what the heck is it? And when the tappers DID dance with music, they didn't follow the beat of the music. More often than not they FOUGHT the beat of the music...and just made as many tap sounds as they could.
Now watch an old movie wherein tap is featured...and know my frustration.
Ryan should have been sent home just on the basis of his sad little back flip...although Kevin is extraneous, and I wouldn't miss him.

I was PISSED but not suprised that Mowee and Nathan weren't in the bottom three and I'm not particularly angry at Nigel for getting pissed.
I think Nigel set up this show to have people vote for their favorite dancers, sure. But I think he was expecting "favorite" to pretty much go hand in hand with "one of the best". Unfortunately, people will almost always choose looks and personality over talent. I bet Nathan and Mowee will be in it until the end just because the tween girls love Nathan and they can relate to Mowee because she's like a little girl.
Karen and Kevin will be next, I expect. Karen is far to womanly and beautiful and Kevin is forgettable.
Oh, I will be sending Mowee t-shirts every week until she covers the fuck up. It's unseemly for such a young girl to parade around in what is basically a BRA and skin-tight pants. Ick.

You're right PM, Season 6 is really blowing.
Sorry to see Peter go so soon. I'll be missing those delicious spaghetti shots.
Never really got to know Pauline as a dancer so her elimination doesn't bother me.

I agree, Pixie, I was upset that the WORST dance in the show's history was not even in the bottom 3, but I wasn't shocked, either.
I also was really annoyed with Nigel's little rant about the season 6 vs. season 5 comparisons. Besides the fact that it was so recent, I thought season 5 had a very strong group of dancers, maybe the strongest they've had. I don't know why Nigel's so anxious to scrub everyone's memory of them. Why would he get mad at them for not living up to the unsolicited and, so far, inaccurate, hype that he created about season 6 blowing the rest out of the water?
If he wasn't so busy trying to be puppetmaster and telling everyone how they should think and feel about every moment of his broadcast, he'd realize that if they pick the best group of dancers they can, AND if these dancers perform to a high enough level, people will make the comparison on their own. Or they won't. I, for one, don't watch this show to compare seasons, I watch it to enjoy the dancing, learn about the dancers and see who wins the competition. It's kinda like your favorite sports team. I don't care if the coach screams that the 2009 team is way better than the 2008 team, I'm rooting for the team every year.
And the "hopefully America gets it right, or else we may not get to send home the people we want to send home" remark? Are you freaking kidding me? I thought these eliminations were very tough to make, Nigel. Not to mention that he made that statement before the bottom 3 couples were even announced, which of course is before they even danced their solos! So before the solos are danced, before the bottom couples are announced, you already know who you'd like to send home? I guess the solos aren't important then. Except when he needs them to justify his eliminations. On a similar note, if this is the best group they've ever had, then why would you already be looking forward to who you would LIKE To kick off the show? On the third week in, there's already waste in this cast that you'd like to thin out? Ridiculous.
That all being said, I wasn't heartbroken about the eliminations. No way Nathan or Mowee go home this early, even if they're in the bottom. I didn't think much of Pauline, but I did like Peter, so I was a little sad. None of those six have a chance of winning anyway.
I did love the group number in the beginning, and I found the guest performance a little odd, but enjoyable. I definitely prefer those appearances on the results show rather than pop singers who lip sync their latest track, however.
I look forward to your recaps every week, Potty. Keep up the great work!

I was very sorry to see Peter go. I really liked his personality. Of course, I know nothing about dance so I have no idea if he was any good. But I liked watching him. If the quickstep is so hard to do, why don't they save it for later in the competition after some truly bad dancers go. I thought Peter and whats-her-name did a fair job.
Also, what's tougher, the quick step or basic tapping? If they expect people to be experts in ballroom right away, why not put tapping in there.
My 2 cents.
And lol, not kidding, I had a dream where Nigel called me a M**ther F**cker. Scared the crap out of me!

zerocool...was the scary part his language, or the fact that you're dreaming about Nigel?

I wish I'd have known what you wanted for Christmas earlier PM, now I'll have to return the car.
I have to say, I'm actually enjoying this season more than season 5 which was, to my mind, probably the weakest season the show has ever aired (although I didn't hate it -- I enjoy every season). The main fault with this season is the stage. I am enjoying this season more though, because it's the first time in a long while I have someone I feel strongly compelled to root for. I'd like to see Kathryn win, I think she's tremendously talented.
I read about Nigel's tirade before I saw the episode. From the things people had written I was expecting a pretty spectacular blow up. When I finally saw it I thought, "That's it?" People sure do have a tendency to exaggerate. Maybe I wasn't taken aback because I had been pre-warned and was expecting far worse. Maybe it was because of who his words were directed against. Anyway, he had some good points. The only thing I would likewise disagree with was his later claim that Kayla performed above average solos.

Yeah, the only part I took umbrage with was him saying Kayla had good solos, too. SHE SUCKED, NIGEL. GET OVER IT. Man, that girl was a personality black hole.
Anyway. I think S6 is better than S5 because the dancers are far more interesting. S5 had technically proficient dancers but they were all pretty boring for me--minus Janette in the beginning and Jeanine in the end. So, really, I am looking forward to S5 erasing most of that wackness out of my memory.
I would have been fine with Kevin leaving, but I think his partnership with Karen is strong enough that the judges kept him. I really couldn't see her paired with Peter at all, so that worked for me. Karen is actually my favorite so far (you know, after Russell who I love), so I'd like to see her stick around a bit longer. Hopefully, they get a better routine this week.
LuckyLouie, Nigel said this summer that the judges know and generally pick their elims before the episode airs. If someone has an especially good solo, they can be spared, but it would have to be superfantasticamazing for that to happen. You know, good enough for the viewers at home to be like, "WHOA." (Lauren, who I hate, [maybe I should make that her official name] had one such solo during her season and it pissed me off because I really wanted her gone but even I couldn't justify kicking her out after that solo. DARN YOU, LAUREN.)

PM - once again, rocking recap.
Jakob - love his dancing, hate his voice. Yes I am petty, but he sounds like Leonard on big bang theory. Nails on chalkboard. Dance jakob, don't talk please.
Ryan - go home. That was one of the WORST solos I have ever seen. He only gets to stay because they will need a ballroom guy for the top ten. They don't need a tapper. I personally didn't love Peter so not too sad to see him go, but I loath Ryan. Peter was an ok enough dancer, but he always managed to say or do something to make me feel uncomfortable.
Mowee and Nathan should have definately been in the bottom three. They were really terrible. However, if the judges really want them to grow and mature, then why the hell did they put them together. How the hell are these two going to mature working with each other. They are both so young. Wouldn't they get more out of working with somoeone a little more adult.
Lastly, I agree that Kayla's solos were never all that good. What I find funny is that Nigel didn't mention Even, who actually (in my opinion) had great solos - it was just his couple routines that weren't all that great.

You guys keep talking about season 5, but I didn't watch it. Maybe I should go back and look at those episodes so that I can understand the comments.
I think the last season I watched was the Lacey season and didn't finish it. We moved to a new country and I didn't know how to watch things like I do now.

Snootchy, skip S5 and finish S3 and then watch S4. That's some good stuff right there.
brat, I agree about the pairing of Nathan and Mollee. I think they were thinking more FANBASE and less GROWTH. And also: DRAMA. I mean, people respond well to couples that have chemistry and they probably thought the two of them were good looking/close enough in age to generate some good chemistry. Russell and Noelle are roughly the same age (I think he's 19), but if you switch the partners, they would look/be horribly mismatched. Plus, those two are stronger dancers.

cattyfan - definitely the scary part was the fact that I was dreaming about it. EWWWWW.

cattyfan: I hear you. I was so excited to get tappers on the program, and I’ve been completely disappointed by what they did. :( What a waste.
pixiegal262: Yeah, I don’t think Nathan and Mowee are going anywhere any time soon. I agree about Kevin being forgettable which still surprises me because I loved him leading up to the top twenty.
gerritv: Yeah, we never really saw too much of Pauline other than her getting hurt in Vegas. It’s interesting to think how much better she may have fared if Billy had not had to drop out of the competition.
LuckyLouie: I just keep wondering when Nigel is going to realize that no one gives a crap about who he wants to win. I, too, was hoping to see Peter get a little further along, but his elimination didn’t break my heart.
zerocool: Eeekkk! You dreamed about Nigel?!??!! That must have been so frightening.
ohhhyeah: Damn!!!! I knew I should get my Christmas list done sooner! Yeah, the stage is really making me crazy – I really miss the intimacy of the old one. And Nigel trying to claim that Kayla was a great soloist is so ridiculous. I swear he thinks we all have short term memory loss or something.
keenai: I also have a never ending hatred for Lauren and I remember the solo you’re talking about. I hate it when that happens. ;P
brat: Jakob’s voice is like a cartoon character’s to me. I have the same reaction when Legacy speaks. Nigel won’t mention Evan. He’s still pissed Evan made it into the final four so he certainly won’t give him any praise. Whatta prick.
Snootchy Bootches: I think you should definitely watch the rest of season three before you do anything else!!! For me, I’d tell you to watch all of them, but then I love this show even when I’m hating Nigel. I still like to go back and re watch some of my favorite routines!
keenai: I think you’re right about them thinking Nathan and Mowee would have good chemistry – they could not have been more wrong.
zerocool: I wonder why the system does that sometimes? So weird.
Only a couple more eliminations before we have our top ten!!! It’s sad that I’m more concerned about which guys are gong to make it than the girls.
SWAK, PottyMouth

That's why I call Nathan and Mowee the "Teen Team", not the "Dream Team." They were put together to appeal to the pre-teen and early teenage demographic. They should have been in the bottom 3. Pauline and Peter were not stand-outs for me. Their quickstep was cute, but I haven't really noticed them as much as some of the other dancers. For me, it was a toss-up between Ryan and Peter as far as who was going home. Personally, I would have given Ryan the boot. Can't stand the guy. Talk about a Legend in his own Mind. Love thyself. He's so immersed in his own hotness.
For Season 5-- While Kayla was very good in her performances, her solos were rather mediocre for somebody supposedly so gifted. She had way too much build-up from the judges, to the point where it got annoying. I think all that build-up was directed by Nigel, who seems to have a penchant for blondes, although Anya, who was brunette at the time, was making him all hot and bothered. What a lech.
PM, do you notice how WHITE Nigel's teeth are?? He must use Crest Whitestrips every day. Either that, or has weekly teeth whitenings from his dentist. They are so white, they look like DENTURES.
Keep up the GREAT recaps!!

I don't have room in memory to store S5 trivia, so yeah, those references don.t mean much to me.
I like all these kids, as people, but some more than others. Some impress me more as dancers. I am attracted to some women (Karen, call me) more than others.
I did not appreciate most of the tap, but really liked Peter. I thought tap w/o music was not as bad, but it still left me less than entranced.
