So You Think You Can Dance: Smile Like You Mean It

coverjune26.png

Welcome to week two of the competition! Many of you felt no remorse for the axing of Jaime and Rayven last time - this show is cut-throat - it's wicked...it's passionate...it's... So You Think You Can Dance!

Our lovely Cat comes out and runs the onstage gauntlet that is our top 18. She then introduces our (MAKES THE AUDIENCE SAY IT AGAIN!)...Judges! You know what's funny? The only thing I couldn't stand about Cat last year was when she said "JIDGES" - now she refuses - and I desperately want to hear her say it! Oh Cat - you are a tricky minx!!

KikiC:

Okay, I really don't like Mia. She seems to hate the women dancers...and this week she was SOOO negative. She's an utter bitch. I loved when she got put in her place by Nigel and the audience after ripping Kton's smile.

Great recap. I love this show!

PS- I thought Chelsia looked more like the long-lost love child of Cheryl Burke from Dancing with the Stars.

FIRE@will:

Great recap. Thanks.

Mia had an off night - or maybe should stick to her (amazing) choreography.

Lots of great talent this season. Disappointed in Chelsea T. this week (maybe a lot was the Renaisance clown suit), but Josua and Twitch delivered again. Those three are among my early picks.

Was pleasantly surprised with Gev.

alex_w:

Chelsie and Mark had my second fave routine of the night... Katee and Joshua were my number one. Btw Katee has totally redeemed herself in my eyes from saying that if she wasn't accepted to the top 20, she wouldn't try again next year and basically being STUPID.
But my favourite part of the night was Nigel completely ripping on Chris... I was laughing so effing hard. I guess I have the tainted Kool-Aid on the judges table to thank for that.
Good recap, although they're not very punctual. And how many times can you use the word/sound "ugh" in one recap? All in moderation please.

flipit:

i hope someone from IKEA reads this recap, because they need to be told.

you funny.

Memememe:

I actually felt badly for Susie. What de Silva said was that she wasn't a "real" salsa dancer -- she's a street salsa dancer. As in, no training, wtf am I supposed to do with this hot mess of a dancer. She started to cry, and frankly, he was an asshole for saying that. They didn't show him apologizing, but I certainly hope he did.

Mia = over her

Jean-Marc = I'm terribly sorry about your daughter, but these 'personal story' pieces drive me up a wall

Mary = PLEASE STOP SCREAMING. GAWD. I'm begging you.

Cecily & Olisa = no.

Why don't they have Paula Abdul come around & guest choreograph? She & Mary can clap like seals together.

Absolutely none of the dancers stands out for me yet.

bBitz:

First off - Memememe - LOVE your comments! I totally concur! Kiki - LOL with your Cheryl reference. And Fire - I totally agree with your top 3 picks - so do the judges it seems!

Lastly, Alex - Sorry these can be late but it takes 5-6 hours to write a quality recap on a 2 hour show. It takes you 1-2 minutes to write a comment. You get an "UGH". :p

EZ Rider:

God damn, Mia is self-righteous. Aside from ripping on blondie's smile, she's seems to have done everything and been everywhere under the sun. "Yeah, I'm from Miami, so..." "Yeah, I'm from Vienna, so..." "Yeah, I invented Broadway, so..." "Yeah, I'm not slender so petite girls piss me off..."

Ugh.

Big fan of Kherington and Twitch, and Joshua and Katee. Both great partnerships.

shibaby:

I f'ing LOVE these recaps! Very funny! Am I the only one who HATES when Cat goes "here are your girls...and these are your guys!" I literally FFWD before she can get it out it bugs me so much....anyone else?? btw, this is my first post though i've been an avid reader for a couple years now...best site ever!

guinevere:

My cousin actually has Rett syndrome, the same disease as Jean-Marque's daughter so this episode was really touching for me and my family.

Though, to be fair, I think the personal story pieces are a bit unfair b/c like how can the judges rip on your life like that? (Unless of course you're a total bitch like Mia).

It's a long-ass show featuring almost 10 DANCES plus commenting, of course it takes a few days to put it up. Calm down. Jesus.

Awesome recap!

angie:

shibaby--Me! Me! Me, too! Cat is driving me batty this season.

Something else I hate is when she introduces each dancer individually at the beginning.

"Here's Chelsea! This is Thayne!" Like nails on a chalkboard.

UGH!

chunkymonkey:

I think twitch should get the title right now for "dancing like a man" to a celine dion song.

I seriously adore him- and boringly agree with everyone else about chelsea h, katee, josh and kton. (i thought gev was good but I can't forget that they kept him over brandon-the person i was the most excited to watch in the top 20). I think the other chelsea is going to redeem herself next week because she was hot fire the first week and got taken down by mismatched choreography this week.

KrispyDixie:

What the hell was Mary wearing?!?! She is sooo annoying, everytime she opens her mouth, I mute the TV....

Mia was waaaaay too harsh on the girls and I'm glad you called her out on the whole Lesbian Spell thing with Cat!! That's exactly what I was thinking :)

I agree with you, Chelsea and Mark were the best and I think they are my faves this year... Suzie and Marquis sucked a** and they deserve the boot.

Great recap, bBitz! :D

jglau78:

I have a love\hate relationship for the judges. Sometimes I agree, disagree, get annoyed- and you're commenting on exactly what I'm thinking! What kind of stylist do they have on set? A fashion reject or are they just blind?
As for the dancing- I'd say after this weeks thursday episode it's going to be hard. Thanks for the recap! It's a great chuckle!
