Survivor: Fourth Is The New First

It's cool, I'll just go wait over there on the jury.

After the tribal council, Denise gives us a little recap of last week's events, in which she doomed herself to lose after choosing not to side with Peih-Gee and Erik. She says it "could have been one of the biggest mistakes I've made in the game so far". Hey, there's nothing wrong with fourth place! That's why when the Olympics are held they give out gold, silver, bronze, and the coveted fourth place medal, which is made out of munster cheese.

Peih-Gee goes to get the treemail while wearing her robe from the Shaolin reward. She talks about how hard it is to be the least liked, and how she feels on the outside with everyone ganging up on her. This is the part where I was hoping that the treemail box would contain a dodgeball.

I guess dodgeballs are not Asian enough for this season, so instead there is a pack of arrows with an accompanying stupid poem, which Peih-Gee reads to the rest of the castaways. The reward challenge has two steps. First, each castaway is given five arrows to distribute among the rest of the Survivors. Then each person will take a turn aiming the arrows at a big target that's divided into squares with each person's name on five squares. The person with the most arrows in their area of the target at the end wins reward, which is a trip to the Great Wall of China.

The arrows, they are distributed. Peih-Gee opens her box, which contains...one arrow. Because they're color coded, she knows who did it, so she's like, "Thanks, Courtney!" which is funny because you can tell that Peih-Gee now has one more arrow than she expected to get. The person with the least arrows goes first, so Peih-Gee takes her one shot and misses. Denise is next (two arrows), and hits herself once for one point. Amanda gets four, and she hits Denise's twice, putting Denise in the lead. Todd has six arrows, and apparently flight attendants are also required to defend fortresses from oncoming Mongolian hordes, because his aim is excellent and he scores five points for himself. Courtney is the last one to go and has twelve arrows to fire, not because she's the most popular but probably because he's the most inept. It appears that she just starts firing randomly around the board, but I'm thinking she's maybe trying not to win so she doesn't piss anyone off. Or she sucks. One of the two.

Am I the only one hoping a wayward arrow would hit Probst?

So, Courtney randomly hits Todd and Denise at regular intervals, taunting them each with a possible win. She finally hits Denise at the very end, and Denise wins the reward. Jeff lets her pick one person, and she chooses Courtney because she helped her win. Then Jeff drops the bomb and tells Denise to pick one more person. She debates with Courtney over who to take, and Peih-Gee takes this opportunity to berate Denise with all of the nice things she's done for her, including the Shaolin reward, and you can tell that Peih-Gee is just really frustrated with her position in the game and all of the helplessness that's going on. Denise says (fairly loudly) that she doesn't want to take Peih-Gee because she doesn't want her to get any stronger, so if you're hoping that Denise will smarten up and switch sides, you might want to rummage through your trash for that gift receipt.

Denise finally chooses Todd, so it looks like Peih-Gee and Amanda will be left behind. Peih-Gee just loses it here, and sort of whines about how lame the whole thing is, which on one hand is kind of bratty and in poor taste, but on the other hand is something that's completely understandable. It is a game, though, so she should realize what the deal is and take no offense. I'd just sit there and think, "Alright, if that's going to be how it is, I'll just have to own you in the immunity challenge and watch your mullet ass get voted out."

OK, so in the preview, it said 3 tribals left, which I guess means final 2 this year? If so, here's what terrifies me:

I would say if Amanda doesn't win the final 4 immunity, she's going home. Todd would probably get rid of her ... he did say in last week's tribal that he needed to think about who he could beat. And he'd have a landslide over coattail-riders Courtney & Denise, whereas he'd probably lose against Amanda. He and Courtney are really close, which makes me think he could convince her to vote out Amanda, and I think we know that Denise isn't really one to force a tie. She'd probably go with Todd & Courtney b/c she's under the deluded impression she can beat Todd. (By the way, if Amanda DOES win immunity, I think Todd would go, for essentially the same reason -- she could beat Courtney/Denise much easier than Todd. Amanda could strongarm the other 2 girls into it by pointing out that it's either Todd going, or one of them.)

So then we have 3 left: Courtney, Denise, and either Todd/Amanda. Now, at this point, Courtney and Denise would be complete morons not to band together and get rid of whoever is left (assuming that Todd/Amanda doesn't win immunity at 3). They may think they have a chance against Todd/Amanda, but they don't. Courtney & Denise only have a chance against each other, and I would hope they'd realize it if they get to this point, and get rid of the 3rd person.

So then we'd be left with .... a final 2 of Courtney and Denise.

pappy:

I thought that is the way it was going to go too...three TC's = final two. But I guess they meant the final four tribal, then the final three where they vote, then the final three back in CA where they reveal the votes...

weasel dearest:

It was a great season. I really enjoyed it. How could I not like a season where a gay guy and two ladies were the final three?

I read all three pages.

"Denise the Walking Houseplant" that was funny.

(Denise would have won if Amanda had taken Denise instead of Todd.)
