Twila's House Falls on Ami's Head

ami_head_flowerI have to hand it Twila. She did something that I thought nobody among Survivor: Vanuatu had the brains to do, ie beat Ami at her own game. Admit it, you never thought it could be done, but it did happen, and all of a sudden there is suspense about the episodes and the outcomes of tribal councils. Returning from the latest tribal council, Ami had some a tougher job ahead of her than we have ever seen before. You know there was going to be conflict, and the new Twila, Scout, Eliza, and Chris pact seemed to be working, but if we have learned anything, it is that Ami is a master manipulator. She has proven she can steer the game in a direction that benefits her, and she was going to have to do just that to stay in the game.

Arriving back at the Alinta camp from the latest tribal council, Ami employed a strategy that many who get blind sided in reality shows try. She tried to guilt everybody in the alliance back onto her side. I call it the Lex school of Survivor post-voting strategy. The main talking point was how Twila could have lied to her about sticking with the all girls plan. Ami accused them of not really liking Eliza, and using her only for their own benefit when it was needed. Now, I am not sure what world Ami is from, but in my world, I watched her write down Eliza's name. She shouldn't complain about people trying to use Eliza to their advantage when she already decided that Eliza's usefulness to her was done. Granted, Ami was not the one who was pushing to get rid of Eliza, but voting for Eliza last week meant thse was down with the plan. Ami also tried to take the sanctimonious moral high ground by saying she couldn't believe Twila had sworn on her son's life. She said it was "yucky" and she completely lost all respect for her. Once again, Ami is living in some alternate universe. On this planet, we all saw when Twila swore on her son's life that she would stick with the plan, that Ami and Leann mocked her in her face. To say that she used Twila's promise to base her trust is a joke. As Ami said it herself, she got a little cocky, and that is what did her in.

For her part, Twila got a little cocky herself. She told Ami she deserved it for acting so high and mighty and better than anybody else. That is more of the reason for the audience to dislike Ami, but it is true for the most part. Ami has had control of this game from the beginning, and depended on being the leader of the girls alliance to get her through, but clearly showed that she thought some people were more important than others in the game, and she never really wanted anything to do with Twila, other than french braiding her hair. Twila took time to congratulate herself saying "I got a great mind sometimes. It's great".

Papercuts!:

"Ami Cusack, we'll wait for your return to Playboy once the show is over, and please bring Julie with you."

I second that.

scottbr:

I thought Ami threw the reward toward the end. She had it locked up, and it sure looked like she took a dive. My theory was that she'd look like less of a target if she didn't win the car (but she would still get the spa reward).

Not sorry to see her go at all. It'll keep my blood pressure down during the Tivo replays.

jack:

I thought for sure Ami's lesbian mind-control would pull Eliza over to the dark side. now who will the little sparrow turn to?

smithie:

I found it really amusing when Ami said:
"First I would like to hold Twila under the water for two minutes...But I'm glad that I am walking away from the game with my principles and integrity."
Yeah, right, I'm glad killing someone is within her principles.
To quote a apprentice genius: Ding Dong

LizLovesTARgasm:

And let's not forget Ami's ultra-exaggerated comment that she made to Eliza (not once, but twice): "Eliza, I've stuck up for you like 50 million times."

Wow that's a lot of times in 33 days. That's like 1.5 million times a day that Ami had her back. Geesh, Eliza, how dare you vote Ami off.

Good riddens Ami. Go back to schlepping coffee.

It would be quite the sight to see if Chris ended up taking the whole thing -- my two cents.

Lady J:

I couldn't believe how Scout and Twila ignored Julie. They should have been trying to get her on their side instead of insulting and ostracizing her. Anyone of them could recruit her as the new Eliza and try to wreck their four-man split. Although, I wouldn't want to take her to the final two.

Retroqueen:

I somehow can't see Ami back in Playboy magazine, I CAN see her in National Geographic Magazine in a photo essay of her and her all girl posse grooming each other for tics (they weren't actually plucking each others eyebrows with their fingers were they?) with a parallel story on the grooming habits of gorillas

yolanda:

retro's comment about ami in playboy got me thinking: has anyone else noticed how relatively well-nourished these survivors are after 33 days? i thought ami had a little too much junk in the trunk at the beginning of the game, but figured after a month or so of starvation she'd look like a comic book superheroine with skinny body and enormo-bulbous fake hooters. but she's still sporting a little jiggle on her thighs and some backfat. eliza looks scrawny, but everyone else is just barely leaner than they were at the beginning, as opposed to other seasons where the radical weight loss has been obvious. my guess is eliza is the only one losing weight because she's carrying over habits from the sorority house.

i guess manioc pancakes probably aren't on the south beach diet. or maybe they're just sneaking away from their 'remote' camp down the dirt road to eat out of the garbage cans at probst's resort hotel.

bobst:

I hate to nitpick like eliza and ami, but

"If they were able to drive to this Spa, it meant that their camp was as remote as we thought." was NOT as remote.

"Unless Survivor drastically changed, Twila is not going to be a factor in the challenges, as mentioned before. Twila has always been fairly strong," You mentioned SCOUT not being a factor before.

EDIT, people!

caramo:

Anybody else think the women might jump back to an all girl pact? I think they may very easily bring julie back into the fold. Chris had better win immunity next week, or I think he might be done.

Bobst,

thanks for the corrections. My editor does suck. I don't even think he has a real job.

Oh wait, that's me.

dna:

Well - good ridence to Ami! woohoo! But honestly if you were Twila, Scout or Eliza - would you really want to bring Julie into the final 4 with you (of course pending that Chris doesn't win immunity........) Julie - quiet lil Julie - who has ridden coat tails to where she is now - not once do I recall her doing any scheming on her own - just being a follower. Not to mention that she would be better at the final challenges than the other 3 gals! Eliza, who has changed her mind a half dozen times looks to me like a good bet for final 2!

Survivor Ties?? They changed that quite awhile back - not sure which one but I believe this is the 2nd change - I thought they realized that the other teams were keeping track of the vote process so that was why they changed it. But I thought that the whole rock pulling thing used to be just the two being voted on but the last couple of survivors it was the whole tribal council pulling.....can anyone provide a concrete when things changed???

Thanks!
