Last week on Survivor, the tribes were scuffled in order to create some tension in a season that's been criticized for a variety of reasons. The rich versus poor twist was poorly planned, and the result was a whole bunch of lopsided challenges and lots of footage of people who are unable to move, and it sort of sucked the drama out of the show, if you can believe it. After last year's stellar season, the fans have come to expect a little bit more than Fiji has been providing for us. Until tonight. Because tonight, there is foosball. And blindfolded club swinging. And machetes. And comeuppance.
We begin at Day 17 on Ravu, the morning after Anthony's boot. The five remaining boys are huddled around the fire eating, awaiting the return of Lisi from Exile Island. They seem to think that Lisi will be a lot cooler now that she's separated from Stacy. I can see how they might think that, since Stacy and Lisi sucked so much that I kept waiting for them to morph together all Voltron-like into some sort of giant bitchy robot and terrorize the countryside with its screechy laser beams. Lisi runs up to camp and hugs her old Moto-mates, telling us how she went batshit insane and switched brains with Jeff Probst last week. She feeds us something about how what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and if this is true, I would like to hear what falling on her face a few weeks ago taught her about the kindness of strangers.
Lisi talks about how being by herself for so long caused her to begin hallucinating, like she's some sort of Indian chief. If she is? I'm betting her Indian name is Walks With Face. I'm thinking she has a concussion from the fall and no one's noticed. She talks about how she was "totally trippin" on Exile Island, and I would probably begin avoiding her immediately if I were them, because she might look at one of her other tribemates and see a giant turkey leg or something. Dreamz tells us how he really, really doesn't like Lisi (and makes me like him yet more, thanks to a little mathematical theorem I like to call the Transitive Property of Disliking the Same People I Do), and that she should watch her ass. Oh, how sweet that would be, if Dreamz were the cause of Lisi's downfall.
The snakes, they were like, talking to me, man! I talked to one about Lost for like three hours. That show is crazy.
Credits! The sky is purple, you guys. I think I'm hallucinating!
It's Day 17 on Moto, and Earl tells us about how the new Moto tribe is composed of 3 old Moto and 3 old Ravu, so he's going to need to do something to change the power dynamic on his tribe if he doesn't want to get stuck in a deadlocked vote. Hey, Earl? Cassandra over there, she might be willing to give you a hand with that. But, Earl has another plan. Earl and Yau have decided that they know where the idol is at the Moto camp, so Earl is going to take the rest of lead the rest of the tribe away from camp to fetch the big boat that carried all 19 of them to the nice camp on the first day, which has become grounded on some rocks out in the middle of a lagoon. While Earl's leading the rest of the tribe on a wild boat chase, Yau-man is going to dig for the idol, sort of like they both did a couple of weeks ago. Except this time, Earl has a better excuse than "Let's all go check, um...over here for...some shiny things."

I've never been so happy to see somebody get booted on Survivor. What a dick.

Yay, Schoonie! This goes down as one of my favorite episodes ever due to the hilarity and you did well in capturing its spirit!
I would just like to point out that it was Dreamz for who unscrambled the word 'cannibal' for moto. And you missed the joke--Is this because the homeless sometimes eat one another?
You're slipping, Schoonie.

Excellent recap, although I was expecting 20 pages after the 4-day wait :-P
I cracked up at Yau-Man's wacky facial expressions after he found the idol. You rarely see a man his age making those kinds of faces. He's like a 10-year-old kid.
And the fake idol? Genius. Fake idol popping up at tribal council = best Survivor moment ever.

Note to self: don't drink coffee while reading Schoonie's recaps. Makes a danged mess on the screen.
Great episode, great recap. I fall more in love with Yau-Man & Michelle each and every show. And Earl didn't seem quite as arrogant as he flashed last week, so he's back in my good graces.
Can't WAIT for someone to find the fake HII. hee hee. Please let it be Boo or Stacy. And please let it be as awesome as I am imagining!

Actually, when you pointed that out to me on the phone (Commando and I are friends in real life) I tried to pay special attention to that, and he actually said "Cannibalism". Given that there was no letter "M" on any of the tiles, I am somewhat reluctant to give him credit for being some sort of unscrambling savant.

Oh, right! I forgot to mention the fake immunity idol they planted. Seriously, if the fake idol comes into play, it could be one of the greatest Survivor fake-outs ever. Pleasepleaseplease let it happen!

This was the best episode of the season thus far. From Yau's reaction to finding the Idol to his creating a fake one (I can only hope Boo will find the fake one and try to use it. Please, please, please), to the Rocky knock-out.
I so love the Yau/Earl alliance and I'm crossing my fingers that they make it to the end.
Thank's for the Lisi falling video - I had forgotten about that ; )
Great recap, Schoonster.

""Mookie takes the opportunity to mock Yau-man to the other members of Ravu for being frail. Good thing Yau-man wasn't looking, or Mookie would be ablaze right now.""
That right there is why these idiot children they cast on this show end up geting hated--- will they ever understand? (and if Rocky was cast on this show by CBS... where the hell did they find him.... Bums R Us?)
Earl and Yau-man are a duo I would watch in a spin off show.... Earl and Yau-man do disco..... yep I'm there, Earl and Yau-man do rice farming... I'm there too... this pair make me want to watch each week!
Thanks Schoonie... missing you in the forums......
And for those of you who read and post only here... click the forums tab... a bunch of great people will welcomme you and you can read more on this survivor episode!

How awesome is Yau-Man? Probably my favorite Survivor contestant ever.

That honor is split among Rob Cesternino, Boston Rob, and Yul for me, but this season is not over yet. And Yau-man and Earl both rule the school, so they could join the pantheon soon.

When Yau found the HII and made his crazy expressions I cracked UP! Then I thought to myself, man if I was on survivor I would make a fake one and place it back in the dirt and NOT tell Earl I found it. Lo and behold Yau makes a fake one and becomes my favorite contestant! Did you see how happy he was when he thought of the idea. He could barely contain himself! Yau rocks! I only hope Earl doesn't screw him over in the end because Yau is too nice to screw over Earl and I know someone has to eventually..

"because Yau is too nice to screw over Earl"
Actually, I don't think he is. He's clearly in this game to win it, and he's not going to make a move that will hurt him on purpose; I don't think Earl expects Yau to lay down for him, either; he's going to know that when it gets close, it's time to do something else. That means that when it gets down to it, Earl and him are probably going to shake hands and part ways. This is the most respectful thing you can do in Survivor, to me, because its childish and stupid to think that your friends are just going to let you have the money when it comes close to the end.

ohmygod, I have SO been anxiously awaiting this recap because this episode was so awesome. Earl is definitely my latest TV boyfriend, and Yau-man is freakin' hilarious.
Great recap, Schoonie. I hate it when people complain about how long recaps take sometimes, BUT.... I was dying for this recap for the last few days. When the episode is this good, you gotta help us out, man.

Ha! It's cool, I take it as a compliment. Blame my friends for visiting Chicago this weekend and forcing me to drink until my liver collapsed in on itself, and Sondre Lerche for getting stuck in Montana and postponing his concert to Sunday night. Oh, and God of War 2. All of those things. I won't be this late often, though, I promise.

Hope it was a good recap. 4 is my limit.

Chicago, eh? Me too.
I almost died when Yau-Man began kissing the turtle. I love him. And Earl Island was beautiful. I would totally live on Earl Island.
When I was watching all of Rocky's outbursts (loved him screaming after the announcement of the hot dogs and beer) I couldn't help but imagine him as a beat-down Southie kid just trying to act like an asshole to keep from getting his ass kicked every day. Can you tell I have been watching the Departed? This is not to say that I feel bad for him. It's time to grow up, kid. OH wait, didn't he say that to Anthony? What a douche.
and about the forums...i would join but am scared of getting sucked in.

Ew, and Boston Rob being in anyone's top player list? Gross. Blah blah blah he was a good player blah blah blah I don't care. He is quite possibly the most annoying human being I have ever had the pleasure of knowing through the television. And ugly too. I share the use of the transitive property of liking people that hate the same people I do...but it goes the other way where I begin to dislike people that like the people that I hate. Make sense?

Fcyin,
It's all good; some people like Rupert, but I personally believe him to be odious, so I can see where you're coming from. I have found that people who dislike Boston Rob are always going to dislike Boston Rob, no matter how much explaining I do. Instead, I will present you with a list of people that I've known through the television, that are, in fact, more annoying than Rob (well, other than Rupert, which I have already covered):
Mirna (and often, but not always, Charla)
Johnathan and Victoria
Adam and Nate from Cook Islands
Lisi
Rocky
Stacy
The Cho Brothers
Karlyn (of "Lyn and")
Janice Soprano
The Friendship
Charlie from LOST
...and that's just off the top of my head.
If it makes you dislike me less because I like Rob, though...than I challenge you to a duel. Pistols by Lake Michigan at midnight!

Dude, if you don't read things that are longer than four pages, college must have been a real bitch. And also, you have never known the joys of Judy Blume. How she does bring tears to the eyes of many a twelve-year-old. Thanks for taking the time to comment without reading, though! It's a much better allocation of resources on your part. And it does not make you irrelevant at all.

Johnathan and Victoria

During the blindfold challenge my boyfriend and I were laughing so hard our sides hurt! Best parts: when Boo jumps up to guide Yau and is like "I'm blind!". And when Jeff Probst says, "Now Yau has to come back to the start," and Boo yells, "Come back Yau!" Still laughing!

great recap schoonie!
although I know that the merged teams would never choose the Ravu beach over the Moto one, it owuld be funny if Earl and Yau were able to find THAT idol too!
Rocky berating his team at the reward was bad "social skills" and Mookie taunting Yau proves why karma is a bitch!
22 of 25 | Posted by zoobabe | Posted on April 3, 2007 8:19 PM
All right, all right, all right. Boston Rob may not be the MOST annoying, but he's the person that I most want to be able to kick in the nuts. Does that suffice?
Duel challenge accepted.

I can't believe you didn't mention the part when Boo insisted on jumping up to "guide" and then was blinded? What a dumbass....also when Stacey keeps asking for Michelle to help them unscramble the tiles and then Michelle, completely oblivious to what's going on, turns and is like, "oh, yeah". Then she finally proceeds to help solve it. (Insert stereotypical comment here)

Rocky's primal scream was awesome. I laughed and laughed and laughed some more. Yau's fake idol was also very funny. It WAS a very good episode.
