Not That You Needed a Reminder

bachelor_paris.jpgI am not sure how many iterations of The Bachelor have been shown on ABC, but they are coming out with the next edition starting tonight January 9th, at 10 PM (check local listings). For those of you not familiar with the show, one lonely bachelor woos a number of women, apparently in search of true love. After a couple of seasons helping minor celebrities (Jesse Palmer, Charlie O'Connell), this edition features ER doctor Travis. And if being on a reality TV show isn't already enough to get you in the mood, this year they get to do it all in Paris. Although the rose ceremony at the end of each show may not be as exciting as the board room or tribal council to some of you, keep an eye on TVgasm, where our own copygodd will be recapping the show. You can read more about this year's bachelor by clicking here. For bios on all of his potential suitors, click here. Sadly for all of you women, B-Side, EdHill, madeyoulaugh and yours truly didn't make it through to the final. You'll have to do your stalking the traditional way.

He looks slightly retarded.

EdHill Author Profile Page:

And the only reason they didn't pick me was because they said having an albino as their bachelor wouldn't play to their "democgraphic".

Bigots.

Flavah-flav's version of this show on vh1 is sic! His will probably make this version look TAME. I'll be watchin'!

Nothing against copygodd (you know I love a fellow Coloradan and your Biggest Loser recaps have always been good) but what happened to Jaded Bitch? His snark was some of the best around!

hardly@work Author Profile Page:

you're recapping the bachelor? what a lame show, at least flav's makes fun of itself, the bachelor is dunzo

at least i don't have to watch it poor poor j-unit

zoobabe Author Profile Page:

Every season I saw I won't watch it again, and every season I do. Oh well- I'm gonna like seeing those hos fight for a DOCTOR!

hazasaem Author Profile Page:

I'm watching it right now....let the train wreck begin!

Podger Author Profile Page:

Ed, I find albinos strangely appealing....hmmmm.

Seriously, The Bachelor is one reality show I've never watched and don't plan on starting now. It's just a weird premise to me. I don't know, just can't find a reason to tune in yet. If anyone can compel me to watch this one...then post away and tell me why it's worth the time.

The show wasn't as terrible as I was expecting, what with the crazy broad at the end. If they allowed the Bachelor to ditch this psycho, then I'm guessing there must be an even psychoier bitch in the remaining group (my bet is the redhead).

Anyway, what they need to do is to just quit with the romantic crap and mercilessly make fun of these chicks....

Other then the girl who got that first rose, I thought the girls were uniquely ugly this show.

Did anyone else think that the girl who lost her shoe totally did it on purpose?

zoobabe Author Profile Page:

I agree with you Soriner that I'll bet on the redhead as the future psycho, but lets wait on the recap and comment further then. So far, so good though. I just hate how they show so many previews that you can pretty much figure out who's still there!

The Bachelor (actually Bachelorette) is the reason I started reading TVgasm in the first place, a whole year ago! I loved the snark about Jen Scheft and Fabrice and all that shizzle. Viva La TVGasm Bachelor Coverage!

I'm with EdHill on this Travis dude. Anyway we can still laugh at the bios while waiting for the recap.

For example, Susan's idea of the perfect date, unlike the rest who have some variation on the just-being-with-someone-special theme, is the none more ridiculous "Flying on a private jet to the Maltese Islands, getting on a yacht and exploring the coastline over a bottle of wine." Who the hell says that????

Or get Moana's Frankenstein-esque description of the perfect man, which is pretty much dead wrong on all counts in any case: "Looks like the '06 version of Gregory Peck with a little bit of the Knoxville gruff and has the wit of Luke Wilson, charisma of Tom Cruise, humility and strength of Robert Redford and the alternative edge of John Cusack." Seriously though, WTF!!!!!

And while I didn't like her in the premiere, I do think Yvonne has the by far the best answer for her the perfect date: "Being with someone who did nothing to annoy me." I like it!

It was pretty boring except for the oncologist who called the guy out. She came on way too strong, but really wouldn't she rather be cut right away. She's on a timed mission so why get strung along by someone who is not ready to start a family?

She was interviewing him too. It was a bad fit.

alohaguy Author Profile Page:

Okay, call me a hopeless romantic, but I love watching this show! Seeing the ho's fight for the "hunk" is hillarious and heartwarming at some level. The collective "sigh" with the subliminal messages of "bitch" when the woman received the pre-rose, was priceless. I LOVE the TVGASM recaps...And look...at least two of the romances have lasted...Can three be far behind???

Sara S. is from my town, so we're all rooting for her. I've never met her - but her family is great...she's a kindergarten teacher, could she be any sweeter?

I won't be watching The Bachelor, but I will be readint the recaps, good luck J-Unit!

Once again, they have they're token African-American who will probably be eliminated soon, as well as the requisite "NBA dancer"...

Victoria Author Profile Page:

I can't wait for the recap. The show was hilarious-my favorite part other, than the insane oncologist, was when they girls drove by the Eiffel Tower in their limo and one of them said "It's even better than the one in Vegas!" Does anyone know which girl said that?

damn, i better get off my ass and start the recap.

it will be up tomorrow.

the recap, not my ass.

zoobabe Author Profile Page:

see copygodd, I was willing to wait for it. It's those other hos who want to jump ahead. Their eggs must be rotting.

bea s. -

She's already gone...she didn't get a rose the first night.

I don't know why black men and women sign-up for this show anyway. Seriously, do they really think that they have a chance?! This is ABC...not MTV or VH1.

It was one reason why I stopped watching shows like this to begin with. Bring on a bachelor of color (Black, Hispanic, Asian) - and I'm not talking about Flavor Flav. Give the sisters a chance.

Lady J Author Profile Page:

The women don't know who the Bachelor is until they meet him. He could be anyone of any race for all they know.

Maybe they sign up on a dare or for the travel. Clearly there is a whole spectrum of reasons .

zoobabe Author Profile Page:

I don't think the producers at ABC are ever gonna pick a minority Bachelor. They just like to seem PC, so they throw in a few "tokens" as contestants. That being said, I think that the women have a much better chance though, as guys are gonna go for looks over everything else. For instance, I think Moana is gorgeous and she must be Indian or Arabic although I haven't checked her bio. Plus- Mary got Byron and he even learned to speak the language to propose to her.

Lady J Author Profile Page:

I think Moana is Polynesian. The name and complexion suggest it anyway.

The "token" concept is overrated. Maybe these women got to the show because they checked that they were open to interracial and so did he. "Tokenism" suggests that the women would be around long enough to appeal to a multi-ethnic viewership. This is negated by giving the Bachelor the choice to eliminate so many (and hence all the obvious unwanteds) in the first episode. It would be pointless for the producers to cast women who would be dismissed without consideration.

Crying "tokenism" every time one of us shows up in something is far more distressing than non-white people not being included at all. If you keep doing that, when exactly will our presence not be token? Let progress take it's course.

zoobabe Author Profile Page:

The PC attitude is optimistic Lady J, but naive. Check back with me when there's a minority Bachelor or Bachelorette.

Practical. My attitude is practical.
