"Who's taking me home first?"
Welcome to DeAnna's journey across America, also known as the Hometown Dates! Tonight The Bachelorette crisscrosses the fruited plain to meet the families of her potential one and only. And what grand insights will the families provide? Join me as we get down to it!
So we start off with DeAnna taking us through a familiar journey detailing the four guys who are lucky enough to be welcoming her to their hometowns this evening. We've already viewed and dissected all of these moments with painstaking detail, so on with the show! First stop, Breckenridge, Colorado, home of The Riddler. The Riddler is looking the cutest he has so far in his light blue snow suit and non-matching gloves. His wacky hair even seems right in this setting as we get a montage of him doing his extreme snowboarding. He tells us that he's been teaching snowboarding for years and it isn't uncommon for his students to fall in love with him, so he's hoping that's what will happen when DeAnna takes her first snowboarding lesson today.
"I got dressed in the dark."
DeAnna tells us how much she's grown to care about The Riddler after spending more and more time with him, but there is always that unfortunate incident where DeAnna practically threw herself at him and he didn't dive at the chance to kiss her. How dare he? DeAnna is in a little snow suit of her own. Hers is cream with pinstripes. The lesson starts and DeAnna does fine until The Riddler lets go of her hands and then she goes tumbling. Now, I have tried snowboarding exactly once, and let me tell you, it is not easy. I hear that once you catch on it's great fun, but I spent an entire day sliding two feet then falling hard. My brain hurt from being jostled around so much. I guess I needed a teacher like The Riddler.
No brain injuries here.
The two little snow bunnies stop for a hot chocolate snuggle and a define-the-relationship chat. DeAnna feels safe with The Riddler, and he thinks it's hot that she's a natural athlete. He prepares her to meet his parents and she yammers a lot about needing a guy to depend on - like when The Riddler helped her after she fake-fell off the mechanical bull. Then he scoops her onto his back and swoops down the run with her riding piggyback. Somehow all I can think of is "Twilight" and the teenage vampire running through the forest with Bella on his back. DeAnna is even a huge wuss, just like Bella! (Sorry, I've been doing some summer reading.)
They head for The Riddler's apartment and just like every red-blooded American bachelor, he has one entire wall taken up by a plasma screen television. Then he tells her about his non-profit organization, JSAK. Just Snowboarding Ambitious Kids. It's for kids who don't come from a ton of money, but want to snowboard, which is expensive. Hmm, didn't Graham say on episode number one that he was THINKING about starting a children's charity? Well, here's The Riddler with a great one already up and running, he's three years younger than Graham, and he never had to mention a word about it. He's a good guy. DeAnna is all dumbfounded - thinking about her little life and her quest to put a stop to jilting bachelors. Here's an odd tidbit about The Riddler: he has labeled every shelf in his kitchen with a P-Touch label maker. Somehow that seems to clash with the plasma screen, but okay, I'll bite. We get a tour of his Hall of Snowboards and then see his log cabin bed, with a mini fridge next to it. There's that American bachelor! Then the doorbell rings and here are The Riddler's parents. His dad has totally long hair under a baseball cap, but wait! The hair is just part of the cap and his wife snatches it off of his head. Aw, a daddy with a sense of humor. That's actually quite funny. Perhaps too funny for serious little DeAnna.
Over dinner they talk about The Riddler's long hair and his dad asks if DeAnna is a share-er. Like, will she share her secrets? Is he kidding? She won't shut up. Next The Riddler and his dad sit down on the log cabin bed to talk things over. The Riddler says that DeAnna makes him feel the way he feels in a snowboarding competition. Well, let's not go crazy. I don't think she's all that exciting.
"She didn't even laugh at my long-hair-hat."

graham is just a smaller version of brad. i think it's safe to say that whoever she picks, it won't work out. deanna is just attracted to the chase.

Strange recap. Anyway, I like Jeremy. Don't care to spend too much time on Graham...sometimes a cigar is just a...well, you know.

The dog's name, Kemo, is short for "Kemosabe".
"Fran Striker, who wrote the scripts, was also the person who answered the fan letters to the Lone Ranger. He always started his replies with... "Ta-i ke-mo sah-bee" ("Greetings trusty scout")."

At this point, I'm liking DeAnna's top 3 choices.
At work, I said that, if she doesn't pick the riddler, I'm all over it...HE HAS LABELED CUPBOARDS! I have labeled light switches...it's a perfect match!
I also liked his parents. They just seem like a really down-to-earth family.
Jeremy's family scared me a tad. I get that they're on his side, and questioning her is part of the process of getting to know her...but did they need to let loose on her like that?
Jason's hometown: First off, she's never heard of the Space Needle? Is she serious??
I really like Jason. He seems really settled in his life. And how often is the father awarded full custody of his child? That really says alot about him.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have Graham. Blech!
First off...it's sad that high school is still such a huge part of his life. lol It's so big, he has to take his date there? What's with these people taking their dates back to their school?
I will never understand her attraction to this goober. He's not good looking, he doesn't really talk or open up...and WHO leaves someone with a letter sharing his feelings after never telling her in person? He's a total player!!! His plan was to have the last word and to leave HER thinking about HIM.
Admit it DeAnna...he's just not that into you!
Thank goodness he's gone! Good riddance.
Good for her telling him how it is though...he totally deserved that little meltdown from her!
Who will she pick? This could go 3 ways...this is the first time when the choice hasn't seemed so obvious.
I wonder about the Riddler. He seems like a really great guy, and she seems really taken with him...but snowboarding and that atmosphere is his life. I doubt he's willing to give that up, what with his charity and all...and I don't see her moving to CO. I think this could be their undoing.
That leaves Jeremy and Jason.
My pick is for Jason. There's just something about Jeremy that nags at me. But hey, at least he's not Graham!

Hmmm ... Gra-gra-graham cracker.
His school pic is gorgeous. I'm not so keen on the stubble and ultra-short hair on him, but that's just me.
It seems like he wants to take things gradually, but this show isn't about gradual, and perhaps if they'd met under different circumstances which regulated their time together (like that yet-to-be organization Graham envisions), things could possibly have worked. OTOH, I think DeAnna is too impatient by nature for someone like Graham. Despite the electricity they seemed to share, she pushes, and he won't have it.
A relationship between them would be WORK.
Wheeeee ...

I love your screen caps, as usual, they are fantastic!
The Riddler is a good guy, but he’s definitely NOT for DeAnna. It seems like DeAnna has her little list of things she wants one guy to be defined by, or at least molded into, and the Riddler is not him. I think it’s a huge a mismatch personality wise, and she’s intrigued because he is unlike the rednecks she’s dated before.
Jeremy’s house was pretty kick ass, I can definitely (sorry, I have to use ‘definitely’ like 300 more times) appreciate a man with a clean house. I was just watching the Trista bachelorette marathon that I DVRd, and when she went to that NY guys studio apartment in Manhattan you could see the terror on both her and my face.
Jeremy telling her he needs her, I think, is gold to DeAnna, I mean that is what she clearly needs is verbal affirmation after her being jolted by Brad. I think she might want to put some steak into what they are doing in addition to what they are saying as well. His brothers scared me; I’m not sure that’s the best tactic to make sure everyone gets along, if that is their goal.
When it was Jason’s turn, I found myself in the kitchen (of all places) more intrigued by my dirty dishes than what was going on on my tellie. Yawn.
Graham is “very very special.” – awesome. So funny.
“She starts bawling and says that she's saying goodbye to the ONE person she thought she was falling in love with. Well! Take that, whoever wins!” I think I had the most problem with this. What a stupid thing for DeAnna to say. First, how could it be true that GRAHAM was the only one she was in love with? Second, how *will* that make the winner feel when he sees that? And third, if it is true, why not give him some more time, maybe he’ll open up in time? My gosh – DeAnna just sucks more and more.
My roommate seems to think that Graham’s mom didn’t like her, cause she’s not really from the south, being Greek and probably orthodox. She thinks his mom deliberately threw Graham under the bus.
Excellent recap, very funny!!!

I actually think the Riddler is great, too - he needs someone a little cooler and more into his scene than Deanna.
I think Jeremy is a potential serial killer. He's really creepy. I also noticed that his brother had a baseball bat in between his knees while they were talking to Deanna. Jeremy's also so BORING! Unfortunately, I think he's the likely pick for Deanna. She kept talking about how much they have in common, but all I can see is that they both have deceased parents.
Graham has his own website. There's a bunch of model-esque pictures on it - is he an aspiring model? It also finally answered the question about his pro basketball career.....in GERMANY.

You can also become a "fan" of Graham Bunn, Athlete, on Facebook! Done and done. He's on my profile, right next to Nutella, which I am also a "fan" of.

"For the love of mercy, let me out of here!"- hahaha great screen cap. He was definitly DONE.

Hmmm, Nutella!!! Think I'd rather rub myself down in Nutella and sit in a Bear's cage than have anything to do with Mr. Bunn--what a douche, a tool, a LOSER!!! Does he even have a job? How in F is she supposed to go slow when she's only got 4 weeks for him to keep interest, which, BTW, he lost long ago with her. I'd love to beat her up for being sooooo stupid, but bless her heart, she's just as clueless as me . . .. sigh . . . either way, it's painful to see her sooo happy being around him, yeeeech!!!
Confession time, not sure I've ever cried watching any of these shows, but I nearly wept the entire Jason date--he doesn't do a thing for me physically, (actually none of them do) but I still fell for him, and Ty, and his family--they don't make 'em any sweeter than that, and I can tell when he watched D walk out with Douche, he knew all, her feelings, his, what would happen, etc. It's the kind of empathy I'd think you'd want in a life partner, and I'd spare myself a pregnancy and go with the adorable Ty who needs love too!!! He's still the only one to ask about her Mom, despite Jeremy's photo albums and diaries, I'm sorry, how long since she's died . . . I know I still miss my cat who died a few years ago, but life goes on . . . it's odd that he's still grieving so, and not dating, why? Because Mom was the love of his life?! I don't get it. He was also a grown man, D was 12--big dif!! and through it all, he never asked her a thing. I thought his pad was the bomb, but someone that anal is like a prison guard--prepare for tazing!!! There did seem to be some kind of elephant they kept tripping over, w/out ever addressing (like emotional probs?!) but I would say material girl D was right a f'in home there . . . yeech again! They still kiss the best . . . and she looks eerily like mom, and he needs her--RUN!!!! (I'll be sorry to see him hurt tho)
Riddler's fine, I like the crazy and family, but not a match . . .
My ? is, is Graham gay, is Jason???? Is it me???
Thanks Honey, I'm totally in line with your inner thoughts on this one . . .

The best part of the night was when DeAnna held up the basketball jersey of The Love Of Her Life and asked, "Is this your last name?"
13 of 22 | Posted by lagitha | Posted on June 27, 2008 1:36 PM
Haha, lagitha, nice call, I didn't catch that one. Good enough reason not to give him a rose though, a last name like. Dee-in-a-Bunn.
I didn't even bother to watch the Graham segment, I was already bored at the high school. You really have to wonder what this guy was hoping to achieve by coming on this show--he certainly wasn't looking for Deeana. Hmm...maybe it was just the prospect of bunking with 25 other hunky guys?
I get the feeling that Jeremy is really ill-at-ease in front of the cameras, but he's sincere about what he's doing there. And that he's also carrying a pretty deep hurt there. Something we're not privy to. I'm going to figure that the place was professionally cleaned before the show.
Jason...give me a break. There's just nothing there between him and Deeana, he's just there to whore out his kid...Wonder if the production staff have stock in Kleenex?
The Riddler lost me with the labels. That's just deranged. That and the snowboard cemetery. And second huge flat-screen tv.
So I'm guessing she'll go for Jeremy. Best fit. Even with the idiot older brother. (The younger one seemed cooler about it).

I am obviously the minority, but I love love love Graham. I need a man to be a man and not gush with emotion and feeling. I also do not get the knock on his non-serious relationship status. To me, it shows that he doesn't settle for every girl he meets. He doesn't take committment lightly.
Most people may not know this, but basketball players who play overseas actually make really good money. Most can semi-retire and kind of do their own thing after a few years overseas.
From his website (www.grahambunn.com), Graham has his own charity & some type of clothing line that enables charities to benefit children in need.
Jeremy creeps me out. He is ALWAYS serious. I just don't see it with him. He comes off as fake to me. I really found the previews more dramatic than the actual footage with his family.
I love Jesse, but I don't see him being "the one" for D.
I like Jason. I think that he would make the best match for DeAnna. He has all of those qualities that she really likes. I think that with Graham gone, she will really be able to connect with Jason.

You guys crack me up, talking about Nutella. Did you know that Kobe Bryant used to be its spokesman? His picture was right there on the label, right next to the words, "Kobe's favorite chocolate spread." And then he had his rape trial and I ~LAUGHED!~
I agree that Jason being awarded sole custody speaks highly of him -- but it also might speak extremely poorly of Ty's mother. No way to know. All I see is that he's a little bit too picture-perfect, from a shiny happy perfect little family, and I don't know what to make of it. Also, the show didn't visit Jason's or Graham's homes -- just those of their mothers. Coincidence?
I think she'll pick Jeremy or Jason, and it won't last. But she'll talk about how something's "breaking m'heart" a few more times.
I really think she should have picked Graham. They're both narcisstic and demanding. He's the only one of the last four who's as much a diva as she is. She'll get bored with anybody who doesn't make her work.
16 of 22 | Posted by Memememe | Posted on June 27, 2008 9:05 PM
I think the reason Graham's bedroom at his Mom's house still looks the same is that he still lives there. Jeremy is a debbie downer, but she'll probably pick him. I like Jason the best, I hope she gives him a break and chooses somebody else. The Riddler's snowboard wall will scare her off.

I had read some theories on other websites that Graham asked to be removed but the producers made him come to the rose ceremony so it could look like Deanna eliminated him, hence the casual dress, the pre-written letter, etc.
Deanna does not fit well with any of these 3 guys. There is no spark between her and Jason, Jesse is not the right guy for her, and there is something weird about Jeremy. She keeps saying he's perfect and he's the type you fall in love with, but she obviously isn't falling yet.
It gives me some smug, bitchy satisfaction to realize she won't meet her husband or soulmate on this show after she has dragged Brad Womack's good name through the mud at every opportunity for two hours every Monday night.
18 of 22 | Posted by DP Hooker | Posted on June 28, 2008 8:21 PM
Juddfan: YES!!! My gaydar is pretty spot-on, and the needle goes off the charts every time Jason comes on the screen!
You are not alone!
19 of 22 | Posted by Snarky | Posted on June 29, 2008 11:55 PM
That whole goodbye to Graham was so pathetic. The whole "the only one I was falling in love with" just reeked of drama queen. You know who says that? The person who just wants to stir up enough guilt in someone that they stay with you. Great strategy for finding your soulmate, Miss I'm-So-Smart-After-Getting-Burned-By-Brad-Womack!!
Idiot.
Jeremy, get a pre-nup.
20 of 22 | Posted by EZ Rider | Posted on June 30, 2008 12:13 PM
Thanks for the agreement snarky!!! Too funny if Graham asked to be removed-just friggin' say so then, why lead her on Brad, I mean Mr. Bunn--I'm sure she asked about the name because she thought he was making a funny about her ample curves . . .
Please, please, please let us know what the note says, Honey, I'm not sure I can get through the reunion . . .
As to her breakdown, is there anything worse than caring about someone who doesn't care, I've been guilty of trying to make that person care, dammit!!! But each time, I'm reminded of Bonnie's Raitt's famous tune . . . sigh . . .

Ok, I went to the facebook page. There are model picws of Graham one for an add for Moen faucets. So, very likely he went on the show for his "career" he has modeling pics on there one for ad add for Moen.
The Riddler stays in skiing or has no money. Neither will win Deanna's (heart) which would be MONEY to raise those 3 kiddos she needs to have soon!
Jason, I like him. Can she get over being a stepmom...maybe. What is wrong with the "real" mom that she did't want that adorable little boy? Will there be a pycho ex-wife out there?
Jeremy, too perfect. As she has said he would be the perfect man for "any" woman. Notice she didn't say for herself. Enough said...plus there are only 2 left now.
