The next day brings a fun-filled Bachelorette surprise - both guys are coming at the same time to meet DeAnna's extended family! The Riddler arrives first, houseplant in hand, and dives once again into the snowboarding saga. Then the doorbell rings. GASP! There's Jason doing a little dance at the door because he's so excited to meet the grandparents. But the jig is up as he walks into the living room and the dreadful truth sets in. They both feel like idiots, as was the intention, and everyone tries to carry on as normal in this contrived set up. This is so stupid and would never happen, and I don't really want to spend a whole lot of time on this crap, so I'll just mention the important things.
The Riddler teaches DeAnna's grandparents how to "nug," or fist bump, the sister and sister-in-law remind The Riddler that Brad dumped DeAnna, the grandparents seem to prefer Jason, but the sister-in-law thinks that The Riddler is the most "real." Real what? Real rad? Oh, also The Riddler works up the nerve to ask Greg for permission to propose, so now everyone has paid sufficient homage to DeAnna and her mighty father. And Greg tells The Riddler that he has to keep his hair cut if he's going to be with DeAnna, then they "nug" and "blow it up," meaning a fist bump followed by a flex of the entire hand. Very, very mature and classy.
After DeAnna does a dual walk to the car with the two guys, her family naturally has very little helpful advice. The sister seems to lean toward Jason while the sister-in-law leans toward The Riddler. The sister's argument is that Jason is clearly ready and willing to settle down, which is what DeAnna claims to want. The sister-in-law says that Jason is way ahead of where DeAnna wants to be, that DeAnna is a free spirit, and that she should go with the snowboarder. DeAnna is simply clueless. And that's the understatement of the century.
Embarking on the next segment we discover that Jeremy is back to plead his case once again. DeAnna tells us she wishes she could be like Brad and just run away from all of this, but since she is a much bigger, better person than Brad is, she will deign to let Jeremy speak with her one last time. This was clearly filmed before DeAnna's hometown because Jeremy is still here in the Bahamas and he comes over to DeAnna's hotel room to have it out with her. DeAnna has already turned on the waterworks when Jeremy knocks on the door. He tells her that she's making a big mistake, he reminds her that his mom died, and begs her to reconsider.
"They said if I did this I could be the next Bachelor."
DeAnna bawls that Jeremy is everything she wanted on paper, but it's just not in her heart to be with him. She tells him that she has deeper feelings for the other two guys, and she respects Jeremy too much to drag him along and lead him on as was so cruelly done to her. Jeremy turns to the producers and asks if he can go now that he did what they ordered and came back for one lest beg down. He's excused. But like a good boy, he squats on the pavement and sobs.
The next day DeAnna meets The Riddler bright and early in front of a little seaplane for the day's adventures. They fly over to a little secluded island where they wade from the plane to the beach. DeAnna very perceptively points into the water and says, "There's fish!" Well done, DeAnna. It looks like mostly what they spend the day doing is making out on the beach, then making out in the water, then they take a boat back to the main island and their hotel. The Riddler presents DeAnna with his Last Chance Gift, which is a photo album of their time together, along with little notes written for every picture. It does not look like a guy's handwriting to me, but whatever. It's probably the same production assistant who does the Date Box notes.
Snowboarding scrapbook artist - he'll be a great mom.

dear lord! deanna has been crucified all week for picking jesse. i don't get why. i think he's a nice guy. jason was just too corny. HOWEVER, i was in breck last weekend, and there was a LOT of shit talking. apparently, the entire town thinks he's a douche, and he's gonna dump her shortly if he hasn't already. we'll see. i hope they last.

Honey Gangsta, You are Hilarious!! I laughed all the way through this recap. But I missed the recaps early on I guess, because I can't remember why you gave that guy the nickname of "The Riddler". (man was that guy fugly)

Ok so this was insane. I have so much to say. First of all, I read on another site that you can see the backdrop changing when Jason is up there (white flowers, then pink ones behind him), and it's totally edited out when they talk before he gets on one knee...you can tell Deanna's voice is dubbed in when she goes "No, I can't."
Could you imagine if she had had to share the Womack Clan (Brad, Chad and Rad) with Jenni on that final date like she did to these sacks? That was bs.
Nothing like being superficial GREG - "You better never have long hair when you date my daughter, dickbag!"
Jesse definitely did not write the notes in that little scrapbook. It was fruitier than most girls' handwriting.
Did any one else get the idea that Jason's wife left him for another woman? It made me laugh when he said "another person" or whatever he said.
The comment Jason made about never feeling like this before about anyone "I thought i felt this way about my ex" is standard to tell anyone you are dating now. How many people have said "I thought I was in love in the past, but NEVER anything like this." It didn't surprise me in the least that he would downplay his feelings for his ex-wife like that.
I can't believe Deanna basically said nothing to either guy in the final rose ceremony; you could tell she just wanted them to continue to heap on the praise and adoration so she could milk a few more minutes out of it.
My mom didn't watch any of the show but thought it was so over the top fake how Deanna and Riddler were acting. "Oh hunnneeeee" has replaced "breakin' maah heart" as the most tired phrase, after only one episode! I just thought they were trying to prove to themselves and the audience that they were in fact in love.
This recap was hilarious, and your screencaps were great too. "Lose a turn for throwing a tantrum." LOL - "Move back five spaces when you realize the world doesn't revolve around you." "Lose another turn for mentioning brad AGAIN."
I'm sure the producers told Jesse to ask her dad about proposing since they didn't want him to look like any more of a dumbass.
Finally, "DeAnna says she would have been shocked if Jason HADN'T asked. Of course, DeAnna. Who isn't dying to marry you?" I know and it rhymes with RAD!!

Thanks so much, Honey, for your great recaps!
I totally agree with you that she picked Jesse because he would be easier to get rid of. I truly think she's still going to try and get back in touch with Graham some kind of way. The way she & Jesse were going at it on the final show was so fake.

What a crock...she spent however many weeks telling the world that she was ready to settle down and have a family (kids by the time she's 30 or whatever) and then she picks some freewheeling snowboarding hippie, the very anithesis of "settling down". I feel betrayed and lied to!
Don't get me wrong, I liked them both (the first time EVER in Bachelor/ette history that I liked both people in the final two), but I was rooting for Jason. What a fool you are DeAnna! Poor Jason, I kept feeling like he needed a hug or something with those sad puppy dog eyes he had. You will find love again Jason, don't let that self-centered spotlight loving fake convince you otherwise!

Your recaps are hilarious.
Never watched the show, but (unlike you, our long suffering recapper) I didn't have to.
"I may not support the show, but I support our recappers." (accompany with ponderously patriotic music)
Thanks much!

in response to DP Hooker...apparently Jason actually did his entire proposal before DeAnna told him she was choosing Jesse. Thats why that part is so edited and the "No I cant" is dubbed in. They probably just didn't show it because that would be too sad for Jason and make her look even more awful than she already does.
Funny recap! I loved how Jason called her out on Graham...AGAIN

Oh so many things to say, but I'll keep it short.
First off, thanks HG for recapping the Bachelor/ette shows! You always seem to say exactly what I'm thinking as I'm watching the episodes.
2nd, I actually enjoyed this season, but I will agree that mentioning and badmouthing Brad EVERY.SINGLE.EPISODE. was too much! She needs to move on already. I don't think what he did was so bad. At least he was honest.
3rd, THE RIDDLER? REALLY?!?? I liked him for a while early on, but I think it had more to do with him being the long shot.
His meeting with her family was excruciating...and what was with all the fist bumps? Please!
4th, I agree that ATFR was too over the top. It seemed they were trying too hard to convince everyone that their love is real. "OH HUNNNNNNNNEEEEEE!" BARF!
But she did seem to look at him like she was in love during ATFR, so I don't know.
I'm sure there are a million other things to point out, but I'll stop here.
Before I sign off though, did ya'll know that they now have a web page devoted to their relationship? Haha!
www. deannaandjessie .com (without the spaces of course. I didn't know if I could provide a link on here.)
If this doesn't prove their love, I don't know what will!

pixyamiga, I saw your comment after I submitted mine.
I can't believe she made him go through his whole speech before she said no. That's disgusting!
He said he wished she hadn't let him get down on his knee, but I thought he was just being dramatic (even though that didn't seem to go with the personality we saw from him.)
9 of 24 | Posted by ThisShowRocks! | Posted on July 11, 2008 11:41 AM
Hmm . . . efk2020, tell us more about Breck . . . that's interesting!
I don't mind either guy, I can see the riddler having a bit more bad boy sex appeal, but we all know how long that lasts, I totally stand corrected, as I never in ONE MILLION YEARS thought D was going to go with the guy with the snow boards on the walls!
Lame that Jeremy came back to grovel some more . . . and creepy . . . I hope he stalks her!
D's bro is a cool cucumber with the "I don't hug"--did he hug Brad, anyone remember?
Obviously Jason was the settle down with choice, but if it's true his wife left him for another woman, as DP Hooker suggests, I would say that's a better chance he might be gay himself (or am I just wishfully thinking) . . . don't know why the gaydar's pinging, but it could have come down to the fantasy suite nights . . . that kind of chemistry is hard to fake.
I could see the greater attraction D had for R in this last epi, but I already knew the conclusion, so it doesn't mean anything, just the whole hands on the thigh etc.
So, many many thanks to you Honey G! The one screencap of the sister next to Jessie, she's totally checking out the goods!!!
Well, good luck D + R, kahem, and much love to you Jason, if you're out there reading this, hopefully you'll get hooked up soon, you're waaaay tooo sweet to not get snatched up!!!

To ThisShowRocks!.... I know its horrible! Here is a quote from a Seattle paper that interviewed Jason:
"On what TV viewers may have missed:
"The whole (marriage) proposal. The show made it look like I got down on my knee and she brought me right back up. I talked to her for a while down there. It was a lot longer of a process. I felt disrespected (by DeAnna). That is something I would never do to anybody. I wish they showed more of that moment.""

I'm pretty sure at least some of the guys that come on this show are recruited... I read an article that was posted on one of the comments section about Fred from Chicago and he said he was approached outside a restaurant somewhere in Chicago, they were like you're funny and cute, are you interested in going on the bachelorette and he said no, but i guess he ended up getting interviewed because he made it on the show.. he also said he had no clue who Deanna was before he went on the show.
my friend's boyfriend was walking down the street in downtown chicago and someone came up to him and said he looked like a cute and nice guy, would he be interested in going out for the bachelorette, they also asked him if he was seeing anyone.. he said no.
Last november I found a posting on craig's list for bachelor tryouts, and i sent it to my roommate because she always used to talk about going on the bachelor if she didn't have a boyfriend after graduating college.. well her and another friend went to a club in chicago to try out, they both had boyfriends at the time, they had to fill out a few questions and then had like 3 minute interviews, neither of them got a call back. I went with just to see who would show up to something like this and it was an interesting crowd. I felt sort of bad for some of the girls...
anyway, i'd love to work on a reality show like this to see what REALLY happens behind the scenes

Great recap Honey G!
OMG I can't believe she picked The Riddler. The guy had an anxiety attack on tv just picking out the ring. Like he is a keeper. Deanna just has to be the center of attention. I have never seen someone so self centered. She needs to grow up. It would have been bad with Jason cause she is going to break up with any guy who doesn't lavish attention on her 24/7/ Why? Why does she think she is so special. Also, the way she talks short words anyone notice that? It was so annoying. Jeremy is just too needy they would have been perfect for each other. Grahm is a model-he did this to be seen.

As much as I don't understand her picking Jesse and didn't see it coming at all, there is part of me that really hopes that it works out for them. Maybe it's just the romantic in me.
However, has anyone else heard that Jesse was also on MTV's Made? He was the coach of a girl who wanted to be a snowboarder. I wonder if the producers saw him there and sought him out since they obviously seek out guys for the show.
14 of 24 | Posted by blazergirl | Posted on July 11, 2008 6:21 PM
wow.. poor jason. I liked Jesse though.
ThisShowRocks: The link you provided doesn't go to a website, just a parked page. And I removed the spaces.. Hmm... wonder what that means!?!? lol
And I wonder what Deanna thought after seeing Jesse pull an even more dramatic Brad just before buying that ring.

ahh.. tried the site again spelling it "jesse" (no "I") this time... oh boy..!

I've read your recap first time and... man it's great!!!
I like your irony, sense of humor and the fact you see everything!
About the show:
I was (like other poeple in the beggining) Dee's admirer after evil Brad left her and slowly, but surely, my opinion about her has changed drastically.
She is immensely vain person and when I saw her family and their dinamic I realized who she is - the princess of the house. It seems like everybody has task in that house to adore her. Her poor (must say not so pretty) sister is astonish by her, as well as the rest of the family. Common, be decent, have a boundaries!!!
And why she mentioned Brad so many times? Again because she is vain. Somebody refused a princess?!? That is impossible! And she revenged any time she had chance to say something bad about him.
And this is a question for me: why somebody who wants to have 3 kids by 30 (so she has 4 years for everything) have chosen a guy who is cluless about future, who is not ready to be dad...
And man he almost threw up on his way to buy a ring! Wow! I would thinks not twice, but 200 times before jumping in that adventure.
The guy is just not ready, not ready!!!
Thanks again for great recap!

Since I have zero emotional investment in this show (in any of reality show), I just go with the flow, accept it all as 'reality', works much better that way.
I'm not sure I get the criticism of Deanna as being self-centered. Who do you people expect her to be: Mother Teresa? Moses? Al Gore?
I mean, the show IS about her and her 'quest' for love. And it's not like she chose what is edited in, and what is edited out. And we don't get to see the part where the producers keep feeding her lines, or at least loaded questions (about Brad, Graham, etc. Same goes with the family).
To me, she comes off as reasonably intelligent (well, she's been on the show twice...), fairly confident, and sassy enough to have a backbone - she's not a wilting flower type, that's for sure.
It makes sense that she'd chose a Jesse -- relaxed, fun, moderately successful at a job he loves to do, willing to set up his own charity, etc., strong enough to know who he is, anyway --than one of those creepy emotionally broken types, like a Jason, Jeremy (and that Ron guy --you know he's spent years in therapy). Or a self-absorbed child-man like Graham or Ryan (this show's Evil Christian character).
Anyway, it's over. I prefer the Bachelor, girls are nicer to look at.

I really think DeAnna made the right choice. As much as she talked about settling down, she is only 26 and works as a bartender. I can't see her wanting to be a stepmommy.
Never understood why she was so mad about Brad's decision. Was it because he chose no one? Would it really have been better to lose to Jenni? The result would be the same - he didn't want to be with DeAnna. The premise of the show is to string someone along until the very last second. I really hate that part of it, even more now after hearing about what happened to Jason during his proposal, but ABC will never change that because it is dramatic.
I loved how Jason mentioned on ATFR the way DeAnna looked at Graham and she replied that she always tells Jesse that she has no idea what she saw in Graham. Hahahaha sure D, whatever you say...

July 8, 2009
Jesse and DeAnna will be on America's Best Dance Crew THURSDAY Night.
Jesse and DeAnna will be throwing out and catching the first pitch at the Dodger's game this Thursday July 10!

It's www.deannaandjesse.com, not jesseanddiana.com...
And frankly, I don't see why Jesse being nervous about buying a ring is proof that he's not ready for something serious. She was dating another guy, forcryingoutloud, he had no idea if she would say yes. I would be more disturbed if he wasn't nervous...sheesh

This Thursday is not July 10. That would be LAST Thursday. Was that a serious post, wincha?

I wonder if all the media backlash will affect DeAnna and Jesse's "relationship." It's gotta be hard for them both. Especially if they just assumed that their "love story" was being cut appropriately by the editors. Jesse got a bad cut...I think DeAnna, based on what we know about her, could be disappointed that their "love" isn't getting the positive media attention she wanted.
23 of 24 | Posted by dani2526 | Posted on July 14, 2008 5:30 PM
I don't even know what to say about the outcome. It was the weirdest episode of the whole season, that's for sure. He seems aight I guess...she is someone I would never be friends with. She's obviously demanding and self-centered. And why does she have a completely different look and skin tone than every other member of her family?
I give them 5 months.
