The next morning the dudes sit around their suite with their sunglasses on, which is incredibly cool, and not at all as douchey as it sounds. Frankie The Matchmaker presses Superbrody to hook up with Lauren, and it's really refreshing to see the words come out of his mouth. No back of the head shots for Frankie. The girls lounge poolside, and Lo bitches some more about Bustin not talking to her and not drinking the shot. Get over it. Go fuck some guy in a cabana. It's Vegas. Perhaps she can hear me because that night, twisted out of their minds, Lo and Frankie make out. Then Brody asks Lauren for a birthday kiss. She plants one on him. They both seem pleased with themselves afterwards. Brody dances like a dad at a wedding.
The girls crawl up to Brody's suite and lay around on the rotating bed. Fucking Lo won't drop the shit and starts in on Deadrina about Bustin. "He HATES us," she slurs, lying on her back and holding her drink upright. "We're trying to be nice." Party rule #113: If you can't sit up, do not discuss your problems about anything. Deadrina says he's trying, too, but he really doesn't have to open up to anyone but her. And she's totally right. The girls don't care, so they say he won't even say hi, etc. etc. Deadrina sarcastically tells them she'll blow him off and never talk to him again to make them all happy. It cuts too close to the bone for our heroine, who can't STAND the insinuation that she's got a pattern that is evident to everyone but her. She leaves, and pouts by the pool. Deadrina leaves the suite, drunk and dejected, but why did they use this shot and who are these people?
Is your refrigerator running?
Over at the most romantic restaurant in the world if you don't get the beans, Speidi celebrate their first year together. Don has cordoned off the area around their special booth and decorated with rose petals and candles. "I wish it could always be like this," says The Monchichi. "Just the two of us, and a camera crew." Heidi's phone rings and we see the beginnings of mogwai in The Chi. "They say it's rude to answer the phone at anniversary dinners," he says with a caress of a threat in his voice. It's Michelle from Bolthouse on the phone, and she tells Heidi the Emmy event is a mess. "Elodie's not there?" Heidi asks, in her new I'm-the-boss voice. No, says Michelle. "She said she would cover this event," says Heidi. There's a pause, and we hear the most glorious words: "Elodie quit. Yesterday was her last day." WOOO HOOOO! Burn, Heidi, burn! I don't know how Elodie orchestrated this without Heidi knowing, but it is awesome! Heidi hangs up and tells Spencer she has to go. He looks like the husband in "Sleeping With the Enemy." "I love you," says Heidi. "No you don't, " Spencer responds, all his crazy, creepy, controlling, teeth-baring synapses firing. Did his dad miss too many little league games?
I wish Elodie was a bigger character on the show so we could see her sitting at home, 3 quarters of her way through a good bottle of Chalk Hill, her cats batting around a little Heidi doll with pins in it.
Superbrody tries to save the day (ie get laid) when our drunken heroine starts moaning about Deadrina leaving and Bustin being a jerk. The two of them are cuddling on the sofa and LC is lying down with a drink in her hand. (See Party Rule #113). He tells her Bustin really only has a problem with Lo, so let it go. LC goes in for the kiss hover, slurring that he has to promise not to stand up for Bustin anymore because he's not making her feel like the gift that she is. Faced with that ultimatum, Superbrody opts for the kiss on the forehead and a nap. Party Rule #54: Shut the fuck up if you want to get fucked.
I wish I brought my Mac.

First time poster but long time reader. Hilarious! I would totally hop on the "Root for Elodie" campaign--just tell me where to send the letter. Ugh...Heidi and Spencer make my skin crawl.
I also had the same reaction to FFG. Where has she been the past 3 (?) years? And I think Lo is maybe better in small doses. She got more screen time than usual and that led to her downfall.
Oh yeah, and "Hi" Ting Lee's mom... I can't get my mom to watch anything but Oprah so bravo for watching this mind-numbing crap just to read Ting's recaps.

Elodie was priceless! She so deserves her own show. It goes to show you that if Heidi didn't know that Elodie was leaving it meant that no one in the office told her. Which I find unbelievable in a small office like that but then again, no one there likes her.
And interestingly, someone I know called Bolthouse and Heidi isn't listed in the company phone directory so I wonder if she still does work there. Or did they just not include her because she was getting so many hate calls?
Like everyone else, I was like who the hell is Jill??

Is it me (and yes showing my age) but does The BoltHouse Turd look like bizzaro Ross from Friends? Just a thought.
The best would be Elodies's new show coinsiding with Spedi's new marriage show. Elodie could be the wedding planner, zany antics insue.
(don't have time to spell check so I won't)

The scripted nature of this show is really starting to bother me. Brody's birthday is August 21st, the same as mine (sad that I know that), and the Emmy's were in September so all these events were basically a month apart.
The Elodie storyline was really staged to the point of almost being unwatchable. I really don't understand what Spencer and Heidi are hoping to achieve with this show.
Strong recap though Ting.
8 of 55 | Posted by boolaw | Posted on October 3, 2007 2:09 PM
I agree that the Elodie storyline was completely staged and set up. I'm starting to feel like my intelligence is being insulted, MTV! I highly doubt that on something as important as the Emmy red carpet that Bolthouse would tell Heidi, "I don't care what you do as long as it's covered." Or that at an event as important as the Emmys they wouldn't know until people were all ready walking the carpet that Elodie wasn't there. The whole thing seems shady.
And even though I know he's an overprivelidged hanger-on, I'm embarrased to admit I'm starting to get a huge crush on Superbrody. It seems like the interaction between him and Lauren is one of the few things that is still real on this show.
Great recap Ting!

Okay, I get it. You really think you're funny with your fantasy things, but ease up a bit. The recap would have been better.

If you dont like the recaps as they are you don't have to read them. I think it was great, fantasy and all. There are other blogs that recap the Hills too.
11 of 55 | Posted by NoName | Posted on October 3, 2007 3:29 PM
I love how upset people get when others voice their opinions on the recaps. If I had a disclaimer before hand that said "warning, I didn't recap, so much as write down my own fantasy version" then maybe I would have moved on, but it didn't, so I read it, and it was too much. That's all I'm saying.
The recaps for FNL and Top Model have been great. This one, not so much.

I'm sorry if you think I got upset, I didn't at all. I don't know if you read any other comments on previous recaps but there has been a bit of negative feedback on the fantasies since the beginning of the season, but it's part of Ting's style so you just kind of have to be up on it. I know it throws you off sometimes unless you watch the show closely. There are other sites with different styles of recaps I just could not post URLs in my comment so I couldn't share :(

I'd be interested in the percentage of lines during this show that are spoken without us seeing the person actually saying it.
It seems like at least half of the dialogue is dubbed in.

Ting Lee!!! Great recap as usual! Can i just say that I FRICKIN HEART ELODIE!!! i have so much respect for her that she decided to heck with dolthouse, turd, and the plastic half of speidi:) Oh and i am having a toughtime deciding who is the bigger *cough* douchebag *cough* bustin or monchichi, they are both so lame!!!

great recap! although i have never liked spencer in the first place and have always just viewed him as a pure douchebag he actually did remind me of the husband from Sleeping with the ENemy...i really though he was going to take his butter knife and slit heidi's throat. I could only wish for a man that is as sincere and understanding as Spencer...

What is so wrong with Justin/Bobby? Why does everyone hate him so much? It seems like he treat Audrina good, so why all the hatred?
17 of 55 | Posted by jozeyg | Posted on October 3, 2007 4:43 PM
Spencer frightened me. When I first met my (now hubby of 15 years), I was in the events industry and got called away almost every weekend in the middle of dinner. And NEVER did I get a reaction like Heidi got. I just want her to RUN as fast as she can away from marrying that scary self absorbed tool!
18 of 55 | Posted by nhmom | Posted on October 3, 2007 5:05 PM
I wasn't enjoying the recap until I hit the "but why did they use this shot and who are these people?" line, and then the screencap with "Is your refrigerator running?" At that point, I just about fell out of my chair laughing. I was wondering the same thing! And it wasn't a quick shot of the strangers on the couch, either - the camera actually lingered on them like we were supposed to know who they were. Thank God I wasn't the only one stumped. And the "refrigerator" line is awesome!
Loved Elodie! How on earth did Heidi not see that one coming, though? She clearly looked taken aback by Elodie's willingness to help after last week's sarcastic shoot-down, and yet she bought it - is she really that egotistical? "Of COURSE Elodie still loves me - I'm HEIDI!"
And does anyone else think it's just painful to watch Brent try to smile? It makes me cringe.
Score one for Heidi, though - when Spencer went ballistic at her having to leave dinner for work, she *did* point out to him that "you wanted me to get this promotion, too, you know." At least she made an attempt to pin *something* on him.
What was up with the "This season on The Hills" bit at the end? Are we going on hiatus or something?
19 of 55 | Posted by Mandymax | Posted on October 3, 2007 5:59 PM
As much as I hate Heidi for doing what she did to Elodie, I Brent Bolthouse more. But whatevs.
The reason I don't like Bustin is why "party" with Dead's friends when he clearly doesn't like them. Just sit out this trip and take Dead out some other time. When my husband and I were dating he didn't like all my friends so he just didn't tag along when he knew they would be there. He didn't show up and make faces at them. THAT would have pissed me off.

Funny recap, Ting. "Fuck you, literally" (and anything else, figuratively) may have to become a new catchphrase.
Add me to those who can't quite buy the Elodie/Emmy/Don Cesar scenario, but to fake all that would require so much more than just Speidi plotting back at the fake condo. So confusing.
This show is likely the Reality Version of crack. As this season progresses, with the drama/fakeness ratcheting ever-upwards, I'm left feeling kind of sweaty and nauseous, and I know it's not good for me, but then I see the scenes from upcoming episodes, and I know I will be watching everyone... D*mn you Hills!
21 of 55 | Posted by Lime23 | Posted on October 3, 2007 6:27 PM
Lo is so pretty.
I don't think it would be a good idea in any way for Lauren to even consider taking Heidi back as a "friend". And as for Jenn Bunny, I'd keep her pretty much at a distance too. If I was Lauren, Jenn wouldn't ever be more than an acquaintance from now on.
I remember reading somewhere that Jenn did something to come between Lauren and Lo (made up a story or something). So I definitely wouldn't trust her, especially with the other things she's done.
I know. I want to see more of Elodie. I hope she got a better position.

I have to agree with neillfilm, the fantasy bits are a little too much. I don't read recaps for my fiction entertainment, a bit of balance would be good.
And as far as going somewhere else to read our recaps, I'm sure tvgasm are really in favour of your suggestion to support other sites, rather than taking on board some constructive criticism.
23 of 55 | Posted by miss tint | Posted on October 3, 2007 8:05 PM
Well said, Miss Tint. Nothing wrong with a little constructive criticism or disagreement with what the recapper has written.
I, too, have felt insulted by MTV for the oh so obvious editing and dubbed in dialogue. If there isn't enough drama happening to make up the show, then perhaps it's time to end it, instead of so blantantly changing things. It's so distracting. And are they forgetting a little thing called the internet, where there are posts about when Brody's birthday is (as someone mentioned) and when the Emmys are, etc. It's too annoying for me now.

"The chorus of Chuckie dolls flip the toilet lids over, revealing black and white spirals on the other side. They spin them at Heidi, hypnotizing her. The Monchichi gazes at his conquest lovingly as he sings "Whoooo wooouldn't waant yooooou as a daaaaughter iiiin laaaaaw?" In the movie version, the camera will pan to the township, where different peasants will swing open their shutters and barn doors and sing "Me!" "Me!" "Me!" It'll be Phantom of The Opera meets The Princess Bride meets Showgirls."

Please MTV, hire TING LEE to caption the Hills for DVD sale!!!!
I would so buy it. And Elodie, I love you, please do your own show or blog or something. I want to see how to make a Heidi and Spencer doll set!!!!
Spencer is a scary chick, sorry dude or as my kids say dudette. I dated a controlling guy, and believe me right after the part where you lose all of your friends, you start to doubt absolutely every thought you have. So you run them by your man (or chick in this case) and that's when you need someone to show you the way back to the "real world".
As far as that Bolthouse character, I understand that this is a scripted show, but you would have to pay me a lot of money to make a business owner look as childish and screwed up as this guy. IF you needed a PR firm in We HO, would you hire this firm?????? He looks like an idiot, I hope MTV paid him for this. If not, he's a very bad business man in real life, not just in "The Hills".
Go ELODIE GO!!! WHOOO HOOO!!!

I agree with Miss Tint and mo knows. There's nothing wrong with a little constructive criticism.
I am not a big fan of the "fantasies" except when they illustrate a point about what really happened in a funny way. The last couple of recaps were really good, but this one read like it was written at the beginning of the season.
As everyone has been saying, MTV is insulting our intelligence with all the fakeness. When are they going to realize that the real story is always more entertaining?
Additionally, I disagree with the notion that LC has a "pattern" with isolating her friends' boyfriends. Seriously, it could happen to anyone who has had two consecutive roommates with extremely bad taste in men. I blame Heidi 100% for what happened between Spencer and Lauren. If she had never blabbed to him that Lauren didn't think he was being a good boyfriend to Heidi, he would have never started to see Lauren as the enemy, granted only a huge douche like Spencer would react to that news with such vileness and hatred! Similarly, if Audrina feels that she is the only one Justin should "open up to", then , seriously, she should stop shoving him down her friends' throats. Why invite Lauren to a lunchdate with Justin or to a Vegas trip with the girls if he's going to be nothing but rude the whole time? Why force him on them and vice versa if "I'm the only one he should be opening up to"? Go hang out with him by yourself then!
Moreover, I think that Audrina over-reacted when Lo pointed out that Justin was being rude, and I think that is why Lauren left the room, not because Aud was pointing out some "evident" pattern. I think it is really silly to complain about your boyfriend's shortcomings to your roommate who genuinely cares about you and then expect her to adore him. Who's with me?

As someone who has recapped before:
It's obvious that the fantasy bits are part of Ting's style. Ting was probably asked to write the Hills because someone bigger at TVGasm thought that Ting's writing was good and that the style suited the program.
It can be difficult to completely readjust your writing style because some people in the comments section decide that they don't like it. Keep that in mind when you give your constructive criticism. I think that Ting Lee has shown lots of improvement and even some adjustment for those calling for it. Ting Lee is the recapper for the Hills, so instead of constructively criticizing EVERY entry, try adjust yourself a bit.
As for the fantasy bits, I personally love them, because 80-100% of this show is fantasy anyway. I think that people that watch the Hills should have no problem distinguishing the fantasy from the reality (in the recap and on the show). So great job for recapping a show with such a strong following Ting Lee!

Thanks HereKittyKitty.. I think you phrased what I was trying to say better. The fantasy bits got lots of critisizm but have not gone away so I don't know if more constructive cristizm would change anything. I also was not trying to direct anyone away from reading TVGasm recaps, so TVGasm I am sorry if it came across that way. It was more of a "take it or leave it" message.
33 of 55 | Posted by NoName | Posted on October 4, 2007 8:59 AM
Lol.. this show has just moved beyond the point of being at ALL believable...
The Elodie storyline was so lazy! I mean, if you want to fake a situation for TV, at least make the conversation believable. Heidi goes up to Elodie and says something along the lines of "So you have it all covered tomorrow night... y'know.. the Emmys... my anniversary.. and um...the Emmys." If it was a real life situation there would be very little need to keep mentioning the word "Emmys" because I think it'd be fairly obvious what big event the boss is referring to, not to mention there would be more details and instruction to work out rather than the fact that, indeed, they are working the Emmys.
And Lauren's storylines are just as staged, just much better acted. As if we're supposed to believe that cameras follow Brody around for The Hills all the time too?

Did anyone else catch when Heidi and Spencer were talking about him telling her about his parents that she said something like "We've been living with them" I don't know her exact words but I wonder if they live in that condo too. Also, how many times did they have to mention their anniversary, they probably said it 20 times, it's an anniversary of them dating, it's not that big a deal!

Great recap. I loved the Bside days... and this was just as funny. I say, keep the fantasy stuff (especially the Heidi/Spencer musical... I laughed out loud at the "Me!" "Me!"); that's the purpose of this recap. You can get the real story anywhere.
Also, I've been a watcher since Laguna's First Season... and I must I agree with those saying that this show is becoming way too contrived. It's ALMOST not enjoyable to watch anymore. I'm sick of the dubbing, I'm sick of the fake story lines, and I'm sick of Heidi and Spencer's engagement. MTV needs to do better work next season.

BonaFide -
I am SO with you! I totally agree. JustinBobby is always so RUDE! And Lo had every right to point it out, and I think Audrina overreacted - probably because of the alcohol... girl could hardly speak!!
I hate how people completely disregard their friends when they get into a relationship. The friends will be there in the long run, the boyfriend won't. Audrina should care how her boyfriend treats her friends. And if he doesn't like them, then fine, DON'T HANG OUT WITH THEM!!
I think everyone is too hard on Lauren about her opinions of her friend's boyfriends. She is a TRUE friend and is only trying to look out for her friends, not trying to keep them all to herself. She learned a big lesson with Speidi and I think is doing a much better job of staying out of the situation with Audrina and JustinBobby.
41 of 55 | Posted by TeamCockerSpaniel | Posted on October 4, 2007 12:43 PM
I think everyone gives LC too much shit as well. We've all had a friend that was dating some asshole that we hated and we talked about it with our friend. LC is doing the same thing all girls do, it's just on TV. What no one mentions is the fact that she's RIGHT! Spencer is a creepy little fame seeking dork and Justin Bobby is one of those slacker losers that is obnoxious and angry all the time because he's and "individual". He can't be nice or pleasant or laugh at a joke cuz that's what "the masses" do. He can kiss my ass! I hate people who are so cool and above it all. His nose is bent out of shape because Lo teased him and his cool cover was blown. If he can't be civil, he shouldn't hang out with them. I used to think Audrina was a cool chick, but she's proven to be needy and insecure. Why else would she want to be with a dick that left her in another state? Stupid bitches drive me up the fucking wall!!!!
Love Elodie! even though I too find it hard to believe that the fact that she was leaving wasn't common knowledge. Don't most people get a card or some other going away gesture? Especially in a small office? I'm calling bullshit on the big surprise.

I mean it's fine if that's Ting's style but at what point does it stop being a recap and start just being a work of fiction using some characters we know from the show?
I think it's getting very close to that point and since this is a recap website, people have a right to expect that they'll understand what happened during the show from reading the recap.
Like I said before, to me, it just needs more balance.

the_baddest_bitch --
You characterized Justin/Bobby PERFECTLY, not to mention hilariously. I totally agree that Lauren doesn't deserve the crap that she gets for "being too overprotective" -- I don't think she was ever inappropriate in her comments about Justin or her interactions with him. If anything, she was just trying to be nice and avoid another Speidi situation. Audrina was such a bitch on the spinny bed thing. Eww I don't like her as Lauren's friend... I feel like she has no backbone, is super insecure, and is kinda using Lauren... I don't get why Lauren likes her so much.

lc is pathetic loser. she is attracted to losers in an attempt to find a loser more pathetic than herself. she loves loser #1 jason for gods sake. what more do you need to know about her personality defects? jason is far and away a bigger loser than both spencer and bustin. she needs to shut the hell up and let her loser girlfriends make the same mistakes she made.... "she should just eat her pinkberry and enjoy life".

I hadn't had a chance to see this episode yet when I read the recap. That's one of the great things about TVgasm recaps - you can catch up on missed shows on here. However, the fantasy bits seriously detract from that.
I think if you were to follow up the fantasy bits with what really happened, that would help tremendously.
And Cheez - is that really you?

Me. Big time. This idea that LC is too involved in her friends love lives is just nonsense. She hasn't been involved with Justin at all, except to give Audrina good advice. And, she even censored herself on that front. She only met with him on Audrina's insistence and then had to suffer through the awfulness that is Justin at dinner. Lo was the one ragging on Justin to Audrina and it was completely justified, imo. So, she called him JustinBobby. BFD. It's like he was born without a sense of humor. And, he acts like a retarded 3 year old. He sulks. He makes rude comments, he pouts, he screws up his face, he sulks some more.
Back to Lauren, she's hardly trying to isolate Audrina from Justin. Would she be taking trips with them if she were? Heidi and Satan were another story and that was because Spencer actively did things to hurt Lauren. And, LC's anger at Heidi was about much more than just Spencer.

Hey Tink!
No that Cheez is NOT the original USDA Cheez-Whiz.
You can tell by the punctuation, anyway it's kind of hilarious that someone out there wants to impersonate one of the all-time most offensive commentors on the site.
I wrote in last week, I've been out of commission -I had meningitis this summer and have been pretty sick. I miss you guys, as soon as I can stay up past 7pm, and get back on track with the business I'll start in again, right now I'm mostly just reading recaps, because I missed the ENTIRE summer of reality TV.
I'll catch up with you soon, I feel like an alien though!!!
:-D
Cheez - The Original (and WAAAAYYYYY funnier and smarter)LOL! I'm thinking the troll might be back....

In the last picture, the blonde chick looks like a "The Bachelor" cast off and the dude looks like that Cedric-guy who was friends with Jason in LB2.

Ya, ya ... I know this is an old episode but I'm backtracking since I haven't seen the show from the start and this is how I catch up.
Anyway, Elodie's conduct only shows to me that she's no better than Heidi, and that she let someone else's behaviour provoke her to do something just as dishonest and vindictive.
*sigh* .. I'm not by any means rooting for Heidi: what she did was just plain mean, but Elodie could have chosen the high road .. by sabotaging in return, she lowered herself to Heidi's level.
Being gracious is THE BEST REVENGE ~ there's no way to outdo the other without being nice back.
