The ref separates the fighters and checks Brian out. Either it was a doozy of a knee shot or Brian's working it, but he says he's pretty lightheaded so the fight is ruled no contest with an unintentional foul. But, because Brian was winning up to then, he gets to stay in the house and Brandon is sent packing. Of course, there's that pesky issue of possible brain damage but the UFC is all over that.

"Just sign right here and we'll get you over to the hospital for a cat scan"
Fight 8
Junie Allen Browning (the Marilyn impersonator) versus Jose Aguilar
Since I've already seen this segment, I'm going to cheat and say that Junie/Marilyn is making a promising to start to becoming one of my all time favorite reality show contestants. Even if he is a complete Silence of the Lambs type psycho, there's something really loveable about him. Maybe it's just his slow Kentucky accent and the jaunty angle of his cap, but he's got that the definite sense of je ne sais quoi. Marilyn tells us that what sets him apart from the other fighters, other than his died blond hair and affinity for high fashion, is that he can actually fight.
On the other hand, Jose Aguilar is, as he says, a common "straight-up criminal", with fantasies of existing back in the days of pillaging.

"Hitler and me, BFF"
Marilyn is not impressed by Jose's big talk of criminal tendencies.

"Do I think Jose Aguilar can actually beat me? I think he has a better chance of getting me pregnant."
The fight starts and first they're down grappling and punching. Then they're up and Marilyn throws a flying knee, which I'm not sure connected but looked cool. Then they're back down in a complicated pose. Meanwhile, it seems that Frankie, the coach, has become enamored of Marilyn and is yelling out all sorts of encouragement, which is kind of heartwarming, but I feel a little bad for Jose. I mean all that love for his opponent has gotta hurt just a little. Marilyn pulls himself to his feet and after staring down at Jose for a moment, with an expression of perplexed disgust, drops an axe kick into the middle of his chest. That's gotta hurt. Frankie is yelling instructions and compliments, and I have no doubt that in another setting he'd be stuffing all kinds of money into Marilyn's g-string. Marilyn ends up on top of Jose and starts slamming him with his elbow, while Jose desperately asks the ref how much time is left in the round. Then the bell rings and the fighters retire to their corners. But, before they can go back in, Jose shows a remarkable indication of intelligence and sanity. Who'd have thunk it? He simply refuses to continue the fight telling us, "I think I did a wise thing pulling myself before I really messed myself up."

"I'm still pretty that's all that matters."
It's almost enough to give me hope that Jose might someday make something of himself.
Big Daddy is thrilled about Marilyn's win telling us "this kid took it to him and beat him up--I'm impressed." I think it's safe to say that Ghandi and Big Daddy don't have much in common.
Marilyn is pleased that he's going into the house, telling us modestly that he didn't really expect to get this far when he showed up. He also shares that he's heard that there's free alcohol in the house, and in a happy foreshadowing of things to come adds, "that ain't good." LOL. So far I'm pulling for Marilyn. If he doesn't win on this show, maybe he can compete as a crossover contestant on next season's Project Runway.
Next week we finish off our intro bouts and we'll have the final sixteen contestants. WooHoo

Great recap! (But, be prepared for some harsh comments - "fan" is short for fanatic, after all)
I'm a long time UFC fan and long thought it was perfect fodder for 'gasm.
I think Dana is smart - many of the contestants - not so much. They are genuine atheletes, though.
They are put under tremendous pressure, sequestered in a rented house, deprived of TV-books-phones... and supplied with seemingly endless alcohol. What could go wrong?
Looking forward to the season - and to your unique takes on it!

Hey Fire@will,
Thanks for the warning. I've had the same concerns and thought long and hard before deciding to try my hand at recapping the show. But, I really wanted to recap something that inspired some honest emotion in me.
I actually used to be a huge boxing and kickboxing fan and I've been watching the UFC for a while. I have a lot of respect for serious, trained fighters. However, for me, the UFC feels like it's in a gray area, with more big strong psycho's than honest hard trained athletes. That being said, I still watch every season, mainly out of curiosity. And I agree, Dana has to be smart. He's built this thing into a huge business, and he does it by successfully managing deranged individuals...
I'm definitely hoping for your insight on some of the more serious fights and I'm totally psyched that you're a fan of the show,
Hugs,
Yenta

Yenta,
I have to agree with fire@will that the fighters in the UFC are true atheletes. Of course like in any atheletic endeavor, there are going to be knuckleheads. For every Rich Franklin, there are five Chris Lebens. The ones who get ahead in the sport are usually intelligent, responsible people. Unfortunely those people do not go on The Ultimate Fighter.
I enjoyed your recap and found it highly amusing. I have been a fan of boxing and MMA for many years - if you have a question about the sport, please put it in a comment on one of the recaps.
Keep up the good work!

yenta, stay strong honey, you did a fine job, I especially loved the Geico jab, that was worth some inadvertent peeing.
I have big problems with UFC and their ilk... mostly because they can get away with straddling each other the way they do (but that's not at all gay-looking) and yet I could be walking down the street minding my own bidness and still have some asshole (in a UFC be-stickered truck) zoom by and yell out "faggot!" while either throwing a half-empty beer bottle at me or attempting to run me over. (This is, BTW, a true story.) Shit like that gets annoying.
I love you, though, so there.
love, J-Mo :)

Hey Buddy, I will definitely be posting some technical questions to you regarding rules and techniques. Thank you so much for posting :)
J-Mo, I am so sorry you had to deal with that akhzer (out of respect for Flipit I couldn't write the word in English--but it's a bad one). I'll keep an eye out to do something avenging for you.
Love you too...
Hugs Yenta
