Pleasuring Inanimate Objects Is So 2005

vm3-15-06It's been way too long since we have had the pleasure of a new episode of Veronica Mars. Unfortunately for those of us who prefer quality writing as opposed to repetitive renditions of the hits of Stevie Wonder, we had to sit tight until American Idol wound itself down to only a couple of hours a week. One of the difficulties for Veronica Mars is that it is nearly impossible to match the interest and intrigue of the Lily Kane murder now that we are in our second season. The Bus crash, the Fitzpatricks, the fall of Weevil; I guess it is OK. But really, it doesn't matter to me because I started watching this show before I knew how great the first season was. However, now that we have taken care of Duncan and Meg, brought Wallace back home, and have Mac and Beaver hooking up, I really do believe that things will be can't miss from here on out.

In our last episode, we learned that Logan has his eyes on Hannah. I had thought that he was simply falling for another blonde as a substitute for Veronica, but we learned that Hannah is Hannah Griffith, and her father is the one who said he witnessed Logan on that bridge with Felix. He also happens to be in bed with the Fitzpatrick's. Logan is still interested in Hannah, as evidenced by their intense smooch session at the beginning of the episode, but we can't tell how much of that is for Hannah (who is cute), or to get at her dad. We do know that Logan wonders what her dad thinks of their relationship, and when Logan learns that Hannah's dad hasn't said much about it, he looks a little upset.

They've only just begun...

However, all of that will be coming later. This is Veronica Mars, and like most people in high school, she is dealing with constant drama. The latest thing causing a stir at Neptune is the diary of a girl named Marlena. Marlena is on the pep squad, and she harbored what was until very recently a secret crush on Madison Sinclair. I guess people weren't calling Marlena "Lizzy" because her middle name is Beth.

So exactly what happened? Was the outing of Marlena part of the normal high school ritual of finding enjoyment in the misery of others? Well, this is Veronica Mars, so there is more to it than that. There has been a string of pizza delivery boy muggings, and one of the people who were mugged, Ryan, happened to run a chat room for gay and lesbian students at Neptune. He carried a list with him in his wallet, and since he hasn't caught on to the idea of a thumb drive with biometric encryption, a few names got out. Since then, all of the gay students have received blackmail letters, threatening to expose them if they didn't pay ten thousand dollars. Marlena refused to pay, and now she was exposed.

One of the things I love about Veronica is that she seems to enjoy the benefits of a free-market economy, and so once Ryan says that the gay students are willing to pay $100 each if Veronica will find the blackmailer, she takes on the case. Since the pizza boy muggings and the blackmail seemed to be related, Veronica starts by trying to find a pattern among the robberies. All of the incidents happened on the poor side of town, so the first thing is to get a list of names and addresses to pull everything together.

While Veronica is doing that, her dad is still hard at work for Terrence Long. Terrence is getting desperate because the paparazzi are waiting for him to call up Al Cowlings and make a run for it in his Bronco. Keith decides the best thing to do would be to work on the alibi for what Terrence was doing at the time of the murder. The only problem is that Terrence doesn't remember anything from the time he left the ballpark to sometime around 11 PM. Missing six hours of your life may seem bad when you are under suspicion for murder, but sometimes it is hard to remember what you were doing on a specific day five months earlier. Go ahead and try. What were you doing at 7:03 PM on September 14th? Not so easy, and while it's not an alibi, it's not good enough for conviction either.

three things: first - great review. second is, you didn't mention that it is possible that Logan planted the coke. (you missed the part where Logan tells Hannah that her dad is keeping things from her, including his coke addiction. He tells her to check the house for a stash. She found it in the bathroom--and we saw Logan leave the bathroom in their house on their date). and third - Jackie says that the hangar they are in is woody's, and that her dad just gets to use it. So theres a possibility it was Woody's TNT.

Stefunny77,

Thanks for the information about the part I missed, as I knew something must be wrong. It makes sense that Logan might have planted the evidence, which gives me second thoughts about how honorable his intentions are.

Regarding the hangar, I guess I missed that, but it also makes sense, since they have been hinting that Woody knows a lot more than he lets on for a while now.

If you do find a torrent, could you post a link or whatever here? I liked the confrontation between Logan and her dad that moved everything along nicely.

I'm not sure what I did to earn a Veronica Mars recap, the return of Prison Break, and a new 24 all in one day, but I'll keep doing it once I figure it out.

I thought this was a pretty good episode, although it's hard to get back in the groove after a month without my Veronica. I don't know if Terrence is guilty, although it would be kind of goofy to have the killer in the second season be the father of her best friend's significant other, just like last season. Also, the lack of security at the Jay Leno's mini auto museum, does leave many possible suspects for planting the explosives. I definitely think Logan cares about Hannah, although it's not to the level that he cared/cares for Veronica. How could you not like her? She's really cute. As much as I hate Dick (wow, there's really no good way to say that is there?), the rich dud kryptonite was funny.

We need more episodes with Mac, especially if she's with the Beav.

As far as Kristin goes, she was quite bad, although saying she was worse than Paris Hilton might be a stretch, a slight stretch. Still, the idea of Kristin as a lesbian cheerleader is hot! Unfortunately, things just weren't the same without her sidekick Roz nearby.

Greetings and Salutations!

First of all, great recap. I read them all the time, and have decided to become a commentor. lol

Anyhoo, clearly Woodie is the guilty party here, the only mystery is to the why. Jackie made a point of stating that Woodie let Terrance keep the cars there. That, coupled with the fact that prior to the hiatus, it was mentioned by Woodies daughter that her dad told her not to take the bus ride home.

So, either Terrance is being framed, or Woodie and Terrance are in bed(figuratively speaking after this latest episode) together and maybe Woodie was getting rid of Terrances lady problem for him? The only problem with that is what would Woodie be getting out of it?

Great recap, Oh how I have missed Veronica Mars. I believe they had to pay $5,000 dollars to the blackmailer not $10,000 but thats besides the point.

It seems that Woody Goodman is becoming more of a suspect, but it seems too obvious. I don't know about anyone else but I didn't guess Aaron Echols until I saw his face on the tape, so it doesn't seem likely to be Woody. He is probably involved somehow though.

Can't wait to see what happens next!

Here's the theory that I posted in the comments for Episode 12 "The Priest is my drug lord,"
'Although it seems to obvious, Terrence's bad gambling acquaintances could be the Fitzpatrick's who offered to ignore his gambling debts in exchange for arranging for the right people to be on the bus crash. Assuming Woody found out about this plot, he would try to keep it secret to protect his star player from going to jail, thereby losing him money. We know Woody cares about the money since he told Keith about the plot to rearrange Neptune so that it would only include wealthy people. In order to protect Terrence, Woody fed Lamb the info to knock Keith out of the race, since Lamb is probably too stupid to figure out everything surrounding the bus conspiracy, and he can be bought off, unlike Keith.

The problem with my theory is that Woody hasn't yet shown any signs of evilness, the way Aaron Echolls did, but the writers may be delaying the dropping of that bombshell. From the episode where Veronica went to the slumber party (go Ninja Turtles sleeping bag!) at Gia's house, we could see that Gia's mom is a little crazy. Not only did she yell at her son, but also at Woody, possibly about the spilling water on the carpet thing. I think that Gia's mom will become more important.'
