Prodigal Thug

vm4-18-06Although I have enjoyed the last couple of weeks, I was starting to get worried about Veronica Mars. It has been as funny and clever as ever, but some things were troubling, and they go far beyond my dread at having to hear all the gushing should Logan and Veronica get together. No, I was starting to wonder if perhaps the writers didn't have a plan. You know, perhaps, they were too busy putting a bunch of twists and "gotchas" into the episodes that the wonderful mystery of all the conspiracies would come tumbling down because there wasn't enough to keep them all going at once. Oh how very wrong I was. It looks like the writers had a great plan, and the only thing I am worried about now is whether I'll feel worse having to wait three more episodes for it all to wrap up, or the fact that after those three episodes, I will have to wait another four or five months for them to get started again. But enough about that because I have already taken too much away from this week's episode, which was, as I used to say when I was a kid (and to be honest still do), so f-ing dope.

At the beginning of the episode, Veronica is giving a deposition in the relating to the Aaron Echolls murder case. Being a big fan of Basic Instinct, I liked the little shout out they gave to that very famous interrogation scene. Veronica was being asked to describe what she saw on tape between Lilly Kane and Aaron Echolls. For those of us who have watched Season 1 (and if you haven't, go out and get the DVD - you can thank me later), it was not hard to see that Aaron Echolls having sex with her or had discovered an accurate way to tell body temperature with his penis. Although Aaron's lawyer attempted to question Veronica's ability to judge a sex act without actually seeing copulation, she assured him that she had not only passed Sex Ed, but watched enough Animal Planet to know what sex looked like.

The only thing really difficult about the deposition was when the lawyer asked if she was still keeping in touch with Duncan Kane. Veronica didn't have to answer, of course, but it did seem to ruffle her up a little bit.

Returning home, Veronica learned that her father discovered something that would really blow her mind. For the last month, we have been fed a lot of clues that Woody Goodman was involved in the crash. Last week, we learned of a few more scenarios that were possible, some including Woody, but others that fingered the Fitzpatricks and even Weevil. This week, we learn that Richard Casablancas was using the life insurance policies of his sons as a tax shelter, but more interesting than that was the payout. If both children died at the same time, Kendall Casablancas would be the beneficiary. Now the only thing left to prove is that Kendall Casablancas was smart enough to pull this off and not get caught.

The next day at school, Clemmons is doing one of those "random locker searches" in order to catch all sorts of various paraphernalia considered dangerous or disruptive at school. Unfortunately, Mac was a victim of one of the searches. She had purchased a cell phone interceptor so she could listen on Cassidy Casablancas' phone conversations, putting her a few dangerous steps closer to official crazy ex-girlfriend psycho bitch territory.

First! LOL.

That logo on the car is definitely a leprechaun. Maybe not the "Fighting Irish", but the "criminal Fitzpatricks". How many brothers are there anyway?

I think (now) that Kendall is certainly involved with the bus crash, and that Weevil is NOT going back to the PCH'ers. He knows what happens when things get outta hand, and he wants to be his own man. Wallace was such a dick with that comment he made to Jackie. I thought he had more game than that, but at least he tried to apologize and make it better.

btw J-Unit, do you know that you said "Tyra" instead of Veronica in reference on this post? Tyra on the brain much? Silly boy! :)

Great recap J-Unit. I also thought this was another solid episode. I'm really not sure what to think at the moment. Because what I think will definitely be totally different than what will actually happen. I wonder if they will bring up that Kendall/Priscilla was the one driving the car when the real Kendall Schiflitt died. That was so incredibly strange.

I don't know what to think. Kendall is definately sketchy, but I'm not positive how much she had to do with the crash.
I thought Woody was suspicious the very first episode, and after that, they didn't put much focus on him, until recently. Now they seem to be throwing out a whole bunch of hints that it was him. And they keep throwing out a bunch of different suspects...
One big hint was when they said that Gia was on the phone with her dad the day of the crash while in the limo. That means that Woody would have known where the bus was and could have placed the call. Red herring?
Woody seems a little obvious now, and I'm not sure if they would make the real killer so obvious. This show is so good, but very frustrating.

I'm with Kit: with so many clues pointing to Mayor Goodman's potential guilt, I suspect him less and less. Remember what a bombshell the Aaron Echolls thing was in season one? He got progressively creepier in the later episodes, but still his affair with Lilly came out of left field. Although a Woody-Kendall conspiracy might be it...

And yes, J-Unit, you should be very, VERY afraid of the fan freakout should Logan and Veronica get together. I'm personally so excited about it happening I think I should bring it up with my shrink. Thought it's too much to hope that they might be going to prom together, a fangirl can still dream.

This episode is a reminder of why I love this show so much. Some episodes drag a little but then at the end of the season all the pieces of the puzzle start falling together and you can't wait until Tuesday night. I remember this time last year being just as excited about what was happening and wanting more. I can not wait to see how things turn out.

This was another good episode, and I can't believe I didn't realize the connection between Duncan's hair and Kendall's trip to the shower. What the hell kind of Presidential Suite cleaning service do they have at the Neptune Grand if no one cleans the shower drain in a few weeks after Duncan's gone?

Just cause I'm stubborn, I'm going to stick with my theory that it's Woody's wife who blew up the bus. Plus, I guess I must subconsciously want everyone to point out that I'm wrong when it ends up being someone else. What if Gia's mom found out that Woody's a creepy pedophile and he's having an affair, so she tries to get back at Woody by blowing up the bus, killing Gia. Is that a completely crazy idea, probably.

When I learned that Kendall was in trouble for trying to pull the long con, I immediately thought, "Oh noes, she'll steal all of the Beav's money." Then I realized that Cassidy will be so sad about losing all his money that he'll run into Mac's arms. Yay!

Kit Author Profile Page:

Weston, you could take your theory one step further and suggest Gia did it. I know a couple of people who think that. If they had ever shown Woody's wife I may buy it, but since they haven't I doubt it.
I don't know if it's worse for them to pick a very obvious killer or someone completely out of left field.

Greganda, trust me, you're not alone. Case in point: in my dance class, we're doing a lyrical/romantic combination, and to "get into it" as my teacher requests, I'm imagining Logan and Veronica.

It all started with an "OH MY GOD, THEY'RE KISSING!" last season, and has come to this. Sad but true.

Ok, this is getting out of hand. I went to the UPN website and nearly had a HEART ATTACK when I saw the shot of Duncan and V dressed up in formal wear. My first thought was that it was a senior prom shot to tease the upcoming episode, and I was so disappointed that it meant the end of my fantasy of Logan and Veronica at the prom. Then I realized that it's an old picture from Duncan and V at the homecoming dance, earlier in the season.

Since here in NYC we won't see the next ep until Sunday (damn you, NJ Nets and your stupid playoffs!!), is anyone free at 9pm tomorrow for an intervention? I have work to do, for crying out loud! My obsession with the show and this particular storyline is out of control! :-)

the recap will probably be up before Sunday Greganda (if you choose to read it before watching). That sucks for you 'cuz it was REALLY good last night!
