Recap: Veronica Mars: FOYLE-d Again, Or Just UnLUCKY in LoVe?

vm2-28-07

This episode of Veronica Mars is the BIG one where we found out who killed Dean O'Dell. Every fan of the show has been specualting about the killer's identity, and the writers of VM have been twisting the plotline in the past four episodes to make us think that it has something to do with the affair between Mindy O'Dell and Professor Landry. With Keith as the acting sheriff, Veronica has the kind of access to information that any young P.I. would kill for. Thank God that she's more interested in looking for a killer than being one because it seems as everyone else is suspect in one form or another. If my witty title hasn't given away the killer's identity, than you need to brush up on your skills. Lets get to it - shall we?

We start in V's Criminology class where she is in a quandry as where to sit due to the fact that her dad thinks her fave professor is a killer. Landry sees her discomfort and tells her not to worry about it, because no matter what is going on, she's one of the best students he's ever had and it's a joy for him to mentor her. TA Tim could not be pleased with this info.

Back at the Sheriff Mars' office (OH YEAH!), Keith is still grilling Mindy about the night of the murder. She keeps calling him "Keith" and he keeps correcting her that it's " Sheriff Mars" now. Way to trip on that power Keith! She's still denying having any kind of contact with her husband the night of his murder, and is still trying to pin it on her ex-husband. Keith points out to her that even though Botando's prints were on Cyrus's computer keyboard, the phrase "Goodbye Cruel World" only has eleven letters and the fingerprints were on ALL the letters of the board so he's not convinced that he is the murderer. He thens lays out all the evidence he has, including the bloody clothes and gloves found in the incinerator, and asks if she's willing to help his case because he thinks that Landry is the killer. She finally admits that her husband DID come to the hotel the night in question and confronted her and Landry about their affair. She says that Cyrus came in waving a gun around, and threatened to ruin Landry professionally. No more bedding co-eds or wives for Prof. Hank-y Panky! She also admits that she took the car and went to find Cyrus after he left to try and calm him down and reconsider what he said. She went to his office after not finding him at home and asked him to be "merciful". She says his window had just been egged and he was drunk and in a bad mood, so she gave him the bottle of Xanax and he took three right there. She says he yelled at her and she left after five minutes. She did call Landry to tell him how it went, but when she got back to the hotel he had left. She tells Keith that she really never thought Landry was the killer, but after she heard about the bloody clothes she'll testify to the events that happened in court. Keith warns her to reflect on the status of the men in her life lately (although, his own wife had an affair and disappeared and HE had an affair too- so who is he to judge?). I guess when they give you a gun you think you can shoot off opinions too.

i knew it was going to be the TA. One of the first episodes after the murder they mentioned the "goodbye cruel world" message and how veronica used it on her essay. which pretty much narrowed it down to the professor and the TA. Then, all the evidence started pointing at the professor, and the murderer is never who all the evidence initially points to.

anyways, i'm quite curious to see how the new format of 1 hour mysteries is going to be. hopefully it wont ruin anything.

zb - watching you go from a simple snarker to a full fledged recapper is wonderful. I envy your talent.
Of course - any recap that includes a shout to ME is wonderful!

And yes - it was me~

I love V Mars and all of the show's twists and whatnot, but I found it kind of lame that Tim was the killer. I mean, it seems pretty unrealistic for him to kill someone completely innocent to try to frame the person he was upset with. Also a bit extreme to hatch this elaborate plot over the Pepperdine thing.

8 weeks till new VM? That royally blows.
