It was Rock and Roll Hall of Fame night on American Idol last night. Did you guys have a chance to watch?? I want to make this quick so I don’t take away from a recap, but let’s discuss…

Here were my favs of the night:

Casey Abrams – man can this kid sing. It’s amazing to me that he almost got eliminated a few weeks ago, and now he’s on top.

Pia Toscano - I’m glad she stepped away from her typical ballad last night. I LOVE her voice! She’s such a pro. My only problem with her–she needs to learn how to move. I want to go up on stage, and pick her feet up for her. I know that she wears high heels, and they’re hard to navigate in, but please sister–shake yo’ ass for us!

Haley Reinhard - as much as she bugs the crap out of me, she did Janis pretty damn well.

Here’s who I think will make the bottom three, Stefano, Paul, and Jacob. I think Paul did MUCH better than last week, but he’s just not as strong as the others. If it were a smile competition, he’d win, but it’s not. As for Jacob–he’s forgettable. And Stefano–eh…I’ve seen him do better.

Did you watch??

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

Yeah – I watched – loved Casey, James and Scott(?). Jacob is always over the top. Pia was good and so was Haley (as much as I hate to admit it) – still don’t like Paul or Stefano that much. Lauren really bugs me – she acts so entitled.

Really? I get that vibe from Pia, myself. And I know no one agrees with me, just my personal opinion. She just seems so smug and “i’m better that everyone else”. Many people have said that about Scotty, and I don’t see THAT. He seems like such a sweet humble country boy to me, not full of himself. But to each his/her own, i guess.

I loved Casey, Haley, and James. Wish Stefano would go home already. Crossed fingers!

I liked Paul’s performance the best but it also kind of highlighted why he’s such a weird fit for Idol. He’s a musician first, singer second. He can do cool arrangements of songs and work a crowd at a bar or a club, but on that stage where the audience still seal claps for glory notes, he’s always going to be the weird uncle. Plus, no one taught him the importance of whoring himself when Ryan’s doing the end of show recap. He let Durbin smarm all over the TV.

If there’s any justice, though, Durbin’s assault on “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” should land him in the bottom with Jacob “If You Don’t Like Me It’s Because You’re A Horrible Person” Lusk and Stefano. He’s been working on an arrangement of that song for five years and this is what he came up with? Singing it like it’s a dirge and then one final screech at the end? Please, America, release him back into the wild.

Someone has got to get Jacob off my tv already. I couldn’t stand his overwrought screaming before, and then he has the balls to say that if he’s in the bottom three its a character flaw in the audience??? What a self-righteous asshole! Who exactly is the fanbase for a portly, devout, African-American, screaming queen?? I just can’t figure out who’s voting for him. Nads you’re probably right on the bottom 3, but Paul did alright last night, so I’m thinking along with Stefano and Jacob maybe a surprise appearance in the bottom three for Lauren or James.

I stopped watching a few weeks ago. I just couldn’t get engaged this this season.

The performaces I ended up rewinding and watching again were Haley, Scotty, and Paul, so they were my best. I still love Lauren and James was great. Casey was better last week. I am hoping Pia, Jacob or Stefano go home, none of them does anything for me.

Nerd Note: Did anyone else have trouble voting? The phone lines were all busy! Should be an interesting elimination.

Jacob has a great voice, but it’s doubtful he’ll ever do anything interesting with it.

Every week I wonder if Scotty can ratchet up my hatred for him another notch. And dang, if they boy don’t succeed. God I hate this smarmy little asshole. Especially the sideways singing mouth and ESPECIALLY that spider-fingered sideways microphone grab. Arg. Of course he’s going to win this thing, but still.

Pia’s okay, but she’s so fucking stiff I don’t believe a word of it. It’s as if she just doesn’t care. That’s the big difference between her and Haley (who has a much better, richer voice).

I liked how they underlit Durbin so his weirdly misshapen head didn’t steal the show. There’s only ONE David Cook.

And Paul can rot in hell for destroying one of the classic songs of all time. If you can’t respect the materials, don’t fucking sing it.

I will say that, for “Rock and Roll” week, they went out of their way to pick a bunch of non-rockers. Half was motown, the other half country western.

Oh, and Randy? Rockabilly you asshole. THAT’s how you play standup bass. Dickhead.

Oh, Itchy. You can’t beat us, so why don’t you join us?? Just look into his eyes and let it take you over. Come to the Dark Side… (LOL! And I agree that Rock Week really didn’t rock that hard. I was expecting a much more upbeat show. The performances I liked the best were the rockin’ ones – Haley, Scotty, and Paul.)

BTW – I agree with those of you who aren’t as into Pia as the judges are. I think she did an awful job of trying to seem heartfelt last night. She seemed like she was straining SO hard to get those notes out. And one circle around the stage does not make up for not having moved in any other performance. Haley and Lauren outsing and outperform her every single time. There is no soul, no feeling, and no way of making me say anything more than, “Eh. Whatever.” I liked Mercedes and Santana’s version on Glee much, much better.

Pia bores me to tears. I didn’t think last night was a big departure for her AT ALL! It was still ballad-ish. Sure, she can hit the notes, but zzzzzz…zzzzzz… Same w/Jacob Lusk and Stephano. I actually fast forwarded through both their performances

Oh vallegirl…THANK YOU for reminding me about Jacob’s “the only reason America won’t vote for me” speech. This season, I am flabbergasted by the arrogance of some of these contestants: namely Jacob, Scotty, Lauren….have I left anyone out. Pikey, I think mentioned Lauren’s sense of entitlement. Scotty was a total shit during Pasadena week….and also while arguing w/Iovine re: “his fan base”. C’mon kid, have some humility. I have to say that although he is goofy-looking, Scotty does have a nice voice. I’ll never vote for him, however, because of his ‘tude.

@itchy – Seriously, though, did NO ONE involved with the show, including Iovine, know what rockabilly is? Because the way Will.I.Am.An.Idiot was going on about how rock & country don’t necessarily mix (really?) I wanted Iovine to say, well, you know, except rockabilly’s been around as long as rock so 60 years says: They go together perfectly.

But, yeah, I remember watching the Havalinas perform and that guy was crawling all over his stand up bass. Way cooler than Casey, but then stand up basses have always been cool in my book.

Not to mention the band used a standup bass during Scotty McCreepy’s cheeseball performance. I couldn’t resist, I had to watch it again. He’s such a corndog.

I’m really looking forward to ten years from now, when he gets out of his second rehab and gets his teeth fixed and records an album of hymns, then tries to marry a 14-year-old.

Itchy, I hate how much I love you. If you were pointing this vitrol at anyone else, I’d be laughing hysterically. But, alas, it can never be…

Weird, too, that Will.i.am was even there for rock ‘n roll hall of fame week. Hip hop week? Sure. But why not get someone who actually performed rock ‘n roll or was in the Hall of Fame?

Itchy I love your comments about Scotty. So glad to have someone share my intense dislike/horror over his damned sideways mouth, slanted shoulders, and what I assume he thinks is his sexy soulful gaze. Watching him makes my blood pressure soar. Do you think he could get a note out if he couldn’t strike his sideways pose? Whenever anything was badly crooked my grandmother would refer to it as wompy-jawed. Scotty is definitely wompy-jawed.

It would also have been nice if they brought in someone who can actually sing to coach the kids.

And Jayem: Next week (tonight?), he’s going to wink directly into the camera. You’ll see. It’s going to happen. Who knows? Maybe he’ll tug on his earlobe too. You’ll see that and your first thought will be: “He loves me!” (oh sing! heart, sing!). But then you’ll come crashing down to cold hard reality. He’s just using you to get at your best friend. He doesn’t love you. He never did. It was all a lie. And the veil will drop from your eyes and you’ll see what a Howdy-doody this kid is. And everytime he goes for that deep note, you’ll do what the rest of us are doing: have another shot to dull the pain …. of our sides splitting from laughter.

Word on the street has it that Jeff Beck was supposed to mentor last night but for undisclosed reasons he couldn’t, so will.i.am filled in.

Also, I have a question: is Flipit not involved in AI recaps at all this time? I do like IceQueen, but Flipit is tradition, dammit! I love bonding with him over the nonsense that is AI. ?!?!

Obviously the lighting guy HATES Durbin. The back-lighting made his ears look like a sock monkey who had been dragged around by a cheeto addict. It was awesome. Douchebin needs to learn to be nice to everybody (the stage hands) or it can comeback to haunt you in ways you’d never guess. The second best moment of the show was at the very end during the hoedown dancing. As Tinkerbell was jabbering about calling in, Lusk was humping him to the music. If you didn’t see it and still have it on DVR it is must see TV! Also Stefani hates Lauren, that’s the only explanation for the boxer shorts/leggings catastrophe.

I don’t want to spoil the results show for anyone, but I gotta say: If a certain someone had dressed the way he/she did for the rest of the competition, he/she would have been a shoo-in for the win. Hell, I might even have voted.

Well, no. I wouldn’t have voted. But I would have… Well. Stop that.
