American Idol may change their voting system next year! Thank God! The wrong people get sent home week after week, all because of the tween vote! The executive producer of Idol, Ken Warwick said, “It’s no secret that most reality shows are female driven, either by mums or by young girls. It does mean we’re going to get a heftier amount of female votets and it’s always bent towards the boys, obviously.  We are very much aware that the voting can be skewed towards the boys. It’s something we’re going to have a long discussion about once we finish this [season].  We’re going to have discussions on how we can keep it fair … Maybe we change the voting system slightly next year. Maybe we limit the number of SMS votes or the number of online votes, but it will remain the way it is for the rest of this [season]. It’s the public that vote and that’s the end of it and that’s what the show’s all about.”

I don’t know how they can curb the female vote if that’s who’s watching the show. It’s going to be tough to regulate, even if they top off the SMS and online votes. I think the best way to make sure the right people stay on that stage is to do what Nigel proposed–letting the judges have final say. Let America vote for the bottom three, and the judges will do the rest. I don’t know what other way they could keep it fair. We don’t have a birthing policy.

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

They should have America vote on the bottom three and then they sing one more song and the JUDGES pick who goes home. It makes the judges, you know, USEFUL. I don’t see the point of them being there past the auditions to be honest with you. Then again, I haven’t watched this show since Kelly Clarkson. I still think they way I suggested is the fairest out of anything they will/could come up with.

i think that would work if they still had Simon. However i can just imagine the current judges dicking around and not wanting to make anyone feel bad and blah blah, useless words, you’re so pretty, etc. and never sending anyone home.

Next year, we should burn the Constitution and pass laws with AI’s new voting system.

Two things: one, there should be a combination of judges’ input and votes. But instead of the judges scoring the performers like on DTWS, each judge should rank each contestant from best to worst after the show. The judges’ rankings will be averaged and then combined with the votes to determine who goes home.

The other thing is simply that phone, text, and online votes should be limited. This will accomplish a couple different things. It will, obviously, prevent fangirls from voting excessively. I believe it would also encourage a wider variety of people to vote, since their votes would have more impact.

I think having voters choose the bottom 3 and then the judges choosing who to send off is a good idea in theory, but the judges wouldn’t necessarily make good decisions. I certainly didn’t like it in SYTYCD! Giving the judges the ultimate control over who goes home would take away from voters’ feeling of efficacy and control, kind of like how the electoral college discourages some people from voting in real elections.

No way should they give the final decision to the judges! That’s what we have on X Factor in the UK, and it just enables Simon Cowell to follow his own money-making agenda and manipulate his “chosen ones” into the final.

Why on earth would you want that?
