The new show starring Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton, Back To You, is going to be using the tactics of the real news to market, market, and market some more. The new comedy is about, you guessed it: TWO NEWS ANCHORS IN PITTSBURGH!!
If you guys live in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles or New York and you’re going to be cruising the streets, you’ll see fake news vans with the call letters WURG (name of the make-believe Channel 9 in Pittsburgh, where the show is set) over Labor Day weekend promoting Back To You. If you feel the need to throw eggs or rocks or bottles at the vans, please make sure they are stopped. There will be enough drama on the roads this drunken weekend.
The vans will be spreading fake news and handing out promotional items, like pens, and other things you end up keeping for years because you just can’t part with them. As I’m writing this, I’m staring at my mechanical pencil that says, The Practice on it…its time to let go. I’m throwing it away as soon as I finish writing this. It hasn’t had lead in years, it doesn’t click, and the eraser ran out when I erased one word 10 years ago! Cheap ass The Practice.
I digress. My point is, don’t stock your house with free shit just cuz it’s free. The fun in having lots of stuff is getting rid of it. Just keep the memory of it in your heart.
Moving forward…I have one question, why is it that there has been a wave of television shows that are set in Pennsylvania?
Will “Back To You” revive the sitcom? I think that Kelsey and Patricia are two people that should be very capable of doing so. They’ve both been on successful sitcoms in the past, they have a proven track record (except for Patricia’s role on Beethoven…ok that was a movie so we won’t count it. We start adding bad movies into the fold and Kelsey’s screwed), and the show is set in Pennsylvania, a very lucky sitcom spot. Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Office, Mr. Belvedere, and let’s not forget that amazing sitcom with the Lawrence brothers, Brotherly Love. How could this show fail?
Either way, I’m just happy that they didn’t give a sitcom to Dane Cook. Mark my words…I would have taken a bath with my hair dryer. Dane Cook and sitcom=Nads and hairdryer.
Back To You is set to air September 19th, at 8PM (PST, ET) on FOX.
P.S. for those of you that loved Simpsonizing yourself, Back To You will have a similar website where you can impose yourself in between Kelsey and Patricia on the Back To You “anchorizer“. Exciting, no? (??)
Don’t say I never gave you anything.
If you like it, spread it!:
