Beyonce sang the National Anthem live at her NFL press conference before admitting to lip-syncing at the inauguration. She also answered the million dollar question, why she sang lip-synced at the inauguration–in a nutshell: she wasn’t ready, and it was about the President. Anyway, she promises to sing live at The Super Bowl. She’s sooo under a microscope right now!

This is why she did it:

Here she is singing the National Anthem at the press conference:

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

People need to leave Queen Bey alone.
    Hating on her gorgeous perfection.
Or near perfection…if she knew a little something about algebuh, then she’d be perfect.

Idk….I feel like if you can’t sing it live, you don’t even need to show up. Also I really don’t care how common it is in the music industry! It was the National fucking Anthem, not some new song you’ve never heard before! If you can’t perform it, stay home. Why do people worship Beyonce? I don’t get it.

    PFFT..

Whitney. I was at the superbowl in 91. In Tampa. In the parking lot. Hey, don’t scoff, you had to have a ticket to be in the parking lot! Because my father has been a Tampa Buc booster for so many years We were able to grab a spot and tailgated with everyone. They had a jumbotron out there and of course everyone had TV’s.

The mood was rowdy but cool. We had just went to war with somebody..forgive me, I can’t remember right now who. Anyway when Whitney started singing that song you could have heard a pin drop among a crowd of folks that were just hootin and hollerin minutes before. The jets flew over and it was truly one of the most memorable moments in my life.

So Beyonceeeee can quit trying..oh yeah, thats right, she didn’t did she?

But Whitney lip synced that too.
    She used a backing track.

The sound engineer said that she did, and I believe him. He has no reason to lie. Of course she sang, but there was a backing track in place. Same as Bey. I was at inauguration; the woman was clearly singing with her own lungs. Was there a backing track? Apparently.
But it wasn’t like she was just moving her lips, she was singing too.

On top of that, you can’t really compare Whitney and Beyonce. They have very different voices, and of course Whitney was a better singer in general. If everyone who didn’t sing as well as Whitney quit singing, then there would be pretty much no singers in life.

    Idk, I just don’t think it’s a big deal.
People just don’t want to let Bey be great.

Thank you, Chaos for that quote. “Why can’t y’all just let her be great?” lol

She proved that she COULD sing it, if you care to listen above. Even Aretha, when interviewed said she’s lip-synched the national anthem before, especially when it was cold..so BFD. It’s not like Bey was autotuned. Because, THAT would’ve been hilarious.

    @chaos,
The sound engineer may have a reason to stretch the truth. Perhaps he wants folks to think he was the one responsible for the best performance of the National Anthem in recent memory due to his perfect engineering skills..call me cynical.

To tell you the truth, I also have a feeling that she got caught lipsynching..it was awful, but she is turning it around to make it the most anticipated National Anthem ever! (she wishes) Again, Call me cynical.

Actually if it had all been about the Prez she would have just admitted lip-syncing in the first place instead of dragging this out for two weeks. Talk about needing press.

I don’t care if she did or if she didn’t. I care that there is actual news happening that people don’t hear about because of her bullshit.

She didn’t lip-synch. She sang over a backing track. Again..how could it be a secret, when the sound/orchestra people had to hit ‘play’ on her tape?! Not like she had a boombox hidden in her coat, people.. It was never a secret. I just think no one anticipated the amount of backlash when it was publicized. Like, really? There isn’t anything else to talk about? I’m sure she thought it would die down but people are still talking about it, so she just sang to put rumors to rest. Now, she wants that done with because she’s performing at the Super Bowl and probably doesn’t want people talking about something that happened weeks ago. I can understand that. I doubt anyone will still give press to this after today.

I really wish people would lay off Beyonce. She’s talented and has a gorgeous voice and who cares if she sang over a backing track? Whitney did it, and nobody talks crap about that.

Also, when Aretha sang it four years ago her voice cracked (because it was COLD out) and everyone was talking smack about it. So you know what, Bey didnt have to rehearse and did the stage thing – which is fine.

People just want to hate her because she’s young, beautiful and talented and her life doesn’t suck. Leave her alone already. You can’t hate on her talent.

I’m not a big Bey fan nor am I a “hater” because between all my fan fiction writing, virtual video game team captaining and planning my comic con costumes I just don’t have any free time. But I honestly don’t see what the big deal is … I’m with her. I think she did the right thing and tried to ignore it as long as she could.

I think people pick and choose what’s a big deal based on who did it and how slow the news is that day..I do not understand the universal hatred for Leanne Rimes but the world wide saint parade for Angelina Jolie. Why people absolutely LOATHE Chris Brown but everyone thinks Charlie Sheen is the hilarious life of the party. Call me crazy but I think angry mobs should be equal opportunity

Of course she didn’t sing live. By now, I don’t even expect it from any entertainer: they’re all too afraid to “mess up” which is stupid because one of the joys of live entertainment is that it’s real. 99% of singers today are so dependant on auto-tune, multiple takes, and backups that they don’t even know how to risk a live performance. It’s especially dumb in this case because it was a day all about the president and if she had flubbed a note, she could have blamed it on being so moved to be singing at the inauguration and everyone would have called it “a touching moment.”

It’s not that big a deal, but for someone who’s supposedly SO very talented, it’s a little disappointing that she chose to lip sync for a hugely important occasion. They might as well have just played a recording over a loudspeaker.

So she could fuck up the song?

The fact that she had to admit she did it just goes to show she did a pretty good at it..I would not have known if it wasn’t for the unnecessary backlash. It was not 1970′s Soul Train level of lip syncing

Not sure how or why she has gotten to the point in her career where everything she does people manage to find something wrong.

Singers just can’t win. If they lip-synch people jump all over them. If they sing live and mess up people jump all over them.

The funny thing is if Beyonce had sung live and messed up, people would be all over her. Just like they are now, because it’s the National Anthem. And when you messed it up people act like you took a crap on the flag.

Agreed, she was damned if she did and damned if she didn’t. And I don’t think she was drumming up publicity by waiting a few days to comment. Let’s face it, she could file her nails and pick her toes and it would make headlines.

However, I don’t care for the current trend of lip synching and autotune. Which is why I rarely go to “live” performances anymore. If I want to watch someone pretend to sing I can watch it on TV and avoid the crowds.

@chaosbutterfly – she pulled it out because it was staged. That’s why it’s a douchy act, imo.

I’m not hating on Beyonce, but everyone else that day sang live – Kelly Clarkson, James Taylor, etc. So was it really the cold? Or her nerves?

  27. 27
    chaosbutterfly

    She sang.
    With her mouth.
She expelled audible words to a tune.
Her vocal cords produced sounds that one could hear.
Her lungs issued forth breath for those words to be borne out of her mouth and into the world.
She sang live, she just had a backing track.
There’s a difference between singing with a backing track and straight up lip synching.

It’s a universal fact that when you’re singing, you don’t want your throat being cold.
It makes a big difference in what your vocal cords and lungs do, and in the quality of your voice.
Kelly also had a scarf so her throat was protected whereas Bey did not. Scarf would have fucked up her glorious ensemble.

There were other reasons for the track, which were explained like 500 times already and make sense.

If everyone would just peacefully come to terms with Queen Bey’s sovereignty, things would be so much easier. Stop being so mad all the time and just kneel before the throne. Eventually, all will kneel.
Resisting only hurts you, because while you’re frustrated at your inability to depose her, she’s busy expanding her territory and slaying bitches indiscriminately.

Yeah, it’s her voice, but it’s her voice produced in a studio where lots of manipulation can happen – NOT the same as doing it live. Live singing is and should be the test of a strong singer. Not saying Beyonce isn’t, but she dropped the ball on this one.

Those who are adamantly and angrily defending her need to realize that not everyone thinks she’s the most amazing thing since sliced bread. I love me some Ke$ha and I know that I’m in the minority unless I’m standing in a group of teenage girls, or next to Jenelle Evans. And guess what? That’s okay.

She sure sucked the energy out of the stadium tonight. Literally.

The halftime show sucked. Nothing special. Nothing that you can’t already see online if you google Beyonce. Too long, too repetitive and, yeah I am going there, too sexual.

I am not a prude, but come on, can we at least once a year keep a tradition that we can share with the whole family like we used to? Before folks started showing their tits (thanks Janet) and throwing their clothes into the audience like a stripper (thanks Beyonce) ?

I am not saying that The Morman Tabernacle Choir should perform. I just think that there should be a happy medium.

It is quite hard to sing in that type of weather. Also they don’t know how cold it’s going to be until the day of the performance. Different artists have different temperatures they like for their voice. Beyonce is on the warmer side. Madonna cooked us in Phillips Arena in November.

It might be one thing if we didn’t know if the young lady could sing but we all know that she can and if you’ve been to her concert before there would be no question.

    Can’t believe I am defending Beyonce…I don’t even like her. But I won’t deny she’s talented.
