***If you didn’t watch Celeb Apprentice last night and don’t want to know who got the boot, stop reading now! Spoiler ahead.

Screen Shot 2011-03-14 At 2.22.15 Am

Celebrity Apprentice proved last night that its hilarious first episode was no fluke. The episode opened with Starr Jones promising us that she was going to fight for her life with her skill set. Lifelike character faces created with her underarm jiggle? No. Arguing! “I NEVER lose an argument!” She got fired from The View. I think that’s at least one argument she lost. It might not be wise to mess with Starr, but NO ONE crosses Barbara, heifer! Babs should be a surprise wild card contestant later in the season. Starr will fear pee all over the floor.

It’s hard not to love Starr after her performance last night, though, and it’s pretty hard to love Starr in general. She got the bitch ball rolling in the first five minutes of the show, nominating the pretty girl who had the nerve to talk back to her last week as Project Manager. Why Starr! You’re trying to build said bimbo’s confidence in a show of forgiveness? Hell no! If you had any doubt what she was up to, NeNe explained it plainly, as NeNe is apt to do.

Screen Shot 2011-03-14 At 2.23.17 Am
Close yo legs to married men!

The plan was to fluster Lisa and make her look as inept as possible. It was super easy. Starr brow beat the poor bimbo to death the whole time with Dionne Angry Old Bat at her side with a bag of rocks. It. Was. Hysterical. At one point in the episode, Lisa exclaimed that she’ll lose if it’s fair but “there’s no way I’m being taken down by a bunch of bitches!” It was pretty clear that that was plain wrong, though. Trump even made fun of Lisa in the boardroom for being played so easily. You could just see it swimming inside Lisa’s beautiful eyes: “If only I knew more…words.” She didn’t stand a chance.

The highlight of a really great episode was NeNe imitating a pissed off Marlee Matlin. The fight between Marlee and Dionne was pretty amazing, and I can’t wait to see Dionne lose her cool more and more with each week. Check out the clip below.

What did you guys think? I thought Lisa would be on the show for the long haul, but she was out before the Playboy bunny! Dang, sista! If you’re not watching this show, set that DVR. You’ll thank me later. Come back for Dear Crabby’s hilarious take in her recap later this week! And if you didn’t read her coverage of the premiere, here’s what you missed.

OMG, this episode was the best! From Dionne being a cranky old bat, to LaToya’s crying (suck it up!), to Marlee telling bitches off..silently. For the men, Gary Busey’s acting (read: playing himself), to Meat Loaf’s crying, to Jose Canseco in a dress, it was brilliant!

Dionne arguing with the translator, forgetting he was speaking for Marlee, was the highlight of the episode! Ha!

If Lisa was smart, she’d made Star an ally, not an enemy the first episode. Or, at least kept her out of the boardroom this time around. I would’ve picked Marlee so we could crush Dionne together.

@sarcasatire: Now that would have been smart, leaving Starr out & bringing Marlee in. I had forgotten about the fight with Dionne by the time the boardroom came around. Loved the episode. Can’t wait for the recap. And Dionne Warwick is trending on Twitter. Haha!

Love this show! I haven’t watched the Apprentice for years (either celebrity or the plain folks one) but am I glad I tuned in.
Marlee has always seemed an affable sort – but damn does she give good bitch face. And Star Jones…..that woman is a brilliant bitch. No wonder she lasted so long on The View before being fired. She understands the nuances of abusing your underlings, underminding your peers all the while sucking up to the boss. My God, she would have been huge in corporate America.
Im really looking forward to NeNe loosing it ala Houswives style. I heard an interview with the Bunny who said that NeNe was frightening to be around – that she is extremely tall and loved wearing 7 inch heels so oftentimes you would have a 7ft NeNe looming over you yelling haha!

I cannot believe what a huge BEYOTCH Dionne is. Way to destroy your image. She is horrible! I felt really bad for Lisa, but I was also embarrassed with all her snapping and head rolls and Oh Girls….at least this season will be entertaining!

I didn’t think it was possible to loathe Star Jones any more than I already did after watching her co-host the red carpet for the Oscars. I was wrong. Too bad they couldn’t do a gastric bypass on her ego.
I was going to say that I was totally surprised about how much of a bitch Dionne Warwick was, but she is Whitney Houston’s aunt… how about you call your psychic friends network and thank them for the head’s up on the outcome of your task.

I love Marlee. I fell in love after she was on The L Word DVDs I have. To see her get pissed enough to talk with her mouth and hands is priceless. It is like watching two hens peck at each other when she talks with her hands. HAHA. I think I saw Lisa using sign language?

Lovin’ this show! Too funny for words! Loved watching Marlee go off – even though she is deaf, I got the message, sistah! Old Dionne Warwick with her grumpy ass self. I remember my parents having an old record of hers called “Promises, Promises” – dang, bitch got mean over the years.

Lisa Rinna didn’t stand a chance against Star Jones – c’mon, that bitch got all of NY to pay for a wedding to a man whose gayness could be seen from space. She ain’t going nowhere yet.

Is Meatloaf on meds, or maybe needs to be? “The Color Purple” had less crying. Eek… ughh, Richard Hatch is still around.

Starr Jones is pond scum. This is the woman that had THIRTY corporate sponsors at her wedding. How? By selling “unofficial” commercials during the view. Yeah, they would give her free shit at her wedding and she would say their name on the view. That’s one of the big reasons she got fired. This is the woman that swore to everyone for YEARS that she didn’t have any sort of lapband/gastric bypass surgery to lose her weight. Oh yeah… but she did as it turns out. She is a liar who doesn’t give a fuck who she has to kill to get ahead. She is manipulative and nasty. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a bitch. But I don’t like scum. That’s why I will never root for her or Dick Hatch.

And Dionne may be a legend, hey I love Do You Know The Way to San Jose as much as the next guy, but she is straight up shady! Everyone remembers that she had psychic friends, but do you also remember how many lawsuits were involved with those psychics because they were FAKE? Or the fact that she has drug convictions under her belt? Her singing may be legendary, but other than that she is just a cranky egotistical old lady. Maybe she needed a bong hit.

Nene still thinks she can ride Star’s coat tails. It is SO obvious! Nene isn’t so stupid as to not realize that she doesn’t have the celebrity and rich friends needed to win this thing. So she has hooked her wagon to Starr to get her further in the game. Can’t wait to watch the explosion as that goes south!

I’m not surprised that LaToya went along racial lines. When she was on UK big brother, she definitely based her alliances on race. She was the only one who kept sticking up for Coolio even though his behavior was so abusive that they had to ask him to leave. He was especially abusive to the women in the house which made her decision to back him even stranger.

I told my hubby last night while we were watching the show Lisa should not take in Dionne and Star. She should have taken Dionne and Marley! I was yelling at the TV “Get on those Bitches about wanting their names on the book” when they went back into the board room – but Lisa didn’t do it. I always thought Lisa had the potential to be a Diva, but she is just a sweet person. Good for her!

@cattyfan: What about LaToya, she didn’t seem to be on any side..especially not on mean Dionne’s. Whatever the reason the divide, I wouldn’t say it was racial. Star and Dionne have strong personalities and just happened to work well together this challenge. Remember last week, when Star tried to kick Dionne off the credit card machine and Dee-Dee shut Star down? If they’d have lost that task, Dionne would have been in that boardroom in a minute, and Star would’ve had her fired.
I think Star is just waiting for the perfect moment and she’ll be taking Ms. Dionne down, too.
I don’t think the other ladies were on a side either..they just so little screen time this episode because Dionne was clacking her dentures so darn much.

It made me sad about Dionne. She did have some wonderful songs but then she first damaged her legacy with her psychic hotline and now she is finishing off the job with this show. Was all the scandal about Star’s wedding the last straw at The View? I can’t remember if there were other significant problems before that; only that now there is no love lost between Star and Barbara Walters.

@Fan The wedding thing wasn’t the only reason, but it was specifically mentioned by both Star and Barbra at the time as a major reason. I forget the other reasons.

@Sarcas – Nene was also in the Starr/Dionne posse. And while LaToya was sort of neutral during the show, she did have the crying breakdown over the fact that Starr and Dionne weren’t getting their names on the book and then sided with them against Lisa in the boardroom.

I was totally effing SHOCKED that Dionne’s comments about the hearing impaired weren’t brought up in the Boardroom. I know the “Apprentice” title is really just for show, but I doubt even the Trumpster would let any kind of questionable comments about disabilities and slide, given that it’s really his name and image on the line.

Also, question for anyone who may know about ASL and interpreters: how do interpreters determine what type of inflection to use when speaking for their client? Is it that the signs used convey a certain type of inflection, is it based on speed, or do they just kind of guess what kind of attitude their client has based on non-verbal cues?

  18. 18
    Fan-Ann
    Posted March 14, 2011 at 11:02 am

Unless the interpreter is reporting on a conversation held out of sight of the hearing impaired person, the inflection is usually known. Those who cannot hear rely very much on their own powers of observation for tone. After all, I can mute my television and tell pretty easily if anger is involved in an exchange. For instance, Nene is not
known for quietly murmuring ” she’s a heifer”. No. Her insults are loud and also a full
body message. Marlee Matlin can also lip read and is very adept at reading gestures, body language, and mood.

  19. 19
    myfavoritesunglasses
    Posted March 14, 2011 at 11:13 am

@Fan, thanks. I think I was asking more about how the interpreter judges what inflection Marlee would like him to use, not the other way around. For instance, when is he supposed to sound angry, when is he supposed to sound sarcastic, when is he supposed to yell, or whisper, etc etc. I was wondering if *her* signs convey how she would like him to speak, or if he must read her body language and make a judgment about how she would verbally respond in a certain situation.

  20. 20
    Posted March 14, 2011 at 11:15 am

I agree with you Fan-Ann. I do not believe I have seen Marlee’s other works except on The L Word but she is very good lip-reader. Most of her time on the show, they had her speak a lot to Jennifer Beals without an interpretor or sometimes even signing.

One of the very few things I remember about high school biology is that when you lose one sense (such as hearing), your other senses are heightened to make up for it. I was wishing that Marlee would bust an ass on Dionne. The way she looked during the clip Flipit put up and on the episode would have sent me screaming the other way.

Sorry, guys, not buying the whole “Let’s team up because we’re the same race’ argument. In most boardroom situations, when there is a loss, team members blame the project manager. It’s not because they were Black and Lisa was White that they decided to do so. Dionne and Star were just covering their asses because their parts in the tasks were the ones that failed.

Nene never took Lisa took task during the challenge or agreed with Dionne either. But when asked by Trump about Lisa’s skills, Nene said she thought that Lisa did a poor job as PM. Just because Nene thought Lisa did a poor job did not mean she was on Dionne and Star’s side, just that she wasn’t on Lisa’s.

Lisa did do a poor job. If she was so unimpressed by Star’s flyer making skills last week, why did she put her in charge of writing and designing the entire book? And yes, she’d made an enemy out of Star since the first challenge so there was history between the two.
But last week, Star wanted Dionne off the register and Dionne refused and Star didn’t argue, but you’d better believe if they’d lost the challenge, Star would’ve dragged Dionne into the boardroom for her slow ass cashier skills.
Nene said as much this week about Dionne; that although you may not agree with Dionne, it looks bad arguing with your elders. So, I don’t get that they are on her side, they just don’t want to come across as asshole, telling off an old lady.

But that doesn’t make it Team AA vs Team Caucasian, and it’s silly to think so. I think everyone was happy when Marlee stood up to Dionne, but the rest of the time, the other ladies, Nene included, were quiet and diplomatic and just let Lisa, Dionne, and Star bicker.

I don’t think anyone was insinuating that they got together and consciously made the decision that they should be Team Sistah and Team Can’t Dance. I think that is just the way it fell into place for whatever reason. Could it have been that Star and Lisa had differences and others had to pick sides? Sure. Dionne has been on Team Starr from the beginning because if she wasn’t, Starr would have shut down that whole cash register debacle last week in an instant. Marlee was with Lisa last week and saw that she didn’t do anything wrong to deserve the treatment she received. Couple that with the bullshit from Dionne and of course she was going to be on Team Lisa. Nene kisses Starr’s ass so of course she is Team Starr. Nicki and the playboy gal weren’t really featured much so not sure where they stood. Why LaToya started crying because of Starr and Dionne not getting their way with the names on the book? Fucking random. But clearly that puts her on Team Starr. So again, while it might not have been specially racially motivated, the teams did split pretty much along racial lines.

Well, because cattyfan described the so-called racial division as ‘sad’, I’m going to assume that the insinuation was that it might have been deliberate. I just think it’s odd that when two or more people of the same race agree, they are teaming up because they are of the same race. (Like when Black people voted for Obama. No one could believe that they considered the policies and agreed with his campaign promises. Nope, they just voted for the Black guy. lol)

Star did want to take Dionne off the cash register but Dionne threw a fit and Star backed down. But had they lost, Dionne’s ass would have been grass! I’m not sure anyone is on Dionne’s side, but as Nene said, people are reluctant to take the old lady to task and Dionne is using that to her advantage. But if Dionne (or anyone) makes a mistake that costs them a victory, there will be no loyalty, racial or otherwise. Watching the Nene and Star debacle in the previews should tells us as much. Just as Niki and Playboy Bunny’s silence in the boardroom was deafening as Lisa looked for someone to come to her defense. There is no loyalty in this game and we’ll see allegiances change like the wind. it’s a game of self-preservation, above all.

@Sarcas – I understand your points. And with regards to the whole Starr, Dionne thing, I might completely agree if it wasn’t Starr. She is a very shrewd woman. I’m sure she has already figured who she can count on being in her back pocket and who she can’t. And everyone she can’t is expendable at this point. Dionne is obviously on her “team” regardless of race. But I think if the situation was different, she would have yanked Dionne off the register in an instant. Starr has no problem intimidating and ordering people around… if it would help her. Clearly making Dionne an enemy this early wasn’t going to do that.

And that whole teaming up thing works both ways. I complained about something Obama had done recently (I was not alone) and was called racist because I am white and obviously must be thinking racially if I dared criticize him. Some people are just ignorant.

@LAC – Now that wasn’t very nice, was it? We are having a discussion and no one is getting up in anyone else’s virtual face over anything. But statements like that are what turn discussions into flame wars.

I didn’t see the show myself, but this reminds me so much of the will reading scene from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” wherein the grown kids and their dad took the dead mother’s will being read by the lawyer as the lawyer’s own words. Then, when the lawyer explained that he was only reading the words of the deceased, they started saying things to the lawyer like, “You tell that bitch we said…blah, blah, blah…” as if the lawyer had direct communication with the deceased. It was so funny and I highly recommend this show to everyone. But it’s pretty stern humor, so not for the faint-hearted.

My mother watched the show and we got into an argument over Starr/Lisa. I’m not partial to Starr, but I hate Lisa’s guts. We each declared the other’s choice the biggest bitch and stopped speaking about it.

The show is about a bunch of “celebrities” who want to the be the last one standing. Like all the Apprentice shows, they form fleeing alliances that are conveniently forgotten when they feel like it. Since NeNe and Star Jones are headed to the mat at some point, the divisions are more about who is the head mean girl this week, than some racial divide. I thought NeNe’s observation about Dionne Warwick’s age playing into the dynamics was surprisingly astute.

Her free wedding endorsements aside, Star knows how to call in a favor or two! I reckon that aside from her TV persona, she is a very good businesswoman. And seems well connected and well respected by her peers.

I was surprised to see Latoya crying – she was on that CBS celebrity cop show (the name escapes me) and she seemed pretty tough. Although she did seem to be very caring then and that might be what was coming out. I think she’s the dark horse Jackson. (And don’t you judge me on the celebrity cop show…you all watch Celebrity Apprentice =) )

My God! My mother, queen viewer of reality t.v., has never mentioned a celebrity cop show. She’s going to be so pissed off when she finds out she missed it.

Tell you what…maybe it’s “wrong”, but I want to smack Dionne real hard! She is one egotistical, impatient beyotch from hell!

I am confidant that Marly is going to take Dionne Warwick down. I get the distinct impression the Marly does not give a shit about Dionnes advanced age especially after Dionne kept insisting that deafness is pathetic. I predict that regardless of what happens when Marly is PM – if her team loses she will bring Dionne into the boardroom.
I also predict that Star will make it to the end. Though I do hope that they will have to do a celebrity Gala fundraiser and have to work with Barbara Walters lol! Or Rosie ODonnell. Or Gay Al Reynolds. Really, the list goes on and on with regards to people who hate Star Jones.

There is no way that they could get Starr out on a fundraising challenge. She knows everyone. She can raise serious money every time. And even if she messes up otherwise, The Donald won’t send home the big money maker on a challenge like that. She would have to go out on a creativity challenge because she just isn’t that creative. She doesn’t have “the eye.” That’s why the font was too small on both of the projects she did. The problem is, of course, that in order to get Starr out, you have to bring her in the courtroom. And she can twist anything to make herself look good and the other person look bad. As a result, I suspect she will go to the end.

In a related note, I know a lot of attorneys who are good honest people. In fact, I once considered the law myself. But people like Starr are the reason there are lawyer jokes. For example:

Q: What’s wrong with lawyer jokes?
A: Lawyers don’t think they’re funny and other people don’t think they’re jokes.

Q: What’s the difference between a shame and a pity?
A: If a busload of lawyers goes over a cliff, and there are no survivors, that’s known as a pity. If there were any empty seats, that’s a shame.

Q: If you have a bad lawyer, why not get a new one?
A: Changing lawyers is like moving to a different deck chair on the Titanic.

I’ll be here all week! :D

    @Snootchy – You brought up something I’ve been wondering…

Starr has a HUGE list of people who don’t like her. But damned if she doesn’t know how to call in a favor, just like for this last fundraiser. Is she respected because that’s just the attitude you need to have to be a successful lawyer in NYC, or is she secretly descended from Don Corleone and those people she called in are just really, really scared of telling her no?

I’d imagine a little bit of both. I’m sure there are those who respect her as a business woman and help her willingly. And there are others who are intimidated either by her or by those she knows and who help “willingly”, if you know what I mean. But she is also shady as hell, so I would not put it past her to park some funds with people for them to bring to her when she calls them.

And I have to say that even if someone I don’t like calls me, if they are calling to help a worthy charity, I will still contribute. Maybe the people who Star knows are the same way.

That’s a good point, Catty, and reminded me about something I was wondering about earlier. Ok so she is playing for the American Heart Association, right? And I guess this would go for Nikki too as she is playing for the American Red Cross. These are big money charities. So if you were going to play on their behalf and knew that some challenges would involve fund raising, could you go to the charity and ask for their big money donor list? Then when it was time, just start calling down that list. You wouldn’t even have to have personal friends with deep pockets, would you?

Wow. I didn’t know Starr was an attorney. I guess that explains some things. I did not like her attitude at all, but I also see her making it to the end. I am team Martee/Marty, and thanks fellow gasmii for recommending this show. Lisa was trying to be nice to everyone and be diva at the same time. You have to pick a side and run with it. No one likes a flip flopper. That was a great idea to bring Martee/Marty and team up on Dionne. I didn’t even think of that, but it would have been brilliant.

Good points. It *is* charity, so it’s not like she was asking a personal favor (like help hide Lisa’s body).

Did anyone else think it was odd that Starr’s doctor wondered what he was doing there when Starr presented him with the $196K check to the Heart Assoc? Starr started off by saying he’s the best doc ever & saved my life, then gave him the check. I’m sure the check went to the Heart Assoc but I’ll always wonder if Starr’s alterior motve was to get her doc to shave or wipe out her surgery bill. She is a money grubber. This show is a whole lot of caaarrraazzyyy!

(J)ustPeachy: Not only was Star a lawyer, she was an Assistant District Attorney!

@soapboxx: I think she brought him to publicly commend him..a bit of publicity. I don’t really see her as a money grubber as she is self made. She may have married a money grubber, of questionable sexual orientation, but she seems to have a bit more substance than just chasing paper.

Sarcas, all she ever talked about was money. Her furs. Her jewels. The rich people she knows. And that was before she even met her gay ex-husband. There was no mistaking what was valuable in Star’s life… money. Well, that and power. How could someone have 30 corporate sponsors of her own wedding when she was rich enough to pay for even the most over the top wedding (which hers was). She illegally sold advertising on the view via her own mouth. And not a money grubber? Not sure how that is possible.

Star is a moneygrubber, pure and simple. What wealthy person asks vendors to donate their services to their wedding for a mention on theView? I wouldn’t be surprised if she threatened negative mention for those businesses that didn’t want to play along. I used to watch The View back in those days (don’t judge) and Star sounded like a commercial you would come across at 2AM – making direct eye contact with the camera and mentioning over and over all the vendors of her wedding. She would make odd segues i.e. ‘That bill going through congress would be the icing on the cake…..speaking of, my wedding cake made by the kind folks over at XYZ Bakery has icing!
She truly was a shilling whore.

I thought LaToya was crying because she wanted them all to get along and stop crying, not because she wanted Star and Dionne’s names on the books. If that were the case, it would have made Star’s “stop crying and suck it up, LaToya” comment odd.
