The season premiere of So You Think You Can Dance is next week, and Nigel Lythgoe has announced some big changes to season 9. Only one episode per week, and two winners…one girl and one boy! Nigel said, “We are down to one two-hour show each week. We are changing it up … We are going to have two winners this year, one male and one female. It’s something that we wonder why we didn’t do it in the first place. We should have done it years ago! … Each one brings something different to the table. We can split up the numbers and have America vote for their favorite guy and girl, so why not do it?” -He’s right! It won’t be a gender competition anymore (not like it was in the first place), and it defeats the purpose of equality and having one champion, but it seems more fair in the grand scheme of things.

As for the show only being on one night a week, Nigel said they’re going to find a way to incorporate results into a standard performance show, while still keeping the group dance number. Pretty crazy! I’m looking forward to the season premiere. I’m not a huge dance person, but I like the show a lot. I’m surprised it’s only going down to one night a week…I thought it did well enough…hopefully this won’t be the decline of the SYTYCD.

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

I love that it will be only one night a week. I only watch the results show for the musical preformances, dance performances, and of course the results. But that only took like 10-15 minutes of an hour long show and wasn’t worth sitting through tons of filler and commercials.

I think they should should just do the results like America Best Dance Crew does, they manage to include results, a group number, and the performances in an hour long show. So if SYTYCD follows their format it might work.

I am so freaking happy that they’re getting rid of the crappy results show!!! SO MUCH FILLER.

I had heard that they’ll still be doing a group number, and I agree with sagittariuskim; if they model it the way ABDC does it, they should have plenty of time to fit everything in. And hey, the first season everything was all on one night!

I’m psyched for next week! Hopefully I’ll see a bunch of you there. :)

But..but..but…what about all those great intro packages during the performance episodes? And the “picking a partner’s name out of a hat” segment? I sure hope they don’t lose those scintillating segments to make room for the results.

Of course, they could also dump Hal Sparks and Nigel from the panel to free up some time.

Thank Bob!!! The results show was a pain in my left butt cheek. I don’t give rats ass about the singer nor the professional dancer of the week.

So good to see the format be cut down to once a week. If Dancing With the Stars would join them in this decision, my life would be complete.

So excited for this show to be back! I’m assuming PottyMouth will be back with her awesome recaps (yay!), but why isn’t anyone covering ABDC this season? I just got all caught up & thought, “I have to go read the recaps!”, but none to be found :(
