Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse is a little bit confusing. It brings the age old question interesting TV often does to mind: “Is this awesome or does this suck?” It depends on what week you catch it. The show had a pretty strong start creatively, but when you’re basically writing about very skilled whores, how far can you go? Sure, these whores can do more than just bang you. They can also beat the crap out of anyone who messes with them and infiltrate global companies and David Koresh like cults. In stilettos.
So why is the show being taken off the air until after sweeps? Well, cuz no one’s watching it. The fans are up in arms, blaming the wussies at FOX who promised to give it a full 13 episode second season airing for not being true to their word. FOX didn’t lie, per se; they will in fact be showing all thirteen episodes. Just not during sweeps. And possibly all squished together on a few nights so they can just get it over with. I am a fair weather fan of this one. I record every week because when it’s been good it’s shown some real promise. But more often than not, it’s not even good enough to get me to sit through the full hour. If the fans are mad, they should be mad at the writing team, not FOX.
What say you? Does this show deserve a third chance or should it just be put out of its misery? I’m hoping it stays. And gets a lot better. Because whether I like it or not, I’m addicted to it. And the recaps that follow.
If you like it, spread it!:

Put it (and us) out of its misery. The show was and is a snorefest. Mostly because the lead actress is incapable of acting and lacks charisma. There were several other actors on the show who would have been capable of carrying it, but they picked ol’ Human Xanax, the Norah Jones of acting.
I am of the “Joss Whedon is not a genius” camp. I do wish they had saved Firefly, but this show doesn’t deserve to be saved.
Hi guys,
I think everybody has gone over the key problems with this show (and as much as I love this show it does have some LiLo sized issues). For starters, Eliza Dushku is never going to be on the short list for the lead in a remake of Sophie’s Choice, you know unless the remake called for Sophie to dress like Tucker Max’s dream girl and fight a kick ass kung fu battle at the selection point in Auschwitz, so running 80% of the average episode through her character most weeks isn’t what I would do in a show that deals with existential dread. Also the shows are still wildly uneven, especially for a second season when you should know what the hell you are doing. Don’t get me wrong, when this show is on it’s some of the best TV you are going to see anywhere, but it’s been a coin flip every week as to whether you watch a great hour of quality TV or the kind of boring crap you would expect to be on after “Til Death.
All of those problems aside, I’m of the opinion that Fox is acting like a bunch of shifty eyed shit weasels on this show. I can understand them not showing this show during sweeps because the actual audience that watches this show during its time slot is pretty much me and those two squirrels I watch the Emmys with, by the way Chip and Dale are great guys, you know except when they’ve been drinking. My beef with Fox is that they are going to burn off half of the show’s episodes in three weeks in December when nobody watches TV and the final three episodes will be shown “at a later date.” I don’t think this shows good faith on Fox’s part for wanting this show to succeed. I think what it is meant to do is make sure when they do cancel this show they don’t have to take all the guff they took when they canceled Firefly, because they can say they brought it back for a second season.
Anyway, I’m going to get back to work on my recap for last week’s show, which was flat out awesome, and am just going to plan on enjoying this show for as long as I can.
Just copy everything Waffleboy boy said and paste it here. Well, except for the part that he’s the only one watching this show. Unless I’m a squirrel and I didn’t realize it.
I watch it too – and I am neither a squirrel, nor a chipmunk (like the REAL Chip and Dale). I think the show is best when they push Eliza Dushku to the back like they did this past week. What a great episode!
But the news that they are bringing Summer Glau on is pretty scary. I like her less than I like Dushku – and that’s saying a lot.
I want more Sierra, Topher and Victor!
I’m a woodchuck & I watch.
