Dr. Drew has a new show coming out on VH1 called Rehab with Dr. Drew. The new show will not focus on celebrities, rather real people going through treatment at The Pasadena Recovery Center. I’m actually more inclined to watch a show about real people, aren’t you? Watching washed up celebrities going through treatment was not appealing to me anymore–it got too dark for me. Plus, the show started becoming ridiculous–almost like the celebs were trying to get on because they wanted to revive their career and were addicted to fame. I’m glad Drew and VH1 are taking the real route…it’ll be far more interesting.

Here’s the VH1 press release:

VH1 AND DR. DREW CHECK BACK INTO REHAB

This Season Of Rehab Will Expand To Assist Young Adults In

Need of Drug And Alcohol Treatment

Los Angeles, CA – JANUARY 14, 2012 – VH1 is once again partnering with Dr. Drew Pinsky to lead a group of addicts through the difficult process of getting clean and sober. The new season of “Rehab with Dr. Drew” (Tentative title) will not feature celebrities with substance abuse issues, but instead follow the real-life experiences of young adults who are struggling with addiction as they undergo the same detoxification and treatment plan at The Pasadena Recovery Center as utilized in “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.” “Rehab with Dr. Drew” is set to premiere in the summer of 2012 on VH1 with eight one-hour episodes.

Over the years, many viewers have reached out to VH1 seeking assistance from Dr. Drew for their addiction issues. In this installment of the ‘Rehab’ franchise Dr Drew and VH1 have decided to expand the benefits of the program to adults who are in dire need of treatment. The goal of the series is to treat a group of young adults in their twenties and thirties who are struggling to get clean and sober and give them guidance to get their lives back on track.

“This show has always resonated with our viewers but we feel this expanded format will hold up a mirror to our core audience and hopefully give them some new insight to this disease that touches almost everyone – whether they are struggling with addiction themselves or know someone who is,” said Jeff Olde, EVP Original Programming and Production.

“I am so excited to once again have the opportunity to educate viewers about the deadly disease of addiction. More than 85 million Americans are affectedby addiction, whether they’ve faced the disease themselves or have supportedfamily members or friends through a substance abuse issue. The stigma and shame associated with drug andalcohol addiction prevents many fromgetting the helpthat they need,” said Dr. Drew. “It is my sincere hope that this show will encourage people who are struggling to seek the help. Treatment works and there is hope and recovery is possible.”

Dr. Drew is the host of the nationally syndicated late night radio show Loveline, the daytime talk show “Dr. Drew’s Lifechangers” on the CW Network and the evening show “Dr. Drew” on HLN. He is a respected practicing MD, board certified in internal and addiction medicine, on staff atHuntingtonHospitaland assistant clinical professor of KECK USC School of Medicine. He is the author of theNew York Times best sellerThe Mirror Effect: How Celebrity Narcissism is Seducing America(Harper Collins) andCracked: Putting Broken Lives Together Again(Harper-Collins.) Dr. Drew co-authored the first academic study on celebrities and narcissism that was published in theJournal of Research in Personality(Elsevier)in September 2006, and is the first systematic, empirical scholarly study of celebrity personality.Dr. Drew hosted VH1’s “Sober House” and “Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew” and can be seen on MTV’s “Teen Mom” and “16 & Pregnant.”

Full episodes and extra scenes from “Rehab with Dr. Drew” will be available at Rehab.VH1.com and on VH1 Mobile each week following the show’s on-air premiere in the summer of 2012.

“Rehab With Dr. Drew” is executive produced by John Irwin and Damian Sullivan for Irwin Entertainment. Dr. Drew Pinsky and Howard Lapides also serve as executive producers. Jill Holmes, Tom Huffman and Jeff Olde are executive producers for VH1.

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

I just feel like he is such an ineffective doctor. That stupid look on his face says it all.
He needs to just stop and leave this stuff to the people who know what they are doing.

I respected him more before he went “Hollywood”. He was pretty good when he used to be on Love Line. I never grew to dislike him, but he definitely stopped being a real MD and started developing himself as a brand. If he goes back to treating regular ‘ol junkies, without all the attendant celebrity redonkulousness, he might become credible again.

So now instead of giving washed up famewhores a new chance of fame, he is going to be giving broken young people a chance at fame? Woohoo? We see how well that worked for the folks on Teen Mom or 16 and Pregnant. :/

Yeah, but those girls are stoopid. These people are just junkies. Junkies can be fixed.

    I love saying junkie.

He may be a famewhore but he’s a Silver Fox in my book. It looks like Celebrity Intervention with Dr. Drew being the celebrity. Let’s just hope Dr. Sophey isn’t involved with this show. It’s too haaaaard to watch him.

Rehab with Dr Drew – so is it like we all rehab together?

I have to agree with Gypsy, though – throw him down and rip the buttons off that tightly buttoned up shirt, and help him push the thought of sad addicts and network ratings right out of his head…but I digress…

From the way he’s going, I fully expect Dr. Sophey to be hoisted by his own petard. And probably sooner rather than later.

They should take the junkies from this show and face them off with junkies from Intervention, Real World / Road Rules Challenge style.

even the addicts mock that stupid, phony, sad, pouty look of his. I cannot STAND him! And I really liked him years ago when he was on with Adam Corrolla, before he turned all douchey.

I don’t think I’d count on it being any less dark.

@Sardini: Now that, I would watch. I mean, I wouldn’t watch it on Pay-Per-View or anything, but I’d certainly watch a bunch of tweakers and coke whores slugging it out on basic cable.
