Dr. Phil Isn’t Going Anywhere

They’ve announced that Dr. Phil has been renewed through the 2016-2017 season. Which basically means he’s never going away. The guy is 77% of the country, and will probably take over the daytime world completely by the time 2016 comes around.

Honestly, I really don’t get it. How can THAT many people watch his show? Maybe I’m the odd man out, but Dr. Phil gives me the creeps. He reminds of a creepy gym teacher that wears the white knee high socks and short shorts.

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

You are not the only one Nads. He never graces my screen.

Lana from Sin City and her sister were on his show a few years ago. I see how well that worked.

Oh my God that is the most perfect description of this guy I’ve ever read. I can just hear him yelping “so Courtney, when are YOU going to take some personal RESPONSIBILITY and climb that rope?”

I watch Dr. Phil almost daily (literally watching as I type this message). I learn so many life lessons from him. Most importantly “would you rather be happy or would you rather be right”.

    Lolol…really I watch for the train wreck…

@classy, I’m with ya. I watch Dr. Phil for the same reasons I listen to Dr. Joy Browne (radio show), Dr. Drew, and other various “Dr. Shows” . I learn from trainwrecks.

I like listening to other people’s problems, and I learn from them (i.e. sleeping with brother in law is NOT OK–check! Being a pill-popping addicted Soccer Mom is BAD! check!)

My Dr. Phil impression: What YEW need to DEW is…

I can’t STAND Dr. Phil. He is smug, judgmental, self-satisfied, and lacking in empathy. So glad I’m not the only one!

Dr. Phil really does give out that heebie-jeebie, Chester the Molester, white gym sock tormentor jibe. He’s never going away and neither are the Kartrashians. I think the world did end one of those times last year and our hell is Dr. Phil/Kimye. With a running commentary by Oprah.

Robin has big teeth and a crazy duck walk. Every time he plucks her out of the audience to walk backstage she’s rambling. I’m like, if he cared about your opinion of the show he would’ve asked you before the credits!

Sweet Jeebus—- he is like a Kardashian. Or a cockroach.
I guess if he is still in business (well on air) his smug asshole of a son (who is pro-creating with his porny wife) will still be putting out books and producing “The Doctors”.

@ Annie— I like Dr Joy Browne too– gotta love a gal who does the big phlegmy inhale into her mike before answering a question.

“Dr.” Phil is one of the few celebrities I really hate. He’s a smug, unqualified blow-hard, but because he’s on TV, (stupid) people take his word as gospel. Seriously: life-changing therapy does not happen on TV. Real doctors who can actually help people with serious problems don’t have TV shows: they have offices and and believe in things like privacy and confidentiality. This jerk profits off his poor, screwed-up “guests” and really seems to enjoy it. HATE.

I preferred Love Line to learn life lessons, and they took bets on what happened to the caller in their past. So wrong and so great.

I remember the day that I learned to hate Dr. Phil. He had on a guest who had made a lot of money selling videos through the mail and online where he would pay homeless people $25 to do degrading or harmful acts. One that they showed was of him going up to a homeless guy with a pair of pliers and $25, and asked the guy to pull out one of his front teeth, which he did.

I don’t hate Dr. Phil for having him on, but for acting all outraged as if he had no idea beforehand what he was going to see. He got all self-righteous and disgusted, and called his security to haul the guy off his stage, Jerry Spring style, to a wildly cheering audience. The guy called out, as he was being dragged off, that Dr. Phil’s whole show was about exploiting vulnerable people for fame and profit. He was right, and I’m sure Dr. Phil had planned to have him expelled before the show even started.

One of my friends recently was talking about watching his show and said that, while he can be a horse’s ass (ya think?!), he’s usually right on with his advice. I try not to get too wound up and strident when someone is talking about things relatively unimportant, but not this time. I flat out said “He’s a hack.” she continued to make the case *for* him, and I just couldn’t stop myself. “He’s a hack who couldn’t handle working with actual clients (he basically didn’t want to deal with {paraphrasing} ‘whiny people’). He’s a hack who speaks in soundbites.” As in “how’s that workin’ fer yew”, “do yew want to be right or do yew want to be happy”, “you just want to be left alone with your disease”. Blech. I kinda liked him once a week on Oprah, but I’m way over it.

I will cut back on bread, beer, wine or soda if I could just see another Alexandra update.

    Alexandra will be pregnant again

The Mom will need more plastic surgery, because if she looked better her daughter wouldn’t be such a slut and her husband would never quit groveling for a past indiscretion

The sister who was also got knocked up out of wedlock and on drugs, but she never shot up so that makes her a bunch better than her sister, will still have her nose in the air because she is better than the rest of her fucked up family.

The Dad will continue to pay for his past mistake literally. Because Dr. Phil in his infinate wisdom has shown this vain woman that they key to being happy is to modify your appearence and this will make your insides feel good too! I betcha Dad has paid for upkeep after Phil let the botox out of the box.

    I never watch this show.

    ;) Robin

Gotta wonder what kind of contract this family signed. Their original appearance was in 2005. Why in hell do they keep coming back for Dr. Phil’s help, when it doesn’t seem like any of his advice is working? Or course, their follow through on said advice may well be lacking but seriously? Maybe airing the family’s problems on national television is not the best way to solve your troubled adolescents’ downward spiral. Who’d have thought?

I did a google search and there are folks saying that Katherine’s baby daddy is married to someone else.

    @wcsdancer,

Really? I know I am supposed to feel bad for the kid and all, but..hahahahahaha.

That chick spent so much time putting folks in their place and wasted so much energy to try to prove how she is so above what she considers the scumbags in her family, she may as well have had “I am trying really hard to make up shit about them so you will exploit and dig up shit on them instead of me”, written on her forehead.

I watched most of the very first segment on this family. At the time I felt really bad for Katherine, because she seemed completely eclipsed and all of the parents’ attention was focused on Alexandra’s pregnancy, and Marty’s cheating. She was understandably upset that her good behavior wasn’t even recognized. When the family showed up for the update segment with Alexandra being pregnant *again*, Katherine being ignored *again*, I stopped watching. I wasn’t aware that Katherine had a baby until reading here and went on an internet search. Here’s a forum post I found (I have no idea how accurate it is). http://www.topix.com/forum/tv/dr-phil/TQUKMVA6U341SSI57

Robin, I can understand your schadenfreude (and I didn’t see her smug attitude), but Katherine’s only chance would have been to try to emancipate herself way back then and get away from those people.
