As you may or may not know, they’ve pulled the Katy Perry music video with Elmo from broadcasting on PBS because it was too boobalicious. So in light of this big news, Sesame Street‘s executive producer, Carol-Lynn Parente went on Good Morning America to talk about the Katy Perry boob-gate scandal.

Accompanying Carol-Lynn was Elmo and Grover, and they both defended Katy Perry’s honor. Elmo said “Elmo loves Miss Katy…We had a good time. So we’ll have another play date.” Then, Grover chimed in and said, “How do you like my new outfit, huh? It is not too revealing, is it?”

I kind of love that Sesame Street responded the way they did. They made fun of themselves, didn’t make a big deal out of it, and now, it’s all good.

Here’s the GMA interview from earlier this morning:

Here is the big video that’s causing so much controversy:

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

It’s not like children haven’t before seen cleavage or boobs, for that matter. She’s basically wearing a ballerina outfit and a vail; not nearly as offensive as Hannah Montana’s hillbilly ass pole dancing on a kids award show.

I told you all this was a bit much forpreschool.

I can see both sides to this. I dunno, she wears more than Tinkerbell, and many Disney princesses, so I really don’t have a problem with it.

It could be worse, could you imagine Gaga or Kesha instead of Katy? I’ve always thought of her as more cutsy and “clean-cut”, relatively speaking, but what do I know?

Besides, pre-schoolers aren’t too far removed from the “breast-feeding” stage not to know what “boobies” are. I’d like a parents input though….

I too applaud Sesame Streets reaction to the whole thing. I hope they reshoot it with the “appropriate” attire. She’s a cutie pie and it all seems in good fun.

As the mother of a 5 and a 2 year-old, I can honestly tell you they couldn’t be less interested in boobs. My 5 year-old LOVES that song, (with the real lyrics mind you) and they dance hysterically if they ever hear it on the radio. Now I’ll make SURE to cue it up on YouTube because the yahoos at PBS deem it inappropriate.

My kids see worse at the grocery store. Get a grip.

Well my children are all well into double digits now, but I agree with k37744 – boobs are not high on the list of things that preschoolers pay attention too.

Honestly, do the parents who complained not allow their children to watch ice skating, ballet or circus performers? Do they not go to the swimming pool? Or to the mall? Her outfit was tame compared to some of the things you see at those places.

A whole lot of fuss about nothing, though Sesame Street did handle it well and I also hope that Miss Katy gets asked back for a re-shoot – fun song with either lyrics.

(I defy anyone to not have their heart melt when they see that pic of Maddox).

In the dark, snarky place in my head my theory is this: mousy, lonely housewives don’t want some bouncy, cute little trollop with a nice rack on their tv during the one genre that shouldn’t give you a complex. Just thinkin out loud here. Give Katy a break. She’ll probably turn into a mass-producing Russell Brand baby machine soon, but she’ll have the above video to show her kids and reminisce. It happens to the best of us.

I have two boys (ages 4 and 1) and my first thought after looking at her outfit was, “So what’s the big deal?” My one year old wouldn’t even notice her next to Elmo, and aside from mine, the only other boobs my 4 year old son has ever commented on were The Little Mermaids.
