Another one bites the dust…NBC canceled Free Agents. They went up in ratings last night, but it just wasn’t good enough…they couldn’t pull in the numbers. Sad because I finally watched, and it wasn’t as terrible as I thought it’d be. It definitely needed work, but I could see how it could have found it’s stride. Oh well…

Hank Azaria thanked NBC on twitter for giving the show a shot:

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

does anyone else just think NBC is a god-awful network? seriously, this may be the most poorly run entity in america.

@baymenxpac Your sign in is so scary I hate to half agree with you. At first I thought you meant NBC was God awful for the shows they put out but I think? you meant the great shows they cancel? They do cancel alot of stuff that has massive potential quite quickly. Is that what you meant?

@emilyhartly sorry about the sign in. a seventh grade screen name that has now stuck as a default internet handle 15 years later (it’s not that scary. just the baseball organization i play/coach for and my favorite wrestler back in the day.)

honestly, i’m still angry at NBC over studio 60 on the sunset strip. and i’m not saying the playboy club or free agents were fantastic, but it seems like canceling a show before it even had a chance to build an audience (or holding it responsible for underperforming in a timeslot that is the equivalent of death: monday at 10) is pretty ludicrous.

truly, has NBC brought us anything worthwhile in scripted drama since the first season of heroes? or before that, the west wing? they don’t develop, they don’t market and they don’t put anything in the proper forum to succeed. terrible.

    end rant :)

I agree, Baymen–not sure I understood what was scary about your name either, by the way.

The first Free Agents episode aired at 10:30 on a random night. That was such a great episode, too. I LOLed throughout the series premiere. Oh well. For some crazy reason, Up All Night is sticking around. Wanted to like that one, but even Maya can’t save it.

@baymenxpac. OK, hillariously innocent handle. I am sometimes leary of siding with someone that has a name that makes no sense to ME. I don’t know sports. Love your insights.

@danielle. It just sounded like some with tinfoil on their head – xpac can be seen a few different ways and I was wrong calm down.

The only good thing NBC has going for it right now is Community, Parks & Recreation and 30 Rock. I used to include The Office in that list but right now it’s in a coma and James Spader is the life support.

See-Jay, I was gonna type the same thing! I love Community and Parks and 30 Rock. I haven’t watched The Office in a while because it got a little stale. But NBC has these great shows so I never considered it to be such a pathetic network. Especially since they own Bravo and profit from the success of the Housewives.

But I guess in numbers, Community may not do as well when it is pitted against The X Factor. And that may cost ad dollars (no Pespi deal) and lead to its cancellation. (I hope not!)

times have seriously changed. How long was Seinfeld on air before it became a ratings goldmine…years!

I also loved Studio 60 and I agree that they are not keeping shows on long enough to give them a chance. Early episodes of all the great shows aren’t as good as they get later on (the earliest episodes of friends, Joey is a joke and Monica is too severe). Early Sienfield episodes were so boring.

Is Up All Night NBC? The commercials for it looked so funny, but I could barely get through the first episode and I didn’t laugh once. Right now I am liking CBS’s Monday line up best, which is a shame because FOX used to be my favorite, but just feels tired lately.

So “Up All Night” does suck? I was afraid to watch it because the ads made it look a little … desperate for laughs? I love GOB but he seems to have trouble holding his own as a lead. So does Christina Applegate, come to think of it.
