Idol: Don’t Blame Us If They Suck

lee-dewyze2Small hands, low record sales

American Idol producers claim no responsibility for their winners’ poor album sales. Executive Producer of Idol, Ken Warwick said, “The audience votes – there’s nothing we can do.” That’s such a cop-out answer, but it’s true in a sense. The truth is that they haven’t plucked the best talent, and when they do–they can’t do anything about it because the voting system is flawed. You have a million tweens voting for whoever they think is cute. Like what’s his face–Tim Urban. How the hell did that guy make it to the Top 10? I had lost ALL hope for Idol when that happened…I mean ALL hope. I’d never experienced such anger watching television as I did during that season of Idol. Here’s hoping that this upcoming season will give us something to get excited about.

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

I know how you feel. I feel pretty much the same way anytime anyone takes Paira Salines seriously. She’s the Tim Urban of politics.

Last season’s AI was lackluster; after the clusterfuck that was Glambert losing Season 7 and last season’s talent pool being weak and the ratings dropping, no one wanted LD’s album, especially since Bowesox was the breakout star. The only thing that will restore this show would be an increase in talent. Although, I think the change in judges will dominate.

If they’re serious about picking someone who has talent, they need to have the judges give scores that count a certain percentage toward the contestants’ scores, like on Dancing with the Stars. I mean, yeah, Bristol Palin made the top two, but she didn’t win! On AI, she would have WON.

Of course the judges they have now probably wouldn’t do much better than the viewers.

Lee DeWyze is, I think, the worst Idol winner EVER. And I’m counting Ruben…

Large swaths of America have already stated pretty clearly that they are not at all serious about picking people with talent.

Really? You mean to tell me you didn’t lose all hope for Idol back in Season 1 when Nikki McKibben made it as far as she did? Every season has one or two such characters, and as far as they go, Tim Urban is one of the least bad. And so is Sanjaya, before you jump on him. Carmen Rasmusen, Josh Gracin, and Scott Savol are all way worse.

As for the idol execs not taking responsibility for the idols’ failures, they’re part right and part wrong. It is we after all (collectively as America) who decide the winner, so if fantards want to vote in droves for Lee and then not buy his CD, that’s there own damn fault. But the producers could, you know, actually put talented people through to the voting rounds. They have full control over who gets to see the judges during the auditions. And they could also, you know, give two shits about marketing the Idol upon winning. But as we all know (or at least should know), Idol isn’t about finding a new recording artist, it’s about $$$$$$$$.

@ Georgiababe, I still think Taylor Hicks is by far the worst Idol winner ever in the history of the show. Lee DeWyze is simply too similar to Kris Allen. I think, with the upcoming season, a new female winner will be crowned.

    My AI winner Power Rankings:
    1) Kelly Clarkson
    2) Carrie Underwood
    3) Fantasia
    4) Jordin Sparks
    5) Ruben Studdard
    6) Kris Allen
    7) Lee DeWyze
    8) Taylor Hicks

@ derek: please don’t shoot me for saying this, but …

I like Taylor Hicks. BUT I’d seen Taylor Hicks perform before he went onto American Idol (hello Florabama Lounge and Package) and I cheered him on when he was on the show. Taylor isn’t glam, he’s not commercial, he’s not a product. He is just a hardworking guy who put in his time and hard work on the small town circuit and just wanted to try to reach a bigger audience. Taylor actually winning American Idol over Catherine McFlatstagepresence was like a thumbs up for honest good ol’ boys with a real passion for music to me.

Yeah, he’s an anomaly among the usual AI contestants, but I hope that makes some sense to you. I don’t think he belongs with the rest, but he is talented in his own right. Just more for the blues/folk crowd.

@ Elmstreet, TH just isn’t my cup of tea and I just felt that McPhee was more suited to win that season than he was. I also was a huge Elliott Yamin fan, so I was more resentful of him by that point. He’s definitely a talent, but he didn’t seem well-suited to be on Idol, since he wasn’t trying to be a pop star.
