American Idol hit an all time low in finale ratings. Only 21.5 million viewers watched last night’s finale, bringing it down 32% from last season’s finale. This marks the beginning of the downfall. I don’t think Fox will take Idol off the air in the next few years, but it’s becoming just another TV show rather than a main event. Sad days. I’m curious as to how The X Factor’s going to premiere with Brit on board.

Check out a brief history of Idol finale ratings (from Deadline):

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

As you can see,the year Clay “lost” was the biggest year ever. I record the episodes and then skip through the show by 5 minute increments. Every week it’s the same old joke and it never gets old,to me at least. Seacrest says,” we had an astounding 90,000,000 votes last night ladies and gentlemen.” And I look to my husband and say,” that’s 23 kids with fast thumbs-right?”
It just never gets old. OK-it’s more like 150,000,but seriously, who is he kidding? If it was one set of braces per vote, the outcome would be different-and nothing to brag about.

Never watched it, never will. If I want to listen to karaoke I’ll just go to a bar downtown and get drunk while doing it.

Okay, I watched it. That is, DVR’d it (so I could fast forward through the boring and/or awful parts). I have a question – Seacrest kept saying that AI set a new voting record for any show – 132 million votes. Uh, wow. So, maybe there were 132 girls that voted a million times each? That’s the only way I can explain the low ratings AND the record setting votes occurring simultaneously.
