Idol has lowered it’s audition age to 15-years-old. American Idol‘s executive producer, Cecile Frot-Coutaz said, ”A lot of young, talented people are now seeking careers and representation before they turn 16…Lowering the age limit allows us to tap into this talent pool.”
I’m all for discovering new talent, and making the show better, but this will officially flood the voting pool with tweens. The system in place is already bad enough where people like Tim Urban can stay on, and make the Top 10. If they open it up any younger, they might as well be doing the talent portion of a pageant show.
I know it’s not that big of a deal, and they’re only lowering the competing age by one year, but that one year is a big maturing year. It’s the year before you can drive…once kids have freedom to get behind the wheel by themselves they’re on their way to adulthood. I don’t think they should lower the age limit.
And for sh*ts and giggles, lets just say a 15-year-old wins the competition, how the HELL are they going to get behind the wheel of their new Ford Fiesta?
I can see the Idol Ford commercial now:
We see the 15-year-old driving his Ford, happy as can be…then we see the camera pan to the passenger side–and there sits one of his/her parent, guardian, or adult 25 years of age or older, who has a valid California driver’s license. Wah Wah Wah.
