idol season 10

Well the season premiere of Idol came and went, and it wasn’t as eventful as I thought it’d be. I guess I don’t know what I was expecting…a mariachi band coming out of J.Lo’s butt would have been nice, or even fireworks…BUT we didn’t get that. It was JUST another audition episode…

I have to say, I was a little thrown off by Steven Tyler’s turrets screams. The dude would break out into scream in the beginning of the show like he was asking for a glass of water. Do you think we’ll be hearing those all season? And is that a promise?

As I digress…I can’t really judge the singers or the judges by the audition episodes, so my REAL opinion is going to have to wait until Hollywood week. But for now, they were fine (the singers and the judges). In fact, I was pleasantly surprised at J.Lo’s people skills. I kind of miss Simon (just a smidgen), but everytime I say something about the judges, I have to remind myself that it’s a singing competition!!

Thoughts??

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

I liked it, even Steven’s shrieking because he does that all the time. But he knows music. I was never the biggest fan of Simon’s because he just kept repeating the same insults. After six seasons I couldn’t handle him anymore.

But Jennifer is like a lucid and coherent Paula, Steven is Simon if Simon knew dick about performing music and didn’t pick favorites based on which of the barely legal women he thought most guys would want to bang and who could sing “Unchained Melody. Well, maybe the barely legal, and ocassionally not yet legal, women part.

But what I liked most about Steven is that he occasionally got really excited and seems to be leading the charge in getting the judges more involved in the individual auditions. He brought out the musicality and musicianship in that first guy because you could see him start singing on Tyler’s beat and his voice got stronger.

If Steven Tyler doesn’t succeed on AI, he’s setting himself up as the perfect Mary Murphy replacement on SYTYCD.

I really enjoyed Steven Tyler & the judges in general, last night. There wasn’t as much tomfoolery amidst the judges as there used to be.

I actually thought that Steven and Jennifer were vast improvements over the past judging panels. I did not miss Simon at all. There was never any doubt in my mind that I wouldn’t miss Kara. Now if only they could get rid of Randy…

Yeah there are two ways to look at this. One is to try and objectively rate how good the new judges are; the other is to ask yourself if they’re good, or if they’re just better than the suckfest that finally exited stage left. Simon was so full of disdain no one wanted to watch him. Ellen was milquetoast and Kara was plain bad.

I personally didn’t care for Tyler (but I knew I wouldn’t). J-Lo is taking it all too seriously. Randy seems bewildered and a mess to me. I’m with truthsquad: stick a fork in it.

I love it! Saw Aerosmith from the third row once and Steven Tyler is an amazing showman. Didn’t think I would like Jennifer Lopez much but I actually do, and clearly she and Stephen are far more relevant to today’s contestants than any of the previous judges ever were to contestants in previous years. People only know Randy because of Idol, which is a shame. He’s got more street cred than Simon or Paula ever had in their pinkies.
