royal wedding

I wasn’t able to stay up for the wedding, rather wake up for it this morning, but I did DVR it, and I watched all the highlights. Did you guys watch it? Didn’t it seem straight out of a story book? It was truly beautiful. I admit that I was over all the hype these past few weeks, but now that all is said and done, it was pretty awesome to see.

In case you missed it, here are the cliff notes:

Walking down the aisle:

The Vows:

Buckingham Palace or Bust:

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

Absolutely stunning bride in a gorgeous dress. I even loved the bouquet.

I hope William’s marriage is everything that his mother’s was not.

Loved, loved, loved her dress. I can only hope that her dress is as influential as Diana’s was.
@cattyfan – I also hope that their marriage is everything Diana and Charle’s wasn’t. The fact that they have lived together for so long certainly bodes well for them.

A question for any Brittish gasmi….what is with the womens fashion at the church? My god, was that some serious fug on display by many of the female guests, especially if they were (related to) royalty. Case in point – the Princesses of York.

The ceremony was lovely and their love was clear to see. I hope and pray that their future lives are filled with love and happiness. (I am a real sap when it comes to this!)

It seemed like William, Harry, and Kate were kind of annoyed that their was a big deal made out of it. It made them seem much nice and gained a point in my book.

I am ashamed of myself because I cried at a wedding of people that I don’t know and since I don’t live in Britain, don’t really see the big fuss is. I am such a sap for weddings. I do wish them all the best and nothing but happiness.

I realized I never heard either one talk before but William has such a cute accent. You can tell he is British but it isn’t an overbearing accent. It was refreshing.

Thank you for posting Nads! I couldn’t swallow my pride to look it up on youtube this afternoon and was glad you did the work. You rock. ;)

I was over this before it began but once the pictures started rolling in I raced home from work and caught up on all the highlights. It was truly a stunning affair and I wish them all the best. Her dress, her sister, it all was just beautiful and a nice bright spot in the never ending dismal news coverage.

I thought her dress was just stunning, it reminded me of Grace Kelly. And I also really like how close William and Harry seem to be, it’s so sweet. The whole thing was gorgeous and I wish them so much happiness. I am sure that their marriage will be better than Charles and Diana’s, the monarchy is so much less stiff and formal now (as opposed to 30 years ago) and they have been together for so long, she’s had a chance to really see what the press are like and decide if she can hack it, whereas Diana was kind of thrust into it. Not to mention that it didn’t appear that Charles ever really loved her…

I’ve always liked Harry more than William (I’m a sucker for the bad boys) so now I’m intrigued to see what’s going to happen with him. I don’t think there’s really any pressure on him to get married anytime soon, since he’s the “spare”. I think the pressure is more likely to be on William and Kate to have children now, produce the next true “heir and a spare” and Harry will be free to do whatever hahaha.

I stayed up to watch it this morning. My gf came over late last night and we put on royal blue snuggies (snuggie calls the color royal blue and they make alot of $ so they should know) It wasn’t cold or anything, we just wanted to be fashionable.

We started drinking at about 3am. YAYY! We had bloody Mary’s in honor of this lady; http://womenshistory.about.com/cs/tudor/p/p_mary_i_tudor.htm

I saw a movie about her ( I love movies from this time period) but best of all drinking bloody mary’s in the morning is kinda normal isn’t it? I mean, if i woke up and invited my friend over to drink shots of tequilla at 3 am that would be terrible! But as long as we drink almost a whole bottle of vodka, mix it with tomatoe juice, and eat celery with it, we won’t look like lushes!

I laughed til there were tears in my eyes when the people were singing and there were no two people singing the same song! Did somebody punk them and give them all different programs? The words are there people! Hy-fucking-sterical.

I had no words for the hats. I was speachless. So was my friend. So instead of talking, we started grabbing objects from around the house and putting them on our heads. At one point, my friend grabbed a plate and balanced it on her head then I put a small vase on top of it. It was stunning, I tell Ya!

I was surprised he didn’t watch her walk down the aisle. But, hey not my beeswax. I will tell you that I am officially not a fan of Barbara Walters. Ever again. That bitch could not stop bringing up tabloid shit. I was bouncing around after the cerimony and for some reason ABC was giving me the best pic. But each time I tuned in to that station hoping that she wasn’t talking, she was talking trash. She needed to save that stuff for the view.

    Cheers! Robin

I am not sure she even needs anything tucked away in her nether regions. I think any man would be petrified if they saw that headgear coming towards THIER nether regions.

I call it headgear now. I mean, c’mon that stuff they had on their heads were not hats. I waited with baited breath to see someone with a small pony on their head, or a goldfish bowl, or the Lazy Susan. I rocked the lazy Susan and my gf put one of those lovely bird clocks on her head, tied it on and every hr it would chirp! So, I think she had the best hat while watching the nuptuals :-)

The hats looked like fashion attempts from Project Runway.

Many of the more fashion forward hats were from designer Philip Tracy. He was also featured on last season’s Project Runway when the designers had to create a look to accompany one of his hats. He’s a pretty big deal and many people clamor to wear hit hats, even at the risk of looking a bit odd.

Yes, the hats were outlandish but I still think they ain’t got nothing on a Southern Baptist woman of color on Easter Sunday. Now, those ladies, can wear a hat!

Just a note – William didn’t watch her walk down the aisle because it’s tradition (not sure if it’s all Anglican weddings or just the royals) for him to keep his back to her until she reaches the altar. Harry snuck a peek though and I think William did too at one point.

Georgiababe, Oh ok, I didn’t know that. I guess I am just used to the groom looking at the bride as she comes down the aisle. I did notice Harry taking a look, but Will was steadfast in not looking. So what you said makes alot of sense.

Angela, No, I am a southern gal. But I am obsessed by the history of the throne for some reason. Always have been. I drink in any book or movie about them. They are much like a soap opera! Henry, the Bolyn girls, Catherine of Arganon, ( she made it out alive), Queen Elisabeth 1, she was in love with Sir Walter Raleigh but he impregnated someone else and married her. She died after never being married or bearing children. She called herself “The virgin Queen”. She was a tough broad. The story’s about her and her dealings during the Spanish Armada are amazing. Sorry to go on, as I said, I love the period and could go on and on about it. I am just as fanatic about American history, too. But, lately there is too fine of a line here right now. So, I will bow to our Queens here and talk about past Queens! :-)

Kate’s dress was everything it should have been….modern, elegant, sexy, and not a meringue in sight! Pippa’s dress was just stunning. Bravo to Ms. Burton and the House of McQueen!

@Robin, I watched on BBC America. The last thing I wanted to hear was a bunch of chatty, catty, American broadcasters. BBC did an amazing job.

Robin, I’m reading World Without End, (by Ken Follett) which takes place in 14th century England during the reign of Edward III, and is set amongst squires, monks, bishops, priors, knights, lords, and commoners alike. It’s is set two centuries after Pillars of the Earth (best book ever!!) but the books needn’t be read in order.

These books are so amazing and are so historically accurate that it’s like getting a history lesson from a story woven with romance, betrayal, suspense, and intrigue. Recommended!

@Mari, For some reason my DTV reception wasn’t great on 3 channels and BBC America was one of them. I am still wondering about that. I have never seen a difference in picture quality before.

I agree with you about the catty stuff coming out of the mouth’s of the “reporter’s” representing our country. Babs had the nerve to allude to indescretions conerning Will’s parent’s. On his wedding day.. What a C word.

    I think it was beautiful.

When I mentioned bowing to our Queen’s. This is what I meant. God Save Our Queens!

I’m not so into the Kings/Queens as I am the atmosphere of the periods. My favorite is 19th century anything. London (the carriages, Jack the Ripper, etc.), NYC (Gramercy park, oyster carts, Bowery boys, etc.), San Francisco (the motherlode, outlaws, gold rush).

World Without End takes place in the 14th century and in addition to the royal hierarchy, I am learning about how bridges were built during this period, what jobs were available, how women are regarded by men/what jobs they cannot hold, foods the poor ate, clothes the rich wore, etc. Exciting stuff!
So far, Edward III hasn’t made an appearance, they only mention him by name when they speak of his mom, Queen Isabella, who had an affair with a man named Mortimer, a man who then had Isabella’s husband -King Edward II- ousted from the throne (on charges of sodomy and the like). King Edward II was later murdered. Queen Isabella gave her 14 yr son, Edward III, the throne and he later ousted her lover Mortimer in a coup and is currently running the country.

But truthfully speaking, a lot of drama is happening amongst the monks. Who knew the most pious could also be the most deceitful and ambitious?

Well a vow of celibacy and full, lifetime commitment to the church makes one a contender, that’s for sure. Especially when weighed against the other characters who fornicate, drink ale, and at times, even work on Sundays. But then again, one has to read the book to see where the monks measure up against everyone else. Except the nuns, of course. They appear to be above reproach. For now. ;)

My Dad was an alter boy..Grandparents were big time Catholics..

Anyway, I went to my Grandparents house for the weekend and went to church with them. My Mom always gave me money when me and my sis went anywhere. Mom asked if we spent our money. I said yes, we put it in the “poor box” at church. Mom said ” Those Catholics already have enough money! LOL

    Fond Memory..

Ha! Perhaps they do. During the 14th century, it seems the power was given to the church and the monks/priory owned most of the land(charging rents), the harvest(selling produce), and access to the bridge (charging tolls). But the monks said they were not interested in money, and most of them weren’t. But of course, there’s always one.. one who sees the commercial enterprise in building a bigger bridge (the last collapsed, killing many) and ensuring more traffic and more presence/income during market days. Is he looking out for the interest of his people..or only himself?

I’m only 400 pages in, so time will tell. Of course, it’s historical fiction so much of the story is created, but it makes for an interesting read. One thing is for sure.. defying the church, especially as a women, could get you hanged for heresy. Defying the lusty advances of a squire..could get you much worse. Who’s thankful that they were born centuries later? I know Kate Middleton is..she didn’t even have to be a virgin, unlike Princess Diana, who was wed only 30 years earlier. My, have times changed..for the better. :)

sarcasatire, How far into World Without End are you? It’s a fabulous book but nothing can compare to Pillars in my opinion. Your “best book ever” put a huge grin on my face because I feel exactly the same way about that book. LOVE IT. Did you by any chance watch the Starz mini series?

I think the thing to remember about the monks during those times was that they often were not monks by choice. Many of them were put into the church by their families for financial or political reasons so piety wouldn’t necessarily even be present (they can’t all be Phillip, right?).

On another note (one related to the subject of the post), I think Kate and William’s story and wedding was a refreshing break from all the awful news we hear about all the time. It’s nice to actually be able to have the news on and not have to switch it off when my six year old walks into the room. I wish them all the happiness in the world.

@Pottymouth, I’m so glad to hear someone else say Pillars of the Earth is best book EVAH! I’m about 500+ pages into World Without End..it’s really good, I just can’t wait for some folks to get their comeuppance! But I’m going to savor the next 500 pages because I know I’m going to be bummed when it all ends! (Although, my mom said the ended made her want to reread Pillars because they made references to plotlines long forgotten. I’m looking forward to watching the mini-series on Netflix. Did they do it justice?)
