If you tuned into The Simpsons last night you were in for a treat. Banksy, street artist/filmmaker, directed the opening credits. I loved them but I am a Banksy fan in general. What are your thoughts? Awesome? Underwhelming?

… seriously? I can’t see the clip anymore, but I have to say that I am extremely disappointed that Banksy would contribute to the Simpsons. guh.

@betty lane: The Simpsons isn’t an “ugh” show and he didn’t really “contribute.” It was more of a “depress the audience” kind of thing. It was brilliant and I would say don’t discard just based on the fact that it’s a Sunday night cartoon. Watch the title if you can and then pass judgement. What’s more “ugh” is that you would immediately write something off without seeing it.

I saw it more as a publicity stunt and an attention grab where all three entities (Banksy, The Simpsons and Fox) knew they’d create a tempest in a teapot and get to pat themselves on the back for how “edgy” and “dark” they are, and how they’re making these deeply meaningful social statements, and really, Fox and “The Simpsons” really still are relevant, look, because Banksy that elusive, and yet stinking rich “street” artist, storyboarded our cold open.

And if you need to know just how venal the clip really is and how everyone involved was in on the joke? It’s available on Hulu.
