Jamie Oliver’s Cookbook: Not So Healthy

Jamie Oliver, the man that’s supposed to revolutionize the way we eat and help us be healthy has one of the unhealthiest cookbooks of 2011. A US physicians’ group criticized his cookbook mainly for his Meatball Sandwich recipe–it supposedly has more fat than a Big Mac, double the calories, cholesterol, sodium, and saturated fat. I wonder if he’s trying to change genres as a chef? Kind of like when a comedic actor tries to play a dramatic role in a movie–it’s just weird. Stick to what works for you, and leave it! Don’t pull a Jim Carrey on us, Jamie!

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

So its just the one recipe? If so, they should get off his back! I like Jaime. Here in England, I get his magazine and it has great recipes and meal ideas. So Dr. No1curr can go suck it! :D

i agree snootchy, i love jaime! his thing isn’t so much low fat as it is whole foods and home cooked foods. he’s against quick cheap foods with fillers that have been processed. plus like you said, they’re criticizing just the one recipe? at least it’s a nice homemade meatball sandwich and not some partially frozen fast food crap.

I like him too–just didn’t know what the deal was. i went digging around to see if other articles cited other recipes for being fatty–and it seems as though everyone used the meatball example…there could be more, but out of the 3 articles that i read they zeroed in on the meatballs. i wonder if this physicians group is like the PTC where they criticize wherever they can.

I also read that the meatballs can serve more than one person–so it’s all a matter of opinion.

i’d be curious to see if anything else comes up.

I’ve also heard criticism that his “Bacon-wrapped Lard” recipe was too high-fat/high-calorie. His response: “It has a sprig of parsley. What the hell do you want?”

(It isn’t like the book is titled “low-fat meals”. People will bitch about anything.)

i getcha nads, it’s crazy. i’m surprised there hasn’t been previous uproar from the ptc about the reckless use of the word “meatballs” and how it can be misconstrued.

p.s. jimbob, i find that parsley really sets off the lard.

In my (admittedly twisted) fantasy world, Jamie and Nigella will do a cooking show together. They will both be totally naked, Jamie will create magnificent food sculptures using bacon, Crisco and white sugar, and Nigella will stir the batter with her boobs. How’s that for healthy?
