While we do love the snark here at TVGasm we will put it aside for this post. Today the beloved filmmaker John Hughes passed away today in Manhattan where he suffered a heart attack. Hughes leaves a giant imprint on American Cinema with such hits as Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Planes Trains and Automobiles, Vacation, Christmas Vacation, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Weird Science, Mr. Mom, She’s Having a Baby, Home Alone, The Great Outdoors…trust me we could go on and on.

What is your favorite John Hughes movie?

My favorite movie of his is 1)Some Kind of Wonderful. I remember the night I saw that movie with my dad & sister. My sister and I went went out of town with our dad and one night he took us to the movies and this is what we saw. He calls it Some Kind of Stupid. I think it was just the night I really enjoyed with my family and therefore the movie is included in what I loved about it. 2. Pretty in Pink–who doesn’t love Duckey & his shoes ;-) 3. Sixteen Candle

I am, and probably always will be, a sucker for The Breakfast Club. It came out when I was the same age as the characters…and of course I could see a little of myself in them (both good and bad.)

My husband is a Ferris Bueller fan.

May John Hughes rest in peace.

Having grown up in the same surroundings and lived the life of the Duck Man, I think “Pretty In Pink” will always be one of my favorites…. with “The Breakfast Club” running a close second.

    love, J-Mo :)

I loved them all too, but Planes, Trains and Automobiles has become a Thanksgiving staple.

My sister and I watch it every year together and laugh until we cry.

    RIP Mr. Hughes and thanks.

Count me in as loving them all also. I’ve always had a fondness for Sixteen Candles (Long Duck Dong!) but The Breakfast Club is a very close second.

Now I want to go and watch them all again.

Oh, man! This is awful news. :(

I’ve actually seen every movie on that list, and they’re ALL great, but Sixteen Candles has always been one of my favorite movies. It’s one of those movies that you can watch over and over again, know all the dialogue, and still crack up every time you see it.

    RIP.

I’m with you, here4beer. I absolutely love Sixteen Candles.

“The Donger need food” is my quote of choice when I’m hungry.

Oh, Pretty in Pink without a doubt. However, like many of the other posters here I loved all his movies.

It’s amazing how many actors had parts in his movies.

    He will be missed.

OMG…Sixteen Candles. I was a tween when that movie came out and I was at my awkward stage. I dreamed of being swept away by Jake Ryan like Sam was. Sigh.

My sister and I still watch Christmas Vacation every year. It’s more popular with our family than a Christmas Story at Christmastime.

John Hughes wrote the movies that spoke directly to me I thank him for becoming part of my childhood, for those great memories and for Molly Ringwald. Rest In Peace, JH. You never knew how you played a part in my life.
