Jon Stewart is officially taking a break from The Daily Show this June to go direct a movie for eight weeks. John Oliver, his longtime correspondant will sit in Jon’s place. Pretty rad of Jon Stewart!!! And the upside is that there is not name change for the sub. It’ll be a Bewitched, Fresh Prince of Bel Air situation…same name, diff person.

On the movie note…Jon’s film is titled, Rosewater

From the press release:

“Rosewater,” a journalist’s story of his entry into the family business – government imprisonment and political incarceration in Iran – was written by Stewart and is based on the book, “Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity, and Survival” by Iranian journalist Maziar Bahari.  Bahari was falsely accused of being a spy and imprisoned by the Iranian government shortly after being interviewed by “Daily Show” correspondent Jason Jones in 2009 when he travelled to Iran to file a series of reports for the show (link to segment TK).  Bahari later appeared as a guest on “The Daily Show” in June 2011.

So political, but so cool!!! We’ll miss you, Jon!

Here’s the interview of Jon with Maziar back in 2011:

Part 2:

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

LOVE me some Daily Show. And it probably won’t change too much, right? Because it’ll probably be all the same writers?
But I don’t know about John Oliver being the sub. He’s hilarious, and I can listen to his accent all day, but I feel like they chose him because he has the biggest name outside of TDS. Lately, Al Madrigal has been bringing it. He has been, far and away, the funniest correspondent in recent months. But maybe that’s just my sense of humor. John Oliver’s humor reminds me too much of Stephen Colbert, and it’s starting to feel stale.
