I woke up to this terrible TMZ post this morning…Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo resigned from Sesame Street because a second accuser popped up claiming he slept with Kevin when he was 15. YIKES! I was iffy about the first accuser and thought he was trying to extort money (although the details were questionable on Kevin’s part), but now I know that Kevin Clash and his sexual habits are no bueno. I HATE hearing this news. I know Elmo will prevail, it just sucks that he has a little bit of drama surrounding him right now.

Sesame Workshop put out this statement, “Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding Kevin’s personal life has become a distraction that none of us want, and he has concluded that he can no longer be effective in his job and has resigned from Sesame Street. This is a sad day for Sesame Street.”

 Poor Elmo…

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

Bearing false witness is a crime. It is even on the top ten no-no list. Anyone ruining a man’s reputation, his life, by lying about him (or about a woman) should be severely punished. Fines, jail time, whatever it takes to make people responsible for what they say.

    So tragic.

You know, this all sounds so weird to me. I know, I shouldn’t give this guy a pass just b/c of Sesame Street, but the second accuser is suing for $5million. Wouldn’t you think he’d come forward with criminal charges first, and not the lawsuit?

It seems more opportunistic and like someone out for $$$$ anyway. Maybe it is true, and the guy is an opportunist, who knows. I also heard the first guy settled for $120,000.

The 2nd guy said the events occurred in 1993, I think. If that’s the case, I imagine the suit is barred by the statute of limitations period. A little shady to announce this almost 20 years after the fact.

Well, at least they’re not 10-year-olds. Although that didn’t destroy Michael Jackson’s career…so…

M.J. had an extra thirty million lying around to pay off the parents in one case. Joan Rivers’ joke: “Thirty million! I just wish I had a son.”

Whether or not the allegations are true, it couldn’t be any more obvious that the accusers are nothing but opportunists looking to make some cash. “Ugh” to this whole thing.

When I was in high school, a new teacher at the junior high was suspended after a girl claimed he’d molested her and a few other girls came forward with similar stories. Of course there was a serious, in-depth investigation, as there should be after allegations like that, which proved conclusively that it was all made up. The first girl was mad about a grade and the others had jumped on the bandwagon because teenage girls love to be the center of drama and attention. The teacher was cleared and got an apology, but was so upset and hurt by the whole incident that he left teaching entirely.

I don’t think the allegations against Mr. Clash are any more true than that. I hope there is an investigation so we can know the truth, but for the moment, I choose to believe he’s innocent. The fact that the new accuser is suing is suspect and also tacky as hell: I’d hope if someone had really been victimized like that, he’d be more interested in getting a predator away from children than making money from him. But no, neither of these accusers wanted Mr. Clash arrested or fired from Seasame Street, they just wanted money. That’s awful, whatever the truth of their claims.

Not to get preachy, but while I do believe there’s a very special level of hell reserved for people who abuse children, there’s also a level for people who make false rape/abuse claims and undermine the credibility of people who really have been hurt.

This whole thing reeks of greed.

If indeed he is guilty then yes, he should be punished. But I find it a little suspicious that this second accuser only came out of the woodwork now. Yes, it’s possible that he was scared/ashamed etc. to come forward and found the courage to do so after the first accusation, but the fact that he wants $$$ out of it seems very suspicious to me.

Here is the 2nd accuser’s press conference video. Not only does he not seem ashamed or scarred, he admits that they never had sex when he was underage!!

$5 million dollars for (alleged) kissing and a dry hump? Sign me up!

He says that he broke it off with Clash to “spare his feelings” because Clash liked him too much. Again, is he a victim? Then, guess what…he says he hooked back up with Clash when he was over 18 for a consensual sexual relationship.

This is not worth losing one’s job over!! I feel awful for Kevin..this new guy is a schemer. Anyone can accuse anyone else.

Sure, these guys are definitely looking to cash in on their relationship with Clash. But there’s no denying there was a relationship — the emails from him are clear enough proof that these ‘friendships’ went too far.

Of course, this was not at all the same as a student-teacher relationship, in which one person has clear authority over the other — and the teacher should definitely face criminal prosecution.

But regardless of the opportunism of this latest slimeball, Clash’s penchant for young boys is definitely a problem — certainly for someone with ready access to kids like he presumably had in his role as a puppeteer. Clash is a predator.

So, should he lose his job over this? Yes. He should have known the risk he was taking, if only for his reputation. He played with fire and got burnt.

Um, dating a sixteen year old boy is mutually exclusive to working with toddlers. Sorry, it’s not the same. Yes, sixteen is underage, but statutory rape and pedophilia are too different things and it’s tasteless (and erroneous) to imply that a man who liked teen boys would automatically start molesting young children. That’s quite a leap.

@SarClassy, so right about the difference between a teen and a toddler. And we all know that teens literally throw themselves at adults they fancy, making temptation hard to resist at times.

The problem here is that while the “consenting” partners were teens, Elmo is a toddler toy and of course the association is all too obvious.

I just hope that future voice-over jobs will soon be in the offing for this talented man.
