Nigel Lythgoe took to his twitter last night venting his frustration over Lee DeWyze not presenting the Idol trophy to Scotty. Nigel said:

nigel

And Lee fired back at Mr. Lythgoe by saying he was asked to present the trophy two minutes before they announced the winner. Lee tweeted, “I was not asked to be involved in the Finale. It wasn’t until about 2 minutes before they announced that Nigel had approached me and asked if he could “borrow” me for a second, I didnt feel a last second jump on stage was appropriate. It was Scotty’s moment.”

I get his point–it was last minute, and super sh*tty of Nigel to think of Lee as an after thought.  The dude wasn’t even invited to perform at the finale. But on the other side of the fence, after thought or not, what else does Lee have going on? He barely sold 40,000 albums during his debut week. I’m sure Nigel’s thinking: Lee needs AI, more than the AI needs him (which is true).

I completely side with Lee on this one. It was wrong of Nigel to ask him last minute, and then make a stink about it. I know to most of us, Lee has become a MAJOR after thought, but at least he got some press out of this dumb thing. Poor dude. I hope he doesn’t end up at the paint shop again.

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

Is Lee unfamiliar with the show? The previous winner has always awarded the trophy to the new person. Maybe he should have inquired if they wnated his services. After all, he might want the exposure.

Are the producers unfamiliar with the show, too? Wouldn’t they know how they normally stage a finale? Talent doesn’t usually schedule its own time on a live show, so if they didn’t think to invite him to participate in the actual show, that was their fault not his. I know he sucks, but they dropped the ball, not him.

Think maybe he thought he would get more press by not presenting the trophy then by actually presenting it and then disappearing into oblivion again?
